  1. Well, has anybody played the game yet? It's officially out and I got my Steam code.

I only played the first chapter and... The graphics of the characters seems... kinda wonky? I was also put off by the intro, it was so overly dramatic and I don't even know why. Is it trying too hard?

As for the gameplay? I'm kinda liking it, you play as an appraiser with a ridiculous knowledge on historical figures and for some reason, you have to investigate someone's live and.. compare it to a historical figure.

I only played the first chapter which only takes place in five sparse rooms where you investigate the life on a Venician lady, once you collect enough data, you play a mini game of sort where you must eliminate the ones that don't fit her description, I think it might be possible to do it with out all the data, but I'm not sure.

I'm guessing this will lead to some wacky conspiracy and intrigue shenanigans.

Frankly, the only thing that is really putting me off is the art, I'm pretty sure Jane Jensen's last game looked better than this.

I'm glad the writing and gameplay seem to hold up ok. I was well aware of the artwork looking horrid from seeing the previews so I was pretty pessimistic about the rest of the game.

EDIT: I just started playing. Oh god, the animation and models in this are worse than they are in the trailers. The writing seems fine and I'm liking the music so far but even as someone who usually doesn't even care about graphics this is really bothering me. How did they think this was ok? Luckily it looks like the models in the Gabriel Knight remake are better.

  2. Yeah, somewhere in the arc of WoW and the Activision merger Blizzard became a really unsavoury company in a lot of ways. They might improve now that they're on their own again, but we'll see.

Wait what's this? Blizzard is separate from Activision now?

Did anyone read Stay Awhile and Listen? It's an ebook about the making of the first Diablo and I thought it was pretty cool. It's not perfect but it's a pretty fun read if you liked other stuff like Masters of Doom.

And yeah, change the difficulty. The game improves drastically if you play on a harder difficulty and play with friends instead of solo. Join the Thumbs guild, we'll play with you!

  3. I think what I love the most about Morrowind is the world itself. Everything just feels so alien in the creature and building design. I had such a hard time getting into Oblivion because the world felt like generic fantasy compared to Morrowind. Skyrim still wasn't as good but at least it was better than Oblivion.

Now I really want to play Morrowind again. The only thing I'm not looking forward to is how tedious it is fighting cliff racers.

  4. It's already been mentioned a few times, but I figured I would bring up The Private Eye by Brian K. Vaughan as the 6th issue is out and the first 5 issues are now collected in one digital trade, so if you haven't checked it out that's a good way to get it for $0+.

Never heard of it but I do like Brian K. Vaughan. I'll check it out!

  5. These are the amazing Hellboy Library Editions that I mentioned:

Would you recommend these if I wanted to get through the series? I've only read the first story a long time ago and would like to get through the rest. I don't know why I waited since I really liked the comic too. Are the spinoffs worth reading too? I know nothing about Hellboy aside from the first few issues.

  6. Yes there is a clan and community for the US, they should pop up in the search

I really should pay more attention to the multiplayer gaming group. Request sent!

  7. I'm really liking the expansion too! It's probably an even bigger change for me than most people since I haven't even played since before paragon levels were introduced and yeah, it's way better now that everything has been rebalanced.

Was anyone thinking of getting a Thumbs clan or community going for this game? Do we even have enough people for that?

  8. Man, what a drag realizing Pendleton Ward's dumb game takes a spot from DF games. Of course I should have known that but didn't think about it. Anyway, none of the games I was really interested in made it.

I'm actually ok with him making a game and the game I voted for won, but think of it this way, maybe it helped get the Amnesia Fortnite some extra funding and some Adventure Time fans have discovered Doublefine and will buy some of their games. At least it will be fun to see him participate in the daily streams for the next two weeks.

  9. DO NOT USE UNITY SCRIPT (what they for some reason call javascript). I mean you can use it, especially if you're working totally solo. However EVERYONE uses C# (also typed languages are fucking rad). So if you end up working with other people you're going to be seeing code written in C# basically all the time.

Oh thank god I chose C# then. I've been learning Unity by working on a game with my friends (basically a remake of the old pc game Skyroads) and I didn't know what to choose. I was more familiar with C# but it looked like their documentation and a lot of tutorials used Javascript. I guess I chose wisely.

  10. If there's one game that needs Oculus Rift support, it's a game by Cyan. I can't wait to play this.

The myst games are well worth playing, they hold up quite well. (The first 3 games in particular, and Uru with a few caveats. Myst 4 and Myst 5 aren't as good, however.)

If you don't have any troubles getting Real Myst running, i think that's a pretty great way to experience the original game.

I'm actually not a huge fan of Myst 3. I really like the other games that studio developed (The Journeyman Project series) but the world in Myst 3 just wasn't that interesting to me. It might actually be my least favorite Myst game, not that it's bad.

I also think that if you're going to play Uru, you should actually download Myst Online instead. It's free, you can interact with other people, and it has the content that Cyan created for the game when it was on Gametap.

  11. Just another post saying how great Gone Home is. I hope it doesn't take years for Fullbright to develop another game.

Anyone know how well it's selling so far? It's not at the top of best selling list on Steam but I would imagine that it has a way lower budget that most of the stuff on there anyway and hopefully it's profitable for them.

  12. The new documentary episode is up! A couple of times where I had to avert my eyes, because I saw beautiful, beautiful spoilers. What a load of uninformed nerd rage concerning their decision to split the game into 2 parts, by the way. Really frustrating to watch.

I think that most of the people that backed it aren't angry about it. Most of the rage seems like it's mostly because it's the internet, where someone always irrationally hates something. I mean, it's still a big screw up but the game is still happening unless no one buys the early access.
