agorman Posted December 12, 2016 I watched The Handmaiden the other week and was just floored. This was the first Park Chan-Wook movie I've seen, and am planning to make my way through his oeuvre. I had no idea what the movie was about, or even what genre it was going into it and that was absolutely the right way to see that movie. The range of emotions I experienced while watching it was incredible. The scene where Lady Hideko and Sook-Hee destroy the erotic novel collection is one of the most cathartic and joyous scenes I've seen in a while. The attention to detail throughout the movie is just staggering
SuperBiasedMan Posted April 15, 2017 The Handmaiden is a very good movie, from Park Chan-wook, who also directed Oldboy. It's got a great way of unfolding as the movie goes on, I highly recommend going in blind. That said, trigger warning for sexual violence. And you should be aware that there's a lot of sexual content in the movie.

I think if I went in knowing that it was basically a heist movie the narrative reveals would have been less surprising/fun to watch. It was the first movie I've seen in a while where the narrative genuinely surprised me, and I didn't know what direction the movie was going to go at a certain point. One of my favorite movies I saw last year. Came out of the movie theatre somewhat in shock.
Patrick R Posted April 24, 2017 I like that The Handmaiden is essentially Bound, but you don't know it's Bound until it's almost over.
