  1. Yeah! #geeksinsneaks!

I work out three days in a row, then one day off, pretty religiously. Swimming in the morning at 7am - it varies, but somewhere around 1.5k, with 500m warmup, 300 preset, 300/400 main set, and then a cool down - and then gym workout in the evening at about 5pm before dinner. Love it.

  2. The Nerdist has a gigantic backlog with amazing guests (Including Gabe Newell!). You have to not mind Chris Hardwick (the host) but I find him pretty pleasant to listen to as well. He's a huge comedy nerd which seems to fit your tastes.

Yeah, this is my problem. I like some of the guests a lot, but Hardwick grates unfortunately. Something about his personality just really doesn't click with me.

  3. I decided mid-last year that I wanted to become an actor, and so applied to the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) for entry in 2014. For context, that's where Chiwetel Eijiofor and Benedict Cumberbatch went, for example.

And hey, I got through to the final round! I don't know when it'll be yet (although I'm assured soon) but I am very excited. And nervous. But excited. Mostly nervous. Also I have a lot a lot a lot of work to do. Bugger.

  4. I feel like I haven't posted in this thread for a while, so here goes:

I'm doing okay, largely. Bummed out about a woman - what's new there? - and feeling incredibly snowed under by the weight of my dissertation (with my first draft due in 10 days, and my final piece due in exactly one month), but largely level-headed about the whole thing.

Oh, and by the way, if you wanted to help me out in your own small way - Thanks! - you can fill in some online survey things at www.tinyurl.com/gamesanth and www.tinyurl.com/anthdiss

    Now back to lurking.

  5. The only thing I know about Kate Bush is that she has two different videos for her crazy Wuthering Heights song, and both are suitably weird.

  6. Well I don't like to think it's bad survey design per se. :( but as it says at the beginning of the survey, this is just a preliminary survey to the bigger more-in depth coming later. You'll have a chance to be more nuanced then. :)

Ps: my professor hasn't spoken to me in a term. When I told him my dissertation idea, he told me how his idea of 'games' is to play with his vegetable farm. Not even FarmVille. Just a regular old farm.

  7. I'm a bit sad about the offline games question because I want an option that lets me like both first options equally. I bet SpeedyDesiato would have let me choose that.

    SpeedyDesiato is dead.*

Ahahaha. It's a nice quick survey! The next (and final) one will be based on the results of this. :)

Rodi - heh. Yeah, I know, it's something a lot of people are bringing up. Two reasons I did it: one, they're instantly recognisable names and I'd categorise them as focusing more on narrative than emergent systems, and two: it tickles me to have gears and gone home in the same category.

Thanks for filling it in though guys, pass it on on twitter, Facebook, email!! :)

    *I killed him.

  8. Hey guys!!

Some of you likely know that I'm in my final year of University, and as such I have to research and write things. As someone who's played games his entire life, I spent a while trying to figure out how to write a dissertation that was Anthropological in nature (my actual degree) but still incorporated video games. If you'd like to see the result, and would like to be a part, please help me out and fill out this super quick preliminary form at http://www.tinyurl.com/gamesanth - And, quite importantly, pass it on to friends and colleagues! The more responses I can get, the better the end result will be. :)

  9. I tried Rayman Fiesta Run, and surprisingly it is not bad! They added a bunch of platformer verbs: punches, wall jumps, gliding, so it kind of feels like an actual game.

All those things are in Jungle Run, too!
