Sexy Japanese Video Game Girls

I just read the manual for Dirge of Cerberus. Here's one of the characters, Selke:

She's described in the manual as 'having the appearance of a ten year old' ¬¬ WTF???

It reminded me of Eiko and her Crotchless Trousers from FF9...

SUSPICIOUS.

This character in Disgaea has the physique of a nine year old (actually, they all do) and wears scant little clothing. That's not creepy though, she's 1500 years old or something! Yeah...

I predict this thread will bring lots of new visitors once Google goes through it!

I just read the manual for Dirge of Cerberus.

Wow, you actually RTFM'd.

The only games I can imagine myself having to RTFM are strategy and role playing games.

But a third person shooter? Why on earth would you need to?

Pretty Art. Also I like to read Character Bio's.

I second that. I RTFM as well, but always skip over the actual control shit and just go for storyline stuff. Some manuals can be surprisingly deep and have a lot of work put into them. Try it out sometime.

I always read the manual, mainly so I can laugh and act superior when people who don't get confused.

And I thought the fact that the Japanese are obsessed with preteen porn (and tentacles) was well known?

Every Japanese video game character also has their blood type listed in their bio. I guess in case they need a lot of blood all of a sudden.

Guild Wars is a notable example of this.

The Blizzard manuals are a classic example, though with recent releases (ever since Warcraft III) they've been skimping out on them. They've gone down in size and seem less involved, though still full of stories and background info that enhances your involvement in the game.

But really, I've always read the manual. Started back when I started buying games, and reading the manual was a great and exciting way to prepare myself for the game late in the evening when I wasn't going to play or during the car ride back home. I understand that people need to be condescending about it in order to feel superior, but I love games for their sometimes elaborate backgrounds and characters, and that means I love the manuals. But hey, that's a narratologist speaking.

also some games require you to read the manual just to understand how to play it.

btw, Stonekeep came with a complete book (well a small and short one, but still quite some pages). Or the games Crusader No Remorse and No Regret came with various game world related printed stuff. Like a news letter of the in-game company.

while looking for a scan of the stonekeep book I found this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0425170659/102-4673663-0980963?v=glance&n=283155

now I'm puzzled... there was a sequel to Stonekeep!?

Some nice printed additionals to the manual of some games:

Crusader No Remorse news letter

Crusader No Regret news letter

Gabriel Knight 3 comic

Stonekeep book (120p)

(wasn't bothered to find a scanner)

Also went through some other manuals, Redguard and Dark Earth have a lot of back story in the manuals.
