When is the US going to implode?

Recommended Posts

I'm curious, Marek; what do you predict would happen if the US were to break apart into peacefully cooperating countries? Would the NATO assume its role as peacekeepers all over the world (or rather; a military powerhouse that keeps zany people ruling little countries from doing zany things)? Or would they actually see an opening to stretch out their world domination muscles themselves and the world would erupt in chaos? I honestly wouldn't know.

Here's why I think it'd be a good idea if the mantle of power in the world were to shift away from the US and onto a relatively new and non-national body: the US has gathered so much badwill all over the world over the past 40-50 years that it will always meet with resistance on prejudice alone. If the US were to be marginalised and in its place come a more 'neutral' organ, the many fucking crazy 'enemies of the western world' would be marginalised as well. I propose that we make the Netherlands the new rulers of the world. Nobody dislikes the Dutchies!

As a sidenote: I thought the states were already quite independent of the US as a whole? Would their policies and structure change that dramatically if they separated?

Yes. State law ensures a certain amount of independence, but it would have quite a vacuum to rush into if federal law ended.

It seems that when culture clashes erupt violently, they end up in civil war or political devolution, with varying mixes of the two evident in Afghanistan, Iraq, former USSR territories (and present Russian ones), and the Balkans. The idea that such a thing as political devolution might be the only way forward for the US is pretty scary.

Teach them a lesson for what? Engaging in a cold war? At least they never used their nukes, unlike some nations. Being the subject of 40 years of US propaganda? Yeah, teach 'em a lesson for that :P

Maybe you were being ironic, I dunno.

I was being half ironic, but also just letting off some steam, don't take what I said too seriously. Lets just say that Russia has caused a lot of anger in these parts lately (and not just lately, but actually always), and is trying to use the fact that it controls a lot of energy resources as a wedge to get its will through in other areas.

Soon they are going to increase their military/espionage in the Baltic Sea a lot with the excuse of protecting the gas line that is going to be built.

You may have heard, recently Russia started *unofficial* (officially they can say "there are no sanctions" but in fact there are) economic sanctions against Estonia, and attacked our embassy in Moscow, also "unofficially" through a youth movement under Putins command, because we moved a statute honoring fallen USSR WW2 soldiers (who proceeded to occupy the Baltics after winning the war) from the center of our capital to a military cemetary in out capital.

One day, three editorials. Each one of them makes me so deeply sad.

What the hell happened. I visited California when I was 16 and was so thrilled by it that I aspired to live there when I grew up. Now I want to find the people in these editorials and spit on them.

(Sorry for emo-blog-ness.)

I presume you're not from the USA and want to spit on them for ruining their own country?

I guess I could've been more specific:

“Once you get results and should they indicate some problems, the clock is running on our duty to respond to them,” a FEMA lawyer wrote in June 2006.

This sort of person is the one I want to spit on. The few that are shitting on the many.

I checked out this thread, and the banner ad at the top of the page was the attached image.

Wiki / Google her if you don't know. But the irony is deafening.

The US is fucked. Western "Democracy" is fucked. It's all about oil, money and power, with a sprinkling of religion. Those at the top hang on, those lower down keep getting kicked in the face as they try to climb up.

Meanwhile everyone else is more interested in Lindsay Lohan's tits.

Solution:

Either move to Venezuela and help Chavez hang onto his little Socialist niche revolution thing, or maybe go and live in Iceland and work for CCP. I hear those guys treat you nice, and there are long periods of extreme darkness, which gives one a good excuse to stay indoors, play MMOs and drink... whatever it is they drink in Iceland...

Coke probably... Skál!

Yeah I'm gonna pass on someone openly dismantling press freedom and the country's election system, as something that would be an improvement on what we've got. :)

You think it's bad seeing it? You think it's bad in the country where it's happening?

Try living in Washington, D.C. where I do, and you still can't actually vote for anything meaningful. We have one fucking "honorary" representative, and one electoral college vote. ONE. That will make a difference in NO ELECTION EVER. So, you get to watch it happen all around you (in buildings a stone's throw away), you get to constantly be forced to the side of the road as Bush and his ginormous helicopters/motorcade/hoverboard take up the entire street, and you get the sweet satisfaction of knowing that any drunken anti-evolutionary Kansas school board member has about 200x more input in the government's direction than you. UGGGGGGGGG

What genius thought of that? "Hey, let's have a democracy, where everyone can vote. Except people that live in the capital of the country, that would be stupid." Seriously, imagine if Londoners couldn't elect MPs or Parisians couldn't elect deputies and vote for President? Would that not sound a bit, well, ridiculous?

To be fair, I would think the American equivalent of London or Paris is more New York, but yeah, it's ridiculous. (Your representative is awesome, though. How many times has she been on Colbert now?)
