  1. I don't know if I've posted it or not yet (I couldn't find it if I did), but I was playing around taking pictures of it today (mostly of my "new" joystick (which was new in box an obtained recently, but manufactured a while ago) so I thought I'd post one.

People often joke that my desk looks like it could just as well be from 1999 as it could 2015 (mostly due to the CRT and vintage controllers I think).  I actually got the CRT (new in box) recently to replace my old one (same identical model, a Sony GDM 5411 built for sgi back in 1999), and run it at 1920x1440 @ 75Hz and it looks very nice.  In that picture its actually turned on and is simply displaying a completely black image as a screen saver (when I calibrated it last, its black levels measured at 0.01cd/m2 I think, and as a result its hard to tell if its on or not unless its in complete darkness).

You can't see the keyboard really well, but its a Ducky "Year of the Tiger" keyboard with Cherry MX Brown switches that I got a while back (and I've replaced some of the key caps with orange caps).  The mouse is a Logitech G100s mouse on an original style Func surface 1030 pad (I still have an extra one lying around for whenever I wear out the textured surface on it).  The ruler under my monitor is probably evidence of some sort of madness.  I use the ruler whenever I start playing a new FPS game to adjust it so that it takes about 3.5 of mouse movement  inches to turn 360 degrees (I don't fine tune it, I just use it to get it in the ballpark.

I see you've got the Warthog throttle, do you have the stick as well, if so why is that not your main stick?  :o And is that a CRT?! I haven't seen those in ages!

  2. I'm not sure that game would be possible in VR, so I'd bet against that. If they were to do something like that in VR, it'd be so different as to be unrecognizable as Mirror's Edge, I think. It'd have to be first person to start, but you cannot take away control from the players head without making them sick.

  3. Got another US session for Sunday at the same time as last week. There's also the regular Monday session which is also at the same time. Mind you, Sunday afternoon for the US session is mostly because I'm "hosting" it so to speak. If there's a US based person who takes over that role, there's no reason why it couldn't be later in the day. Drawback of course being that it'll probably be too late for any EU folk to show up, but hey, we get Mondays!

  4. Recommended system for the Rift:

    • NVIDIA GTX 970 / AMD 290 equivalent or greater
    • Intel i5-4590 equivalent or greater
    • 8GB+ RAM
    • Compatible HDMI 1.3 video output
    • 2x USB 3.0 ports
    • Windows 7 SP1 or newer

Which means I'm all set! They also confirmed it to be running at 2160×1200 at 90Hz split over dual displays. Those are the same specs as the Vive headset from HTC/Valve!

  5. I meant the top bit of the drawing area. I had to change the mapping on mine because the top bit dosen't work. Apparently it's a common fault with the Intuos 3.

Ooooh, no luckily no such issues.

that hella lack of towels tho  :P

Are you referring to the extremely soft and comfortable fleece blanket on my rad chair?

  6. I know there's people concerning about "Quiet" but don't worry. Kojima created her character as an antithesis to the women characters appeared in the past fighting game who are excessively exposed. "Quiet" who doesn't have a word will be teased in the story as well. But once you recognize the secret reason for her exposure, you will feel ashamed of your words and deeds.

  7. I've catsitted a deaf one in my house for a bunch of days. I remember it like it was thursday, august 14th, 2014! Infuriatingly curious about everything, yet so very adorable. Especially when sleeping.

Looks like you have less trouble with clutter now :)

Out of sight, out of mind. ;)

  8. Chris Crawford on Game Design. You'll likely not agree with everything he says, but that's bound to happen with someone as opinionated as Crawford. The book itself is quite an enjoyable read, with loads of anecdotes and history about past games he's worked on as well. He's a really interesting character. It's pretty crazy to consider how far ahead he was at the time when it came to thinking and writing about game design.

  9. I have a hard time dealing with clutter in my personal space. It makes me feel restless, or something. Let's not check my bedroom, though.
