  1. Apparently FX is trying to make a Welcome to Night Vale TV show, with the podcast's creators working as executive producers in it. https://www.avclub.com/fx-is-developing-a-welcome-to-night-vale-show-1821139534 I thought maybe this was the kind of forum which might also be interested in Welcome to Night Vale and be excited by this news. I admit, I haven't listened to it in a while. Since episode 80 something, I think. It's not the sort of podcast that I can listen to in the background while playing a game, so it's harder to fit into my schedule when compared to others. It was, however, the first podcast I ever listened to, and I like it very much. A TV show based on it has the potential to be just as brilliant as the podcast. I have no idea what form it would take though. I imagine they would ditch the community radio format? Perhaps leave it only as a framing device? As it might be too stationary for a TV show. Then again, maybe the budget won't be that big so they'll need the format to say things are happening offscreen? Has anyone here read the Night Vale books that were written? I'm under the impression they follow other characters. I have no idea what the narrative is like in them, but they might be a good indication on what path the TV show might take.
  2. Road Trip Recommendations

Later this month my SO and I are taking a big road trip from Tampa FL to Sacramento CA. What are recommendations people have for filling ~48 hours in a car over the course of 5-6 days? Podcasts? Music? Audiobooks? Crafts? Books? 3DS games? It's just the two of us, so things that can keep us both engaged are desirable. Things only good for a passenger are discouraged as it is the co-pilot's job to help keep the driver awake and alert. (3DS games can be good if they don't require a lot of reading and can be easily paused or looked away from to carry a conversation) Things that are already on the short list for what's being brought: A trashy teen werewolf romance novel that is the sequel to a pair of books we read over the last 2 roadtrips we took that I will read aloud. The series was written by a former professor that I took classes from at our Alma Mater He has fallen behind in the Adventure Zone, so I'll try to get him up to date I will be taking my knitting project as that's something I can do by myself but still talk while we listen to a book or music
  3. Listening to casts whilst gaming

I, evidently, love listening to podcasts and find them an excellent form of entertainment for their convenience. I listen to podcast when walking, exercising etc but also find that playing particular video games while listening to podcasts can be enjoyable. Spelunky, Just Cause 2 and FTL are my go tos currently which is kind of a shame because of Spelunky and FTL's excellent soundtracks but their minimal narrative and dialouge allow for a focused listening experiances without detracting from my extreme gamer level. Do you do this? (I know Chris has while playing Zumas Revenge) Do you have any suggestions of games to play while pods are being cast?
  4. Limited run podcasts

Most suggestions for podcasts I come across are for ones that are weekly/ no end date and I was wondering what good podcasts that had a limited run and are no longer updating. The ones I have listened to are mostly history - the history of rome, the military history podcast, 12 Byzantine rulers, norman centuries (both by the same guy) and the life of Napoleon (about 60-70 hours long which seems insane in retrospect), a lecture series on the life of Hannibal and a series on ancient greece I came across in itunes U.
  5. So I saw that Idle Thumbs is now hosting a Netrunner specific podcast, and they have DOTA Today. Which got me thinking about hyperniche podcasts, focusing on just a single game or limited topic. Anyone have any specialized 'casts they listen to? For me it was Twin Humanities, a podcast that talked solely about Dark Souls, hosted by a couple of British gents. It's an absolute treat to listen to if you're a fan of the game.
