Best co-op experiences on 360?

Recommended Posts

Spaff is visiting me in Holland next week so it would be fun to play something good together. Any recommendations you guys might have?

I enjoyed Assault Heroes and Guitar Hero II co-op. Haven't tried much else.

Gears has an OK co-op mode if you haven't tried it.

Diving over a wall to save your buddy in the middle of a firefight is pretty damn cool.

It's basically singleplayer mode with two players instead of one though, no special content.

GoW is especially good 2 vs 2. Co-op, but also deathmatch! Double win! If you can go online, it might be a possibility, but I don't know for sure.

And have fun with Spaff!

In some areas of the country, that sentence would get you some very funny looks :hah:

Gears of War co-op is worth the time. There are some neat bits where each player takes a separate path, like one snipes and the other runs around on the ground, or one enters a building while the other loops around to flank a turret.

I like Gears' local multiplayer, but any online system that involves trying to convince random people online to *allow* your friends to be on the same team deserves a :fart:.

Also, don't forget about Lego Star Wars II on the 360.

Crackdown would be my immediate suggestion. But one assumes you'll only have access to a single console, so that's out.

How about some of the shiny new old stuff off XBLA though? I would imagine Bomberman and Marathon would be pretty compelling stuff, if not all that glitzy.

For competitive stuff, Forza's very solid if either of you like racing games. Same for MotoGP, although I've yet to find anyone else that enjoys it. :\ And Fight Night: Round 3 is hilarious if you ask me.

Yeah, Bomberman Live would be great. You can play with local guests against people online. There aren't any real team modes, unfortunately, but you can do it unofficially.

I'm desperate to play Sousaphone Hero! Why hasn't it been released yet in Europe?

Because poor Europe gets the shaft everytime.

But Marek and Spaff will need at least 133 more people to pull off the multiplayer.

So we actually ended up playing Earth Defence Force 2017. The first nine levels were nice but we were getting a bit bored with it, so we put the game aside for a long time. Then at the end of the last day of Spaff's visit we did the next levels and suddenly there were new environments and enemies and it was actually really awesome again. We then regretted not having played more.

Damn, got to this thread too late. Fortunately it worked out as Earth Defense Force would have been my number one recommendation.

Some of the later levels where you have to use sentry guns against hoards of marauding spiders is amazing.

The thing is, on later levels and harder difficulties (struggling through Hardest now) 2 player is essential as the AI is useless in helping you.

Marek, have you fought the Mech-Dino or the four legged fortress, the first time you see those is awe inspiring.

Damn, how far in is the mecha-dino? I got past the fortress, but that shit sounds incredible.

No. ;(;(;(;( The latest enemy we saw were the amusingly named robots.

"This is just in: we have decided to call these robots 'Hectors'!"

Makes you wonder what kind of meetings they have at Earth Defence Force HQ....

Sorry to resurrect this 10 month old thread, but I wanted to comment on how much fun I had with Crackdown tonight. After a lot of convincing, I finally got a buddy to buy the game. I'd been extolling its virtues since it first came out, but it took him this long to pick the damn thing up. Lucky, really. It gives me a reason to play it all over again. My old save file got corrupted somehow, so we even both got to start at the same level of ability. He tried it for about 10 minutes and didn't care. Then I showed him some tricks the next time he came over. That night after he went home he played until four in the morning. I think I got him hooked.

So tonight when I get off work he calls and suggests we have a go at some co-op. A solid 3 hours later we've cleared out all of the Volk as a team. So fun. Little things like "I'll go and clear out the switches in the adjacent buildings, you take out Mikailov!" and setting up our strategies before making an assault on the boss made the game a whole new experience. I'll admit I've never really gotten into a game's multiplay before, but I can see myself getting completely reabsorbed into Crackdown (this would be my third time beating it if we finish) and loving it all the more. Anyone have other suggestions for online co-op we could assault after finishing this one?

And Marek, to address your point from the last post in this thread, it wasn't so much the name "Hectors" that bugged me as that they named the aliens the "Ravagers" and then tried to find out if they were peaceful...
