n0wak Posted January 23, 2007 Well, if we're going outside the realm of games there's also http://www.boingboing.net/2004/07/28/espns_accidentally_d.html Also, a College paper once had Beavers no match for Trojans
miffy495 Posted January 23, 2007 The reason I was so proud of my find was that it was actually in the Calgary Herald, which is the big, important newspaper for the city. I think it's more fun when they slip up and (or perhaps intentionally) add those weird and laughable headlines.
Nachimir Posted January 23, 2007 The Nottingham Evening post has had some excellent headlines. Culled from a friend's living room wall: "Fingered by Cops" "Battered stripped urinated on and robbed" <-- which filled an entire page and had a picture of an unhappy looking man in the bottom left corner. loonyboi Posted January 23, 2007 Dorky headline writing is an art form. I think in my tenure at Blue's News, my favorite one was: There can be only Wan ...following the announcement of Star Wars: Obi-Wan. I had lots of those over the years. They're fun, dammit. One of the reasons I even have a blog is that I like writing dorky headlines. Some personal favorites from the blog: Things that make you go HOMM (Story about Heroes of Might and Magic) No you’re not. You’ll be stone dead in a moment. (Story about Interplay) Atomic Supermonkeys Master Mind Control (Story about um...atomic supermonkeys).
Simon Posted January 25, 2007 Gears carves into Japan Chainsaws into top ten. The 'chainsaws into top ten' makes me suspect they've read this thread.
Wrestlevania Posted January 25, 2007 The 'chainsaws into top ten' makes me suspect they've read this thread. Probably; but I think it's great! Hope they took out at least one FIFA/Pro Evo team in the process -- that makes me feel warm and fuzzy.
Spaff Posted January 25, 2007 oh no no dorky headlines, puns etc etc are all fine and great, it's just the annoying ones i mention in the first post.
vimes Posted January 25, 2007 I like these headlines, they make me feel smart. Like all the stupid tripled highlighted referetential jokes in Shrek make people think they can be funny and cultured too.

Zaarin Posted November 19, 2008 In Norway, a lot of journalists seem to think that every object comes from a bakery so when they report on something new being released, they always use the adjective "rykende fersk", which literally translates as "smoking fresh". Another favorite is "nybakt" or "newly baked". How I hate those lazy cunts.

Fuzzy Lobster Posted October 23, 2009 I like to think that the world around me is much funnier than it may actually be. Therefore, I choose to believe that journalists are making a hilarious personal joke with the real head-slapper headlines. Please do not force me to accept reality if this is not actually the case. sivartTheGreat Posted December 8, 2009 This isn't game-related, but the Moro Islamic Liberation Front has been in the news lately, creating such wonderful headlines as: "Ampatuan private army seeking help from MILF" "MILF halts movement of Moro troops" "Irish priest kidnapped in Philippines released by MILF" "MILF denies involvement in Maguindanao massacre" "Time ripe for peace with MILF: Clinton" "Clinton to gov't on MILF talks: Strike while iron is hot" Can't make this shit up.
