aprettycooldude Posted January 27, 2017 Hey y'all! I stream from time to time mostly through PS4, but I'm planning to set up a PC rig at some point soon! https://spooky.church (or https://twitch.tv/aprettycooldude whichever)
Problem Machine Posted January 28, 2017 Added, followed, autohosted -- though for some reason when I tried to add aprettycooldude for autohosting it didn't see his account. Oh well!
J.C. Posted January 30, 2017 After not really streaming for a while, I've kinda picked it up again (from my PS4). Did some ABZU over the weekend, which had a couple viewers. I'll have to see how well my laptop can handle streaming and maybe do some games on there too. I don't really know what people look for with streaming though, as it's not really a thing I usually go for? If I watch someone playing a thing, I generally just want to get an idea of what a game is to see if I may like it. Many streamers I've seen try far too hard to be "personalities" and end up being intolerable.
eRonin Posted January 31, 2017 I recently streamed a full play-through of Disaster: Day of Crisis. This was a silly little game that came out back in 2008 on the Wii, from Monolith Soft, the developers of such JRPGs as Baiten Kaitos and Xenoblade Chronicles. This game is not a JRPG. The premise of the game is that a terrorist group has taken advantage of a series of natural disasters across America to steal nuclear warheads and hold the US government to ransom amidst the chaos. It is not by any means a good video game, but I love it for its humour, over-the-top setting and surprisingly good voice acting, despite the generally low quality of actual dialogue. It never made its way to the American market, and didn't sell well at all in Japan and PAL regions where it was released, but I think it's an interesting addition to Nintendo's video game lineup, due to some pretty heavy subject matter and a lot of (mild) swearing. It also has some pretty sick driving sections, but below you can find my full play-through: Part 1: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/113541525 Part 2: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/113541734 Part 3: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/113541895 Part 4: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/115351592 Part 5: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/117186310 Part 6: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/118438235
ZacMatic Posted February 2, 2017 I made an account on Beam and discovered that anyone can make a Beam Team after racking up some fake Beam currency called Sparks. I want to make an Idle Thumbs Readers team, but I don't know what the name should be. The team name can include spaces, and it will have a URL like http://beam.pro/team/name Beam teams work basically the same as Twitch teams. Go to Beam and click Teams at the top to see examples. SometingStupid Posted February 4, 2017 So I started streaming recently at https://www.twitch.tv/foyfluff. I started with some Magic: the Gathering but I've moved away from that now and I want to start doing some more varied video games and become a bit of a variety streamer. My first foray into this was a playthrough of Gone Home, because somehow I hadn't played that yet. You can watch the full thing here if you'd like: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/118928499 Going forwards I'd like to do more of this kind of thing, including (but not limited to): Far Cry 2, Firewatch, and perhaps a Pokemon game. I've spent today trying to make my channel look a bit nicer too with panels and a header image and what-not, getting that #brandsynergy going, plus, I thought in the spirit of "dress for the job you want, not the job you've got" that it might make some people believe that I actually know what I'm doing. I've been checking out some of the other Thumbers streams and I'll get you guys onto my autohost list as soon as I discover how to do that.
hedgefield Posted February 5, 2017 I'll throw my hat in the ring too https://twitch.tv/hedgefield Just started streaming some Steam backlog action, and probably also gamedev in the future. Broadcasts will mostly be restricted to the weekend I think, but who knows.

Broadcasts will mostly be restricted to the weekend I think, but who knows. Just followed you and checked out a couple of your streams. The Ghost of a Tale stream was having some frame rate issues though, I don't know if you realised that while recording. I look forward to seeing some game dev streams from you too. Also, for some reason when I click that link it puts a full stop on the end and can't find the page, not sure what's going on there. Streamed some Binding of Isaac today. ProblemMachine came over and gave some support which is much appreciated though. sadly you were the only viewer for the entire stream though so it looks like I'll need a bit more publicity before streaming that again is worthwhile. There's a definitive snowball effect to getting viewers. The more you have, the higher up the list you are and the more you'll get.
hedgefield Posted February 5, 2017 Oh yeah I removed the period from the post but it was still in the link - fixed it now. Yep I switched to Xsplit for the Ghost of a Tale stream, which fixed the issues with the webcam but introduced issues in the gameplay. I've set it to encode on the CPU now so I hope next time everything is smooth. [update] turns out the framedrops came from Xsplit running on the same GPU as the game. I switched it to use the Intel onboard one, keeping the Nvidia dedicated to running the game, and now it's buttery smooth.

