melmer Posted May 17, 2015 1st September 2015 Hope it'll be able to capture the intensity of the car chases in the movie... Who am I kidding

Erkki Posted May 17, 2015 I somewhat doubt that an open-world game (it is, right?) of Mad Max could capture the insane road battles. That would be more like Naughty Dog's forte. But this could be a good game anyway.
melmer Posted May 17, 2015 Yeah it's open world. Batman lite combat. I get the impression there will be strongholds you'll need to take, like far cry or just cause. No doubt the ubisoft "tower" mechanic will be in there to uncover the map. I'm kinda disappointed by the amount of cars on screen plus the range/size. Maybe this video is just scratching the surface but I ain't seeing anything near the craziness you see in the movie. No doubt they'll have a fury road convoy DLC mission if you preorder the game. I got a feeling this game is going to be massively underwhelming and a missed opportunity, as I think there's the potential for a really good game in the mad max universe. Kinda feel like theyre spreading them selfs to thin here, a jack of all trades, master of none vibe. I can see the review summaries already. The only time car combat is enjoyable is when you're in a race, where fighting is just a means to get an edge and not the sole goal. And escort missions? Forget about it The right way to do this game would be a large multiplayer team based convoy attack and defend. 10 people on a big rig fighting off continuos waves of bikers etc on the opposing team
Twig Posted May 17, 2015 And escort missions? Man I just went from cautiously optimistic to utterly pessimistic. I forgot about the possibility of escort missions and ugh this game will probably have loads of 'em. ):
Architecture Posted May 18, 2015 Mad Max 2 is a feature-length escort mission, isn't it?
Merus Posted May 18, 2015 Also it's being made by an American team. Do they have a sufficient grounding in Australian car culture, which underpins all four films? Can they think of a concept as simultaneously gloriously stupid but bizarrely logical as the Doof Warrior?
Architecture Posted May 18, 2015 They're Swedish, actually.
Twig Posted May 18, 2015 But it's the New York City branch, I believe. EDIT: I guess I'm wrong. Just found an article that says the NYC branch was working on a different project after Mad Max had been announced. NEVERMIND.
Erkki Posted May 18, 2015 Mad Max 2 is a feature-length escort mission, isn't it? No, not really. There isn't any escort mission in there at all.
Erkki Posted May 18, 2015 I'm seeing almost the same kind of baseless negativity here as Shadow of Mordor had before release. Guess I'll just stay out of this thread until the release.
melmer Posted May 18, 2015 Well... Mordor comes to mind a lot when I look at this game. But where as Mordor was surprisingly good, I fear this one may swing the other way. I'll have to check back and see if I was a neggy neggos in the Mordor thread. Ultimately it was the nemesis system that lifted that game to a higher level. I don't see anything like that here.... Yet. Again, still early days Also, eating rotting human intestines is probably going to make you ill

Yet. Again, still early days The thing is, the Nemesis System sounded like complete and utter bullshit, on the level of Radiant AI, until people could confirm that it actually did what it says on the back of the box. That's a rare enough thing that I don't consider the act of doubting that it'll happen to be pessimism, but then I'm a bit of a cynic. Who knows if "bwild ya cah" is going to be the same surprise or not?
melmer Posted May 18, 2015 loads of content in here from game informer. They made a big splash on it a couple months ago http://www.gameinformer.com/p/madmax.aspx 50 min podcast with the developers: http://www.gameinformer.com/cfs-filesystemfile.ashx/__key/CommunityServer-Components-SiteFiles/media-audio-theshow-madmax/madmaxse.mp3 First person view inside the car Harpon weapon to pull off armour from other cars You can change hair cut and beard

Erkki Posted May 18, 2015 The thing is, the Nemesis System sounded like complete and utter bullshit, on the level of Radiant AI, until people could confirm that it actually did what it says on the back of the box. It was people's fear of the unknown. Which I'm really disappointed to see in these forums.
Bjorn Posted May 18, 2015 It was people's fear of the unknown. Which I'm really disappointed to see in these forums. I'd argue it's people's distrust of a history of hyperbolic video game marketing, and triply so when dealing with a licensed property. There's a reason the IGN blow-you-away thing is a meme around here, we've been promised the moon and sold chalk rocks too many times.
Dewar Posted May 18, 2015 I am hopeful this will be a good game simply because they didn't go "movie's out this week, ship it now, I don't care if it's ready" like most licensed games. It seems like they're putting at least some effort into it.
Erkki Posted May 18, 2015 Well, I read all the Game Informer stuff, seems like it might be a competent game and the vehicle combat + upgradeable vehicles seem like a unique enough angle for an open world game. I hope it will be more than competent, though. I'm also hoping there would be vehicle-hopping, but so far they haven't mentioned it. If the vehicles feel anything like Flatout or Wreckfest, then it would be awesome, but I guess they will feel more like the Just Cause games. I haven't played them a lot, but they seem kind of more like Michael Bay floaty than George Miller physical? I guess I should give Just Cause 2 another try to get a feel of it. Sno Posted May 20, 2015 I'm cautiously optimistic about this game, Avalanche is a fine developer and this game seems to be aiming for a lot of pretty appealing goals.

tberton Posted May 25, 2015 The only time car combat is enjoyable is when you're in a race, where fighting is just a means to get an edge and not the sole goal. Somebody clearly hasn't played Mario Kart's combat mode or F-Zero X's Death Race mode.
