The Massive List of Retro Games!

Recommended Posts

Okay, so this thread is a big compilation of all of the retro games you can think of. Because sometimes I will see the name of a game I'd played and enjoyed and forgotten about, and yeah. You know.

Only post the names of games you liked! Okay, I'll start.

PC

Warcraft, Commander Keen I - VI, Battle Bugs, Micro Machines, Quarantine, 7th Guest, Monkey Island I - III, Rise of the Triad, Doom I - II, Heretic, Day of the Tentacle, Full Throttle, Sam n Max, Theme Park, Syndicate, Alone in the Dark I - II, Jazz Jackrabbit, Duke Nukem, Wordsearch, Quake, Descent, Flashback, Lost Files of Sherlock Holmes, Grim Fandango, Zool, Paws of Fury, Lemmings, Prince of Persia, Pizza Tycoon, The Horde, Framed! Ironman, Comanche Maximum Overkill!!!, F16

SPECTRUM

ALL the Dizzy games, Manic Miner, Jet Set Willy

I know I will remember more. I'll try to compile a huge, pointless list of Retro Games that people enjoyed, along with their publisher/developer and year of release and platform or whatever. And maybe upload it for easy reference. Or whatever. See how it goes.

All platforms welcome.

Start... NOW!

No, wait.

Under this line.

NOW!!!

Don't even get me started... if you want to remember a game and you can't, there's this page just for you....

http://www.gazunta.com/wwtg/

It's called What was that Game - and thats basically the concept. You post there, with something like, anyone remember that game where you were a pink blob wich had this amazing capability, I can't remember, and then there was this music, and pixels - it was fun.... and then someone will know....

Okay, I'll go with a less obvious one. I bet not as many people will be going "oh fuck yeaaaah that game" but whatever. This is my post, so move aside and make room for this screenshot:

The Simsons: The Arcade Game. It was fried gold. I played it to death in two player co-op mode with the girl next door when I was around 10 probably. We never got past the dream world, but today I found out it was only two levels away from the end. Damn!

<snip>

When I was 9, I were with my cousin and our fathers in Orlando, Florida. My cousin and I played this Simpsons arcade game through with the help of couple other residents at the hotel.

We put so much money inside the arcade machine that it was just insane.

Cool! I played The Simpsons game on the PC (with the crappily done port) However my best memory of playing arcade games was when our neighbours were celebrating their wedding anniversary at a hotel/restaurant place that had a tiny arcade in it. I should probably mention that arcades are hard to find in Holland. In America every beach or shopping center seems to have one, but over here it's just a lone pinball machine in a bar somewhere, or like one or two arcade games in the lobby of a casino or bowling center. Few dedicated arcade gaming areas, sadly.

So I was pretty jazzed up when I saw the arcade games at that hotel/restaurant as I was bored out of my skull. The neighbour gave me and two of his nephews $100 to spend and we used it all to play a GREAT sidescrolling fighter jet game. I think it started with your fighter departing from a flight deck that hovered in the air. Anyway, when we spent all that in two hours or-so, I blagged another $20 from my mom, and those nephews got money from their parents as well. So that was probably the most money I had put in a game machine ever. Which was nice, cause it wasn't my money. And it allowed me to stay far away from the super boring wedding anniversary dinner. Wow. This was actually an experience I had half-forgotten and I'm glad this thread somehow triggered it back. Sorry if this story wasn't that exciting and in fact bored you to tears.

Oooh, I remember loving The Battle of Olympus. One of my favourite games for NES, it was so awesome. An adventure... a side scolling adventure, mixed with Greek mythology. And then you got all these cool gadgets from the Gods. Awesome.

I also remember it as long and extremely difficult, I'm not even sure I finished it. Man, I gotta play it sometime soon...

Gasp! Simpsons: Bart Vs Space Mutants! Most annoying best game ever! I never made it past the marsh that I think was in the museum level. What the hell? What was I supposed to do!?

Jungle Strike!!!

Man, I remember that game, loved it vey much indeed! I even have the sequel here somewhere it had really amazing graphics comparatively speaking but I never got into it... I remember memorizing the layout of Washington DC from the game and then moving to the city and being shocked at how wrong they got everything...

Flight of the Amazon Queen - My first ever Adventure game

Sonic 1,2,3,Sonic & Knuckles. Dynamite Headdy was also a good game for the Mega Drive. And even though I only first played it months ago (using an emulator), Zero Wing. The game that kicked off the "All Your Base" craze.

Jesus Christ, Settlers! Settlers was awesome!!!

settlers II is awesome. the only strategy game i like. but in my opinon the sequels suck. i loved the s2-waypoint- and the indirect controlled combat system.

@bobodonkey: is flight of the amazon queen good? i got it on a dvd somewhere in my room but never played it...

Ooooh, WarCraft ][ Tides of Darkness. I played that game with two of my best friends almost every weekend over our LAN. Hours and hours of good gameplay.

Ugh. I'm ashamed to admit that The Simpsons: Bart vs the Space Mutants is one of the few games that somebody copied me years ago. I probably still have the disk somewhere. But I would never play it, because its so damn difficult!

Gods! Magic Pocket!

And even though I never completed this game or even knew what the hell was happening... I think Dreamweb deserves a mention. That game was fantastic. Brilliant atmosphere, lots of detail. Everything had a description or a comment of some sort. Everything.

The drop from the cliff is completely vertical. At the bottom of the drop lie sharp spikes. They glint in the light of the burning sun, high in the midday sky. A bird whistles somewhere to your left as the dry, dusty air lingers around you. Off in the distance, you can see a tree. The air seems to be held, suspended on the string of time. Everything is in slow motion. Then, you hit the ground.

Not actual quote...
