Hey all. I'm about to PM SL128 a list of all the clips, so that should hopefully be that on clips.

As for Bloodborne, I've been considering waiting on that until I can get a streaming setup that would allow for the internalization meter/etc to continue, but given the reality of how long it'd take to get that up and running, I'll probably just go ahead and start streaming it tomorrow.

Yay! That seems pretty reasonable, I'll miss the internalization meter, but it'll always be there for future PC games.

Sounds alright to me! I think I'll miss Omar Sharif most of all, but I'm sure we'll carry on the tradition in-chat.

Update: Sorry folks, no stream today. I have been totally owned by incredibly loud construction going on outside my apartment. Which, for the next month, probably means I'll only be doing 5pm Pacific streams. As it happens I'm busy tonight after 5, so tomorrow it is.

The guy who voices the clinic cutscene sounds a bit like Jonathan Pryce to me.

Man, I feel so bad for Nick. Basically everything that could make the beginning of this game a nightmare to play has happened.

Can you give me a rundown? I'll watch the VOD when I find the time, but it might be a while.

Where to begin???

-Picked the Waste of Skin character class (starts at level 4, all others start at 10)

-Picked the weakest melee weapon out of all the starting weapons

-Picked a bad firearm for parrying

-Chat seemed to insist that Nick should learn how to parry, he proceeds to waste a bunch of time (and more importantly blood vials) working on that

When I stopped watching the stream today Nick was totally out of blood vials, and basically still not in great shape to beat the Cleric Beast. It feels bad to me because I beat the Cleric Beast on my first attempt, and I think I am worse at Souls games than Nick, but the difference is I didn't have all these different factors setting me up for failure.

Sounds like a classic case of chat leading Nick astray. What dastardly malcontents.

I think struggling with Central Yarnham is a pretty typical experience with Bloodborne. The cane is not that bad either, just takes a bit more finesse to use. More fun to watch in my opinion. I'm sure he'll get to a place where he's powering through the game soon enough.

The blood vial system is such a massive downgrade from estus when it fails, and there are no upsides to counterbalance that. Nick, if you have any trouble the Cleric Beast, feel free to postpone the fight and explore more. That will help you build up a buffer of vials and other items, and possibly even level yourself or your cane.

I was interested to see Nick play Bloodborne because this is the only souls game i have ever played, and it broke me.

I tried two playthroughs and got stuck on Amelia both times (the 3rd or 4th boss), and both times i eventually gave up and uninstalled the game. The thing that broke me, like it seemed to be doing Nick, was the farming for blood vials. I knew i could only die to Amelia a few times in a row before i would have to go waste time grinding through enemies again, and the knowledge of that mentally exhausted me, because i hate it. Especially in a game where grinding is such a damn struggle.

I understand that the Dark Souls games have a system where your healing items automatically refill, and i really wish they had used that here, because it's an incredibly cool game but i don't believe i will go back to it.

To be fair i'm pretty bad at games (incredibly bad considering how many games i've played), so i'm sure Nick will be able to beat this now that he's used to it. Also i did get Amelia down to about 15% health at some point, so i would probably have beaten her eventually if i kept grinding.

I never learned how to parry either, because you never know which attacks can be parried for different enemies, the only ones i could parry were the big brick guys and a very easily-parried boss. Should i not have used the blunderbuss?

Edit: Oh i hope i don't get deleted for spoilers because i said Amelia. She broke my heart.

So, watching Nick play Bloodborne after playing it myself and I think that Nick just is too stubborn for his own good. The game really rewards a kind of slower, more methodical approach near the beginning. Enemies do drop enough blood vials, and what Nick needs to be doing is not Cheatin' Hitman style stuff. When he first started playing, he did amazingly since he kind of took it easy and fought each enemy one at a time. After that, he just decided to spend a bunch of time just trying to run to the Cleric Beast, which costs him vials that he's not recovering, and also caused him to fail repeatedly at different points. This is not how this part of the game was designed, at all. The early part of the game almost requires you to just be patient and kite enemies around so you can defeat them. They will drop blood vials, and you'll start storing them.

Also, WIde-Boy, the thing about Amelia that allowed me to beat her (on my first attempt) was just leveling more than I perhaps needed to (I suggest going to a few different places before fighting Amelia, there is actually another boss at the end of the Charnel Lane that's not so bad), and calling Henriett, who helped immensely. As for parrying, Nick practiced on the wrong enemy to practice this on. The way to do it is with those stupid brick trolls. They leave huge openings for parrying. If you start in Central Yharnam and take the left (through the shortcut), you can pick up a bunch of quicksilver bullets from an old man with a gun in the house, and then head down and fight a few brick trolls, which will teach you how to parry. Essentially, you gotta look for the opportunity when they go in for a big attack, and shoot then, and quickly rush in to gouge away with the visceral attack. It's tricky, and very helpful against hunter bosses.
