Hitman: Steve Gaynor Edition

Recommended Posts

For those who want to SASO this elusive target, use the default entrance with any silenced pistol, and some kind of activated explosive.  Immediately go straight and take a left, then continue to the mechanic's workshop.  From cover, shoot the power outlet on the puddle near the soldiers, then cause an explosion in the alcove to the puddle's right.  An evacuation will be caused, and the target will run straight into an electrocution.

Despite sniping the target from a far rooftop with a silenced rifle, somehow all the guards in the area immediately knew where I was and went into combat. Managed to get clear after killing about 6 of them.

I have no idea how it's determined whether or not sniping was noticed, but it has definitely seemed bizarre in my sniper only runs.

I won't accept killing this elusive target by any manner other than poisoning, but I'm pretty certain she never eats/drinks anything so it's looking like I'm going to  have to try and peel off some of her guards and see if they get replaced, and if not then try and hit her with a lethal syringe.

She'd be easy by sniping, there are multiple traps in the alleys I've noticed, but all I want is to feed her some rat poison and drown her in a toilet bowl filled with her own vomit and I can't figure how.

Narratively, is the idea that she asks these soldiers to show her around, which is why she has an armed escort?

I never found a good opportunity to do anything sneaky, so I eventually dropped the exploding cell phone in the side room that goes between the streets and the restaurant courtyard. Unfortunately one of the soldiers picked it up, but I decided to try blowing it up anyway. No dice, but she's turned away from the door I was at, so I go in, silenced shot to the back, just barely manage to run out of range of the word about me and escape. Not very clean, but it's a success.

I was really hoping she'd be randomly murdering people around the level, and you'd have to be careful to not be framed for her crimes / try to prevent them for a SASO run.

Yeah, I was hoping that she would at least be moving around scoping out good kill spots, maybe wandering up to a roof or two.

I sniped her right through the armpit changed clothes and sprinted to the exit. No idea how the guards spotted me right away. I want to get that Silent Assassin suit!

The Holiday bonus stage is so good!  Having to track targets who behave like the player character when it comes to sneaking past security is a great idea.

Man, I think I accidentally speedran my first time through the Holiday Bonus DLC. Text in white since I don't know how to spoiler tag. Started as AV crew, first guy alone in a room a little ways away on my floor, walk over there, close door, headshot from behind, leave. Second guy walking around the basement, spend a minute figuring that out and how to get down there, guy is in locker room, wait a moment till he leaves and walks down an empty hallway, strangle and neck break, walk back a room to exit, leave.
Total time, 2:34, and about a minute of that was spent figuring out that the second guy was in the basement and not on the stage floor.

Hopefully they change where they spawn?

Edit, Just realized that if I'd just shot the second guy I probably would have gotten the never noticed bonus as well as the no bodies found one. I guess it makes sense that that guy noticed me choking him to death before he died though? Doesn't seem like it ought to matter though.

I picked up the Paris mission a couple of weeks ago and have mainly been poking at the tutorial mission. I tried the Paris once, but didn't get very far. My internalization meter on this game is pretty low.

But, wow, that xmas mission was weirdly easy! Got it done in 15 minutes. Surprised at the video-gameyness of the AI. All I have to do is pay attention to who has a white circle above their head. Otherwise I can meander around the level acting like a fool. The targets for the xmas mission let me follow them around very closely until they wandered into empty rooms. I dug the holiday vibes. Want to try it a few times, see if I can find the santa suit. :D

The Santa Suit is crazy:

Santa is real, I guess? He appears and disappears in spots around the level in a cloud of smoke and sparkles.

It makes more sense if you think of each level as a sort of clockwork, interactive diorama. Most things will loop more or less indefinitely until you do something to change it. A lot of the depth comes in the discovery of what kinds of things you can mess around with.

