(... I haven't seen Mulholland Drive ...)

It's great! Now-a-days the loose consensus is that Mullholland Drive is Lynch's best film. I'd definitely rate it in the top three with Eraserhead and Blue Velvet.

I finally got around to watching Wild at Heart last night. If you are a Lynch fan but haven't seen Wild at Heart yet, I would say watch it for sure. That's all I'm going to say about it!

Also semi-related about that scene:  I'm seeing a lot of criticism about the way people reacted to Richard Horne aggressively grabbing that girl, saying it was unrealistic because no one intervened.

It's a shocking scene, and the guy is complete and total creep, and then you remember, right, this happens all the time and people don't intervene and the victims freeze up. From the way extreme way Horne was talking to the young woman I'm inclined to believe he was on drugs.

I'm starting to suspect that this show will definitely not resolve even half of these threads in a satisfying way.

Lynch doesn't have a reputation for resolution, that's for sure. He understands very well that once the mystery is solved, it is no longer a mystery. For example, in this thread we are still talking about who killed Laura Palmer: was it Leland, was it Bob, was it Leland's doppelganger being influenced by Bob, is Bob just a metaphor for the darkness in every human, etc.

I'm more inclined to believe he's simply the son of the wealthiest man in town. We see he's got the authorities in his pocket. What does he need restraint for?

Now, what's his motive in this scene? That we don't know yet. Is he out to harm this girl for a specific reason, or is this just what he's like?

I liked the scene with Sheriff Truman and his wife.  It felt very Twin Peaks-y to me.

Yeah me too. I kept thinking how similar she was to Nadine's drape runner obsession with the Sheriff playing the role of Ed. I guess Twin Peaks has a long running tradition of characters acting ridiculous and another character just blithely dealing with it

Or wealthiest woman! Considering his age, he's probably Audrey's son.

That's right, I'm still coming to terms with the kids of Twin Peaks having kids of their own now!

I found this on another forum. Credit to Lynchland member Facundo Galvan. Possible solution to why Coop is obsessed with the statue.

Has anyone explored the possibility that Dougy is the exact middle ground combination of both Coopers? Good Coop is one polar end. Dopple Coop the other polar end and the combination of the two is Dougy. He is not a good person but he's not bad either. He sells insurance which isn't bad but has slimy aspects. He is a family man but steps out with Jade. I haven't thought it through completely but it is something I've considered.

I just signed up to the forum to post that my take on something.  Coop shedding a tear while gazing at Sonny Jim was another piece of Cooper's real personality coming to the forefront.  I think He's realizing that somehow he's been injected into this other man's life. He's coming to the realization, much like the viewers are, that at some point in the future he's going to leave this wife and son without a father/husband.

On a side note I love how much the Dougie arc again brings forward the trope of characters in Twin Peaks just ignoring insane things going on around them or in front of them/ just taking it for granted that its how the world works. .  People noting that he's lost weight, people noting the new haircut, but no one seems to bat an eyelash at how they have to lead Coop around like a child, put his clothes on for him, etc etc.  The only person that really seemed to actually care about Dougie/Coop(on a grander scale) was Jade, and that was probably because he just puked on the floor and could barely even walk.   It does make me wonder if we will get any Dougie backstory, was he always just an aloof kinda guy?  Did he have psychotic episodes that cause him to go basically catatonic on occasion?

A stupid part of me wishes they mention Leo soon, followed by a cut to the cabin he still is trapped in.

Hahaha I forgot that the season two finale has one goofy cutaway to Leo still trapped. Amazing.

Of all the Twin Peaks cliffhangers, Leo is the one I've been wanting to know about the most. I keep yelling, "But what about Leo?!" every time a returning character is introduced.

I mean, he's probably fine. Part of what makes his predicament so ludicrous is that a tarantula bite is basically like a bee sting. But this is from a time when a lot of media portrayed them as lethal creatures.

If the cage fell, Leo maybe got one or two bites from surprised spiders who then scampered off. Just being tied up in a cabin in the woods is by far the worst part of his situation.

For me the best way would be another quick cutaway to him in the same situation. No resolution, just showing he's hanging in there.

Mirrors and more tech interference..?

My guess is that this is just a production mistake, that it's supposed to be the case that BadCoop's fingerprints are mirror images of Coop's and the person who put the images together for her screen accidentally mirrored the whole picture instead of just the print.

I can't tell from this screen grab, but watching the episode, I was certain that the picture of young Coop she was looking at had the red curtains from the Black Lodge in the background behind his head.  Did the filmmakers just use an old Twin Peaks publicity still of Kyle MacLachlan?

I thought so, too, joking "How did they get a picture of Cooper in the Red Room?"

But given a closer look, it looks like it's a wooden door or wall behind him. Could be the Great Northern, could be an office.

But in any case, yeah, it's pretty much a publicity still, which cracks me up.

I went into the scene of Dougie at work thinking I was going to get really annoyed and exasperated at how implausible it was that people would ignore his non-responsiveness.  But I thought the scene in the meeting was really well done.  The boss clearly thinks Dougie's behavior is bizarre and unacceptable, but he doesn't want to stop and deal with it, he just wants to get on with the meeting.  And then in his office, he's all, "I don't know what your problem is and I don't care.  Pick up the slack or you're out."

So it wasn't that they improbably didn't notice, it's that they all-too-plausibly didn't care and didn't want to deal with it.

This is spot on I think.

I keep worruing that Dougie will wear out his welcome but I find I'm liking everything they're doing with this scenario.

Agreed. I get the feeling that Boss Man only cares about results. He frankly doesn't care if you're a mess, he doesn't care about you personally, as long as you're an asset to the company.

It's other characters outside of work that make me surprised he hasn't been checked into a hospital yet.

I would guess it's from the Roadhouse.

I noticed the writing being wrong on that fingerprint picture, but never put together that the print was backwards. I'm hoping this pans out to mean something and isn't just a mistake.

After complaining about the first two episiodes and being just about ready to stop watching, I'm a big fan of the last three. A little more comedy goes a long way, and I'm starting to really get into the super slow and long held takes on things such as the falling through space, cocaine car trip, casino bits, etc. I think the series has reached the stride I'm looking for, now I just want some more of the misc. returning cast to have a more important and useful roles. Thinking about it, a lot of characters in this show have been sort of useless so far, both returning characters and new. Hopefully as things weave together it will make some more sense.

Some potentially interesting electricity musings...

Formica = electrical insulator

Gold = electrical conductor

Dougie (and maybe the black box?) shrinks down to bits of gold-colored metal.

On an unrelated note, something was mentioned in the podcast that has been bothering me. The woman does not text "ARGENT 2". SMS messages have a 160 character limit, and she has typed one character: "2". This reduces the remaining characters available to 159, as noted at the top right of the Blackberry screen. "ARGENT" is the contact she is sending the message to, which is linked directly to Argentina when we are shown the black box. Which blinks twice.
