I think the ultimate version of that Twitch game is to have twitch chat have assigned roles like in a game of Werewolf or Mafia (you can have a bot in chat assign those roles to people) whose job is either to help or fuck over Nick, and they only have access to particular slivers of information.

     

    I was thinking a lot of party/social tabletop game mechanics might be fun there. Another angle to explore would be limited set of communication tools that pass information to the streamer, a la Codenames or Mysterium. Perhaps certain words trigger pictographs visible to the streamer, and the chat has to make sure they only use words that will make helpful information appear, but some other common words also show useless or misleading info, so you have to choose your words carefully?


  2. My attempt was also a mess, though I did manage to kill him. 
     

    I got the church staff disguise from one of the apartments near the safe house, and snuck in through the morgue without getting frisked. I noticed he was praying at the various candle racks around the church, so I decided to drop a proximity mine as he approached the second one. Unfortunately his bodyguard immediately spotted it and approached to defuse it. I used this opportunity to stick him in the back with a poison syringe and run into the sewers, as I needed an outfit change. I knifed a bodyguard and switched from the completely compromised outfit, and managed to slip out and get to the speedboat.

     


    It's really silly how readily and calmly the security staff recognize proximity mines. I guess in Hitman-world everyone has them.


  3. It's possible, but not guaranteed. The leaked docs reported by Giant Bomb implied games would need an update to take advantage of the PS4k, but CD Project Red has a pretty good track record of long-term support, and from what I heard the console versions of Witcher 3 could definitely have a smoother framerate, so it might make a nice before/after for Sony to market with.


  4. Yeah, I came right off Bloodborne into it and it felt sloppy as hell compared to From's games. I could never be quite sure what kind of swing Geralt would do, and I would often not notice I'd been hit. I eventually got okay at it, but only because I learned how to work around its sloppiness, not because I internalized it and felt competent.


  5. You sound as though you believe there's a nobility in misleading people.

    Also, the conversation really isn't about having a difference of opinion or being a fanboy or whatever you guys on here want to use to justify a nonsensical position. Were elements of games such as Rome 2, CoH2 and Stellaris disappointing? Sure. Are they three examples of the worst games ever made? No. And to tell people they are is simply dishonest.

     

    You take review scores way too seriously. Try engaging with the text of a review, not your perception of what a score means. Tom's reviews are always worth reading, even if I completely disagree with his conclusions.


  6. Scores are stupid. Pretend they don't exist and read reviews for the text and not the number attached to them. If you disagree with any of Rowan's actual complaints, that would make for a lot better discussion than you comparing the arbitrary dumb number he assigned to the arbitrary dumb numbers assigned by IGN's other reviewers.


  7. Should I feel bad about savescumming pretty extensively in this game? I played the tutorial levels, and found that when caught I could either start over and execute a bunch of the same moves over again, or just jump back to the last save from a stable place and figure out what I can do differently. Am I missing out by not trying to play out fail states?


  8. It's fair enough, but if you don't want the online-enabled features you can play offline, right? You just can't switch your current in-progress save between offline and online. If the game were online only it'd be a totally reasonable complaint.

     

    Looking into it more, it seems like you can play the core levels offline, but none of the progression or other challenge modes are available offline, even if you have previously played online and downloaded all that stuff? Kind of crappy, but not nearly as bad as the impression I got from the negative reviews.

     

    tl,dr: Steam reviewers are hyperbolic!


  9. Your post sounds overly worried. You are maybe 25% of the way through the game, and you're doing fine. Lots of players get help on the gargoyles and the Capra Demon. (Especially Capra. Fuck that guy and fuck the camera in his arena.) Some more specific help:

     

    Covenants: They're basically multiplayer modes grounded in the narrative. Leveling up in covenants can unlock shops that sell special items, but you can absolutely finish the game without messing with one. Just read a wiki if you want more info about them.

     

    Story: Try reading item descriptions, but you aren't really far enough to put much together. I didn't really understand the story until I started engaging with community content about it, particularly the Bonfireside Chat podcast mentioned above.

     

    Humanity: Sometimes you randomly get one when killing enemies in an area with a boss you haven't beaten. If you find yourself with two, you should go human and kindle a nearby bonfire. If you haven't figured that out you will be so happy when you find out what that does. The item discovery stuff isn't really something you should worry about.


  10. Chris: I've generally found getting summoned into someone's world for Souls game co-oping is a really low-committment experience. Usually, you will help someone clear a boss/die trying and be done fairly quickly, and summoned help failing doesn't really affect the host. You guys should drop a summon sign during the next stream, because no matter what happens it will be entertaining.


  11. I like Arabian Nights, but the overall structure is definitely the weakest part. Earning story/destiny points and the weird bet you make are at odds with enjoying it as a storytelling game.

     

    And sometimes you just have some bad luck. During one game a player ended up Ensorcelled, Insane, and Enslaved, so someone else chose where he moved, someone else picked his reaction to encounters, and someone else took all the rewards from encounters.

     

    This kind of thing is hilarious to hear about later, but it's a real bummer at the table. I actually wrote up set of house rules to make a lot of the statuses less sticky, because getting stuck with the rules-as-written version of Grief-Stricken can be a real bummer.     (They also attempt to sideline destiny/story points, but my quest draft replacement is still not great, because the quests are just all over the place.)