If you're having some trouble getting into the groove, I would suggest looking for those Opportunities. The first time I played each level, I would take the first opportunity I found for each target, and they do a pretty good job of leading you around and showing you what kind of nonsense you can get up to. And completing them helps you get level mastery unlocks, which just adds to your toolbox for later runs.

Yeah, following an opportunity doesn't feel very fun when you are in a sandbox game mindset, but it is a good way to get your head around a level and how the game works at large. Think of them like training wheels. You can take them off once you get the hang of things.

There's still a decent amount of flexibility on how you fulfill a lot of the opportunities. Goals like "get a chef's outfit" are often more complicated than they sound.

Recognized the target's area from the briefing video, did some sneaky climbing, and downed him with a few silenced pistol shots through a window. Got recorded by a camera, and somebody witnessed the target's death, but no one got past the "Searching" phase. A bit messy, but effective.

Managed to get Silent Assassin on the new Elusive Target.

I started in the plaza with a baton and a syringe.  I snuck into the basement behind the kitchen assistant, stashed his body, and then took his clothes and the key.  Went up to the top floor, and when both guys in the top room had their back to the door I went in and clubbed them both and destroyed the camera footage.  Took a bodyguard outfit and jumped out the window, went down the pipe to the room down a floor.  I noticed that the target was in the room with me for the moment, and then he started walking back into the larger office.  I jumped back out the window and went back up a floor and dropped a chandelier on him while he was standing in front of the desk.  Backed out of the room, back to the basement, picked up my suit, walked out of the level.

I forgot about this thread!  For this ET, I just dropped the chandelier on him like every other dull person.

Apparently, she murdered the headmaster and 'discovered' his body.  The soldiers were there to investigate, and to protect her from the killer.

I've been enjoying making user-created contracts in Hitman (I've had five featured contracts so far!).  I decided that it would be fun to do a Wizard Jam sort of thing and make some contracts based on Thumbs episode titles.  Here's the first: Charge Guy, Tree Guy, Ice Guy, Bendy Guy.

(Do a lookup on the contract ID to find it.  PC only, unfortunately... contracts aren't cross-platform.)

Charge Guy, Tree Guy, Ice Guy, Bendy Guy

PC Contract

Hello, 47. We have received word that four members of a criminal spy ring have infiltrated the Gama private hospital. The operatives (codenames Charge, Tree, Ice, and Bendy) plan to cut the hospital's power later tonight and escape with stem cell research.

Our clients have been planning a heist on the same research. They refuse to be beaten to the punch. They want this cell of spies eliminated, and in a manner befitting their codenames to send a coded but clear message to the competition.

I agree, I did like all the missions listed though, that one from absolution was one of the only open map missions in the whole game. Reminds me a bit of colorado.

I think murder of crows is my favorite Hitman level of all time. There is a timed objective, you coundn't just find you targets easily on the map and dressing up as one target made the other one instantly attack you. Also was just a cool crowded level.

I really fondly remember the "Curtains Down" theatre level from Blood Money. That's when I really understood how much work the developers put into making everything work the way you expect. After many failed attempts to sneak the real gun in to replace the prop gun, I gave up and simply went up on a third floor balcony to shoot him with my silenced pistol. That's when I found out that if you shoot him at the exact moment that the trigger is pulled on the prop gun, it registers it the same as if the prop gun had been swapped. It's a really cool thing that they didn't have to add, but made me feel so clever.

Something they do in that contract that I wish they did more often is placing more expectations on you as the player to play along with whatever your disguise is meant to be doing. For example, Participating in the play as the shooter in Curtains Down. Another, stronger example, is disguising as a point man in the colorado mission. Having to basically rock up and act as if you've been there all along in a training exercise is a great mix of tension and almost comedy as you desperately try to work out where you're supposed to be and what you're supposed to be doing based on a very short briefing.

I like this idea and will do your contract later on. I wish there was a way to browse/save contracts on the web or using Steam or something. This whole contract ID thing is Nintendo-esque
