New Do Make Say Think album on October 19th! Can't wait!

"You, you're a history in rust" had some amazing bits on, mainly the collaborations with Akron Family. Have you seen them live? I caught them at the Social in Nottingham a few years back with Hood supporting, amazing show.

I recommend a disbanded DC area band called The Dismemberment Plan. Funny and good. Their lead vocalist went on to do a solo record that sorta kept up the funny stuff and is also worth checking out.

Definitely,"Emergency & I" is one of my favourite albums ever!

Very cool. It reminds me a tiny bit of Highway 420 by Do Make Say Think, although they're not all that similar. I think it's more the stalking-the-streets thing than anything else.

If anything, they're really just a copy of the fantastic "Bohren & Der Club of Gore" mixed with a little bit of Twin Peaks (for obvious reasons...)

Bohren is so, sooo good though.

Any Thumbs a fan of Chris Cornell? He is my favorite singer by far. I didn't like his latest album Scream at first, but I guess I've gotten used to it. It's more R&B or something than Rock. But I love his other solo albums and his previous bands. If anyone doesn't know who he is, he did the opening theme to Casino Royale (You Know My Name), which is my favorite song, and was previously the lead singer of Soundgarden and Audioslave.

Have you seen them live?

No, I never remember to check when people are playing, so I miss out on most stuff, sadly.

I caught them at the Social in Nottingham a few years back with Hood supporting, amazing show.

Oh, I have Cold House and have been thinking of getting more Hood for ages now. I mainly know them through their collaberation with the cLOUDDEAD guys.

Yeah, Highway 420 often reminds me of Twin Peaks. But when I think of Twin Peaks I generally am reminded of reading that Stars of the Lid are really into it:

(Actually, I think of Gasfarming, as that has a clip, but I couldn't find that on YouTube.)

Apologies if I've dumped this factoid on here already, but I was introduced to Trentemøller a while back by some friends and have yet to find a bad track by him. Just superb progressive, minimalist Electronica with the odd vocal thrown in.

He also appears to be pretty fucking good live, too:

Definitely check him out if you have even just a passing interest in acts like Portishead, Cinematic Orchestra or Royksopp.

as part of my 'welcome to the internet' orientation I made a youtube video via google image search. I had fun making it, though dealing with windows media maker is frustrating

I've heard that a few times before. I guess Modeselektor is yet another music act less obscure than I thought.

That's your most hurtful put-down yet, James.

Vicious... bastard... :\

There wasn't meant to be any value judgement in there. I quite like Modeselektor. A lot of my favourite bands are fairly obscure ... or are they?

I think I've downloaded (and bought :yep:) more music in a week in Paris than two months back home. So much new stuff... and a lot of it has inspired me to listen to old stuff. All the Warp20 buzz has got me listening to "Squarepusher" and "Aphex Twin" and old "Autechre". There's the new 5 Years of Hyperdub stuff out there now. New "Vitalic" album is pretty good. "VHS Head" EP is probably my favourite EP of the year so far. So good. Been enjoying "Intrusion" too, and "Cold Cave".

yadda yadda. All this new music almost makes me forget that I'm about to miss the entirety of happy Video game quarter. :(

I got The Dethalbum II on Saturday, which was 3 days before release. It helps to have friends who work in record stores :yep:

Anyhow, I might end up buying the vinyl tomorrow as well. The album is... how shall I put this....

FUCKING WIZARD!

It's a very worthy sequel to my favorite album of all time.

By the way, if you have no idea what I'm talking about () then do yourself a favor and look up "Dethklok" or "Metalocalypse."

Honestly, I like "Home Movies" better as a show, but Brendan Small is undeniably a very funny guy. Haven't listened to any of his Dethklok albums though.

Small does all the guitar work on the show, and he fucking shreds.

Yeah, Home Movies is hilarious and great, but Small really hit his stride with Metalocalypse. It's funny, epic, entertaining, and exciting.

Can't say enough good things about it so I'll shut up now.

I don't know if it's been mentioned yet ('cause I'm lazy, and would you look at the size of this thread?), but I'm rather partial to Electric Six. It's just rock for the sake of rock; good music with weird and mostly nonsensical lyrics. They show a bit of a funk influence as well.

They also did an awesome cover of Radio Ga Ga:

YES! I'm crazy about Electric Six! I hate when people write them off as some kind of one hit wonder or joke band! They have like 4-6 albums worth of great stuff now.

I'm going to see them again in November!

Here's a personal favorite of mine, even though the video is ridiculously atrocious:

FKHSBEoCg80

Another forum member, Rodi, is a fan too. I think he may have mentioned them much earlier in this thread.

I don't expect this to be news for anybody here, but I just discovered the Ice Cream Man song by Tom Waits (hadn't listen to his earliest stuff, like the Closing Time album before) and it might have the best first 30 seconds in a song ever.

If you like Tom Waits, I highly recommend Man Man, they're like six Tom Waits's all in one band, but crazier and more high-energy:

JaeCiy2pHmI

tUPEByiaT_E

Also, I actually paid money for an Electric Six show, but I walked out before they took the stage because I was only there to see the opening band (Bang Camaro, of Rock Band fame). Electric Six is way too disco for my tastes...

So Ben Konstantinovic released his ep today and it's awesome. If you like acoustic music you should like this. It's on Itunes and amazon apparently.

Anyone familiar with Milow? Yesterday I got his latest live album; "Maybe Next Year".
