General Fuzzy McBitty Posted July 12, 2006 Several months back I read that one of the things that heavily influanced Monkey Island was a book by Tim Powers called On Stranger Tides. I wanted to read a Piratey book... so I ordered it from Amazon. (Good timeing too, they JUST re-released it. I thought it was quite good, so I thought I'd mention it. Oath Posted July 12, 2006 Well that sounds vaguely interesting, but how about some more info? Is it humorous, is it very fictional and so on. Not looking for a plot summary, just a sense of what kind of book it is.
General Fuzzy McBitty Posted July 13, 2006 It's actually historical fiction. THe crux of the story is that a former Puppeteer is forced into being a pirate. He ends up sailing with Black Beard, who is trying to use Voodoo to make himself immortal.
Roderick Posted July 13, 2006 Yeah, I wanted to read that book ever since I heard mayba a year back that it was Ron's main inspiration for Monkey Island. I even talked about it with him when he was in Amsterdam. Good to hear it's back in print, but I believe there's only an expensive edition, not just an ordinary paperback yet, right? General Fuzzy McBitty Posted July 13, 2006 It's around 20 bucks. It's a larger paper back. It's a bit expensive for a paperback, but you could easily spend that on a DVD, and a book lasts longer.
