manny_c44 Posted May 14, 2004 Lets admit it. Syberia 1 and 2 both sucked. And while the backgrund story is kind of unique, the way the games are played and presented are boring as hell. Terrible voice acting, shite story and script and boring-ass puzzles. Dreamfall, the newest of these still-born adventures, looks like more of the same; a dedicated art team putting their all into a game that features a female-deteive lead who's "her own woman". Where the fuck are the Mexican-Skeleton caliber ideas?! Why the fuck was Sam and Max cancelled!? Why are we leaving the future of adventure games to people who live in British Columbia? I need answers!
Mr Manager Posted May 14, 2004 I believe most of the Dreamfall team lives in Norway. accurately describes your post too. ¬
MrHoatzin Posted May 14, 2004 Since your shitty car has wheels all cars with wheels are crap. That is pretty much what you said.
Intrepid Homoludens Posted May 14, 2004 Yep. manny, your grievance is pretty much a product of personal preference. It would be so unfair if you had your wish and I was never able to enjoy more games like Syberia and The Longest Journey. I do absolutely love Grim Fandango and am still upset about Sam & Max: Freelance Police being cancelled, but let's be real here. There is room for every kind of game under the sun. Why fuck it up for everyone by only cranking out clones of Grim and S&M?
tabacco Posted May 14, 2004 So... your argument is that because you hated Syberia, dreamfall is no good? You do realize that Dreamfall is by an ENTIRELY different company, right? and that not a single person from Syberia is a part of Dreamfall? That Dreamfall is realtime 3d instead of using prerendered backgrounds? In short, do you actually know anything at all?
Vansau Posted May 14, 2004 Do you even KNOW anything about Dreamfall other than it's an adventure game? Go play The Longest Journey and (after you publicly apologize for bitching about Ragnar's masterpiece series) assume the inevitable position of waiting for Dreamfall with baited breath. A whole bunch of us from Thumbs have seen the preview of Dreamfall here at E3 and we're all drooling over it. Seriously, don't comment on games that you don't know anything about. ragnar Posted May 14, 2004 If you want Mexican skeletons and S&M, why not go and play Grim Fandango and S&M instead of spreading your whining everywhere?

manny_c44 Posted May 15, 2004 Just admit it! Not an original bone in its whole body! It may be fundementally sound, it might have wheels, but I want a fucking hover-car damn it. I was only comparing Syberia to DF because of the stories and situation, LJ is much better than Syberia, but its no prize pig. I know I'll cave and buy it, because I'm starved for adventure games, but something not based in a rustic eatern-eurpoean town during winter would be nice. :ratchet:

If you knew anything about TLG, you'd know that there's one modern world and one technological world. So the "rustic eastern-european town during winter" shit doesn't hold up. Find a new argument. So that probably means you haven't played TLG at all. Perhaps you should give it a try instead of bitching at it on forums. Not sure how you can even judge the game like you do before actually playing it. All we've seen is a few screenshots. Jeeze.

manny_c44 Posted May 15, 2004 Well I'm basing my info on the sequel entirely on E3 screenshots, so really my argument holds no merit, its just speculation. But I digress, it might be great, who knows. On an entirely different subject, when I was reading that bit about 'Out of this World' on GBA, or whatever they call it in Europe, something hit me about the nintendo DS. Stylus and Touch screen Flash Memory Cards for Games Plenty of Hardware ability This seems like it will be a great platform for a special edition of ScummVM, one that uses the touch screen for the action and the top screen for the inventory. This is seems like the obvious next step for ScummVM in my opinon.
Huz Posted May 15, 2004 The Longest Gourney - it is a porn movie set on Frank Herbert's Dune...... Hoho! (Best) On a note slightly related to the entirely unrelated note in the post above, if you look at the ScummVM page you'll see they were working on Another World support - for a while, until they took it out. Mmm, tasty.
Intrepid Homoludens Posted May 15, 2004 The Longest Gourney - it is a porn movie set on Frank Herbert's Dune...... I thought it was The Longest Gurney. Set in a futuristic hospital in a city where all the people are descendants of nano-experimented humans engineered to be extremely tall, and the game's only resolution setting is 50369x724. Erwin_Br Posted May 16, 2004 I'm currently playing through the Longest journey, it's pretty good. Hey, so am I! I bought it recently. I already wanted to buy it a few years back, but they only have Dutch versions here, while I prefer English dialogue. --Erwin
