Salka Posted May 16, 2007 There's nothing more fun or rewarding than meeting people from the internet. That's exactly why I'm considering organising a Big Thumbs Meet-up! It would probably be held in Brighton because 1. I'm in Brighton 2. Brighton is great 3. It's near Gatwick Airport for anybody coming from abroad 4. It's near Bristol and London for our Thumbers coming from Bristol and London 5. It's easily accessible my road, rail and air for Thumbers coming from elsewhere. Ysbreker and Wrestlevania are all like "yeah I'm totally up for this" and they're pretty cool. Plus, I'm pretty sure I could convince Marek to come because he's lovely. And of course, Spaff and DanJW and Nick and you know... everyone else, they're here. Anyway, I haven't actually planned anything to be honest. I'm too lazy. That's why you should discuss amongst yourselves whether this is a good idea. Last time I met people from the internet, they followed me around and scared me a bit and really really pissed me off after about 20 minutes. But on the bright side, I did meet my future husband (not Spaff... he's just a tasty bit on the side). So, yeah. Everybody discuss.
Wrestlevania Posted May 16, 2007 I've been to Brighton a few times (when I've participated in the London to Brighton charity cycle ride in years gone by) during summer, and it's a really nice place to hang out and have a drink. Brighton also seems to harbour a very creative culture, i.e. cutting-edge web development, new music, etc. I've limited experience of course, but I also hear very good things about the nightlife in general. If my impending house move goes ahead OK, and funds permit, I'll be there with bells on. It'd be great to meet some Thumbs in meatspace.
Roderick Posted May 16, 2007 I'm up for a meatspace meet-up, but I don't know if my wallet and time are. It is rather cool though. But anything before September is a no-go regardless of the bait dangled in front of me. Gotta get my movie done!
toblix Posted May 16, 2007 As a rule, I don't meet internet people. They're all perverts and rapists.
brkl Posted May 16, 2007 I'd love to travel a bit, but I actually have a job this summer, which will take up all my time. Of course, if I didn't I wouldn't be able to afford it anyway.
miffy495 Posted May 16, 2007 Sounds awesome, but a flight to Brighton from Calgary is a bit beyond my meager student funds. If some financial miracle befalls me, I'm in. Otherwise, have fun and know that I'm very jealous of you all.
Nachimir Posted May 17, 2007 I'll be in Brighton sometime around the Develop conference in July. I am a pervert, but not a rapist. I am also sometimes crap at socialising.
Marek Posted May 17, 2007 I could possibly come although only if it's in a weekend and if I can do a blitz visit, cause I've been spending a lot of my free days recently and now I want to save them up again for a proper holiday.
BigJKO Posted May 27, 2007 Cool. I might actually be able to pop by, because my sister lives in Brighton and I had plans to visit her sometime soon.
vimes Posted May 27, 2007 Depending on the day and the status of my account, I could do it. Still, I'll be busy/busy till the end of July.
Salka Posted May 27, 2007 Cool. I might actually be able to pop by, because my sister lives in Brighton and I had plans to visit her sometime soon. Who is your sister and what does she do? (it would be cool if I randomly knew her. Brighton is a small place)
BigJKO Posted May 28, 2007 Her name is Freyja, and she's a veterinarian (wow, took me a year to spell this word.) DanJW, no.
Salka Posted May 28, 2007 Ok, we just got two cats and we need a vet, it would be totally awesome if your sister was our vet. We need to get Raz neutered in a few weeks... Whereabouts is her... vetting... place? EDIT: Using the power of the internet, I have totally stalked your sister. That clinic is actually pretty close to us. We'll probably go there. And stuff. DanJW Posted May 28, 2007 Idle Thumbs: bringing families together through the offering of ... small cat testicles. Can I say goodbye to the old Raz before he goes away?
kennyken67 Posted May 28, 2007 Who is your sister and what does she do?(it would be cool if I randomly knew her. Brighton is a small place) LOL that made me think of Kindergarten Cop Who is your daddy and what does he do!

I didn't even know which clinic she was at), hope you get her as a vet. She's pretty good, as far as I know.
