Xbox 360 version 2 update (HDMI, better processor) ?

My sources within MS confirm this is true btw (also that a black X360 will be available soon).

That's nice for people who'd want a black Xbox 360, but it's a color that totally does not fit the form. I saw a picture of a prototype (?) black Xbox 360 once and it was hideous.

So, what are the changes going to be?

I agree with Marek -- something like that detracts from the graceful and striking form of the original X360 unit. Even the simple, boxy little Wii manages to stand out more than that brick. Looks like something I'd find in a server room, not a games room.

And God forbid the official black unit should come with that tacky side window. Nasty shit.

I occurs to me that the PS3 is flipping ugly =( It's this generation's Xbox: an unwieldy black hulk that doesn't fit anywhere and seems to be rightfully ashamed of its own shape; a black whole sucking up all the light around it. This generation is all about being light; about subtle curves and showing them. I think it's be unwise for Microsoft to make a black 360 just because there are a few gothic teenagers who think black is automatically 'cool'.

PS3 = Ugly? 360 has "good form"?

Let's get one thing straight: The XBox 360 looks like a Dell Desktop PC from five years ago, but in white, whereas the PS3 looks like a sleek, modern and sexy machine.

I wouldn't call the PS3 ugly. But it's not great looking either.

While the PS3 looks great in pictures, it looks bad in the living room. It starts as a shiny new thing but quickly becomes a black block with lots of dust and fingerprints on it. Also the curves make the PS3 look fatter, whereas the curves on the Xbox have a slimming effect.

Xbox 360 is much better designed overall. The inward curves, the green circle, the color scheme, it's all very consistently done. The only part of the design I really don't like is the disc drive. The metal/chrome material they used for that looks terrible somehow.

Sorry to go completely offtopic and excuse me if you honestly didn't know the diffirence between the two but this has me bugging for quite some time:

I a black whole sucking up all the light around it.

What is it with people and mistyping/spelling hole as whole?

Whole 1. comprising the full quantity, amount, extent, number, etc., without diminution or exception; entire, full, or total: He ate the whole pie. They ran the whole distance.

2. containing all the elements properly belonging; complete: We have a whole set of antique china.

3. undivided; in one piece: to swallow a thing whole.

Hole

1. an opening through something; gap; aperture: a hole in the roof; a hole in my sock.

2. a hollow place in a solid body or mass; a cavity: a hole in the ground.

3. the excavated habitation of an animal; burrow.

So when you mean something comprising the full quantity of something use whole. If you describe an opening thorugh something; gap; aperture, use hole One letter less and it makes all the difference. A leaking roof or not, for example.

I love this forum. How many other places have threads derailed by grammar correction? Although you never know, he could have meant that it is wholly black. He'd be incorrect, as there are splashes of chrome here and there, but at least his grammar would be solid.

With regards to the "PS3 looks like shit" topic, I'm inclined to disagree. It's definitely (in my opinion) the ugliest of the new consoles, lacking the smooth and clean lines of the 360 or the "we're an inconspicuous little box!" nature of the Wii. It's actually quite awkward and looks out of place in every photo I've seen of it that hasn't been made by a PR company. It's already big enough without having it bulge strangely through some design decision. Why make it bigger than it needs to be? I think the earlier comparison to the original XBox is entirely valid here. Still, it is far more aesthetically pleasing than some other gadgets you may have in your "these things are all hooked into my TV" pile. I'm looking at you, audio reciever... :shifty:

Ys; I think my track record speaks for me when I say it was a simple typo-sort of thing done in haste. I spotted it today and could have corrected it, but I didn't know then someone would take such great offense at it ;)

As for the PS3; I confirm what Marek says. I saw the PS3 they had at Guerrilla and it was covered in a one centimeter layer of dust. I did touch it, though, for bragging rights.

The PS3 reminds me of a sandwich toaster. The 360 is much less hideous than its predecessor, whereas Sony seem to have gone the other way.

I think the place you are describing is known as "the entire internet."

The 360 isn't ugly, but it ain't no Wii, either.

The PS3 is an ugly, ugly bit of hardware. I don't care how shiny it is, that curve is just nasty looking. And the silver stripe on the 60 GB model actually makes it look worse, not better.

But then, I think the first generation PS2 is the best looking console ever made. By far. The slimline is a cheap feeling POS by comparison.

A small oversight.

And, honestly, does anyone really care about that little flash in the pan?

I mean, as soon as we get over the porn, we'll all see that internet is just a fad.

Oh Mansbridge, where would Canada be without you?

Or you could just read the Globe, I guess...

EDIT: The guy discussing how civil the internet is cracks me up. Brilliance!

Haha! In the movie something becomes painfully apparent... even in the 80s people were miswriting 'definately' on the internet

Alright, but don't let me see you do it again, young man! :oldman:

:grumble: :mumble: type slower and think what you write. These young whippersnappers these days! Typing before they think! What is the world coming to? :grumble: :mumble:

For Pete's sake, I read and understood Stephen Hawkins' A Brief History of Time, so I know everything about black wholes!

I'm not sure whether we're still talking about this (I think not) but the PS3 is a two-faced beast. In a lot of photos it looks very pretty - suave some would even risk saying - but in the next batch of pictures it looks like a piece of shit plastic toy that would go for a few bucks down at the local grocers. It can't be lousy photography because I've experienced it more often than that would allow, so I'm wondering if I'm alone on this sentiment?

I actually like the look of all three consoles. And a new Xbox 360 model might convince me to finally buy one, if I became rich suddenly. Is that what we're still talking about?

I hope so. Yesterday someone told me the new model would just be an in-house prototype never to be released to the public. So, any news on the Zephyr?