elvaq Posted February 8, 2017 Oh hey, forums! Us streamer-types have put together a public calendar that people can check for regularly scheduled programming http://tiny.cc/IdleStreamingCalendar Obviously following folks who are on said calendar (btw they're all good) on Twitch and/or Twitter is a good idea for up-to-the-minute info but this should hopefully be a continually-ish updated resource. I really think we're building something special in the Slack and each other's chats and it has spurred me on to do far more streaming of myself than I ever thought I'd do. Cheers and a half to the amazing group of folks that have huddled together and are all doing very cool stuff! ps-- i am doing streams at https://www.twitch.tv/elvaq! right now i just want to prove i can stream on a schedule before i get even slightly fancy with it. currently focusing on Pillars of Eternity, rotating 4x/strategy games, and maybe some upcoming random indie stuff as well pps-- the multiplayer streams of Jackbox and maybe some forthcoming games on saturday nights are just incredibly fun. stay tuned! Zeusthecat Posted February 8, 2017 I think I've got my following and auto-hosting up to date with everyone up through elvaq. If anyone doesn't see me following them let me know and I'll make sure to add. I managed to check out a few of Badfinger's streams as well as Billthecat, Feeona, eRonin, and kickinthehead. I've enjoyed everything I've seen so far and you all are doing a great job. And I hope to see more floating cats in Badfinger's Crusader Kings 2 streams because floating felines are fucking fantastic. I would love to put my schedule on that calendar but unfortunately, I think it would be tough to adhere to a schedule with a specified start time. I'm almost getting to the point where I feel like I can commit to consistently streaming every Friday and Saturday evening (with some Sundays thrown in as well) but start times for me will vary from 8PM to 11PM depending on what's going on with the wife and kids. Dad problems...

Currently I'm contemplating hopping around games a little bit just to see where I can start to build an audience (more saturated games have bigger payoffs but can be much more difficult to get any viewers at all) but I'll definitely do some more Isaac thanks to your pledge. Kyir Posted February 9, 2017 https://blog.twitch.tv/communities-93de2c1a2e4d#.cx46pcbab This is something that's probably relevant to everyone here. Communities are basically just open teams it seems like? You don't need to be a partner to set one up either.
eRonin Posted February 10, 2017 Yeah I'm thinking of setting one up maybe, and that can be a one-stop shop to find all the twitch streamers that are on here? But it seems like you can only be part of one community, and I know Feeona for example has already joined something else.
Kyir Posted February 10, 2017 It read to me as though you can only stream to one community at a time, but that it was relatively easy to switch between them? Someone would need to test it out I guess.
eRonin Posted February 10, 2017 Yeah changing what community you stream to is as simple as changing what game you are streaming. The only issue right now is that you can't follow a particular community or save it to a list of favourites, nor is there a search feature. Needs a lot of work but I can see it being pretty cool. eRonin Posted February 11, 2017 All right, I've set up a Twitch community for folks here. The link can be found here: https://www.twitch.tv/communities/Thumbs_Readers though unfortunately right now there doesn't seem to be a way of following or saving a community to your favourites list. Nor can you search for a community...but hopefully this page will soon be populated and can be an easy way for folks to check if people are online, without committing to following or even having an account. Problem Machine Posted February 11, 2017 Added some info about the slack channel and twitch community to the first post, since it seems like they're going to be a big part of this whole endeavor

eRonin Posted February 11, 2017 You can choose what community you want to stream to on your dashboard, just above the bar that lets you choose what game you're playing. They purposefully made it easy to change, I suppose to compensate for the fact you can only stream to one community at a time.
JoelWmusic Posted February 15, 2017 www.twitch.tv/joelwgaming i do old games block on fridays. play a game on saturday night (right now it's dead space). We also hold a thumbs game night. where we group up and play Jackbox or other things. Then through out the weekend I'm doing a series called Y.D.I.O.T. or Why Do I Own This?! playing through my immense steam library.
Treasure Goblin Posted February 17, 2017 I should add the Jackbox streams are super fun and also you can participate as an audience member, even if there are the 8+ people already. You don't need to own the game to play, just a browser and Discord! Here are some of the results of the streams so far, some may verge into NSFW territory for cartoon butts and language: http://games.jackbox.tv/artifact/TeeKOGame/UJY9OPPRycjmjViwLDdPKwmD09UKBcWD/http://games.jackbox.tv/artifact/TeeKOGame/7zDbRsIGG17Od18hcUrxoJB609UK2sUW/http://games.jackbox.tv/artifact/TeeKOGame/BHmCAd67yN1hilTpKohHQ0CK09UyYrPO/http://games.jackbox.tv/artifact/TeeKOGame/OCckbXYRodpGDUeVISFx2Odb09VdhtIv/
eRonin Posted March 6, 2017 I've streamed almost my entire playthrough of Zelda: Breath of the Wild so far. This game is so fun to watch as well; I've watched half a dozen other streamers play through the opening zone and I see new things every time.
