  1. Hai everybody!

So I thought the Minecraft server was running and I logged in to see if anyone was on because I was going to unplug my network switch for a moment and didn't want to interrupt anyone's fun.
I see the server wasn't actually running, whoops! I wonder how long it's been? Check the log files, about 40 days now...

Sorry about that, I didn't mean to take down the server without saying anything. I really thought it was running. There must have been a power outage or something that I didn't know about.
Anyways since the server has already been off for 1.2 months and no one has complained I'm going to go ahead and leave it off for now. I don't mind running a Minecraft server and I can fire it back up if anyone wants, also I can post the world file for download if anyone wants to play with it, but I don't want to worry about having to keep the server running if no one is using it.

If anyone wants to play some more, wants me to host something else, wants the world file, or just needs to get a hold of me at all message me here, or on the Idle Thumbs slack or at my username at gmail.com

  2. Thanks @Vulpes Absurda :D

Ok the server seems to have survived the move from the old house to the new one. I was able to connect but since I also live here that doesn't necessarily prove anything. I THINK I've got the port forwarding rules set up. If someone wants to test the server and let me know, if you have any problems reach out to me here or at evilskillit at yahoo dawt kom.

  3. Hi Minecrafters, skillit here.

Just wanted to let you know that I've got to move the Minecraft server from my old house to my new house. I'm not sure when it'll happen, maybe tonight, I dunno. When I do the Minecraft server will be down for a couple of hours or maybe a day, but not permanently. I'll keep it running for the foreseeable future as it doesn't cost me anything. @neonrev is really interested in doing some modded servers, and I'm willing to oblige, so that might be in the pipe for the upcoming weeks after the server moves. I'm going from a 20mbps-up cable connection to 1000mbps-up fiber so if anything hopefully it runs even better! :D

Wow! Some impressive creations going up in the server!

Haven't played in years. But it seems like my Minecraft account still works - could someone please add Beasteh_uk to the whitelist? Would like to walk around and maybe contribute...

I added you just now, you should be able to get in. If not let us know. :)

I have to say it's really nice to to jump into Minecraft without even thinking about mods. Every time I've tried playing again since I "quit" I've always done so with the end goal of installing a number of the coolest mods. But that requires going back several versions, etc.

    It's a fun game.

I've set up a bunch of mods for my kid using multi-MC. To be honest the whole thing is usually an exercise in frustration for me. I have no idea how one sets up a modded server, but at some point in the future if enough people are interested we can try to figure it out.

Current vanilla seems pretty decent. Everyone sure is building a lot of cool stuff there.

    **EDIT**

Ok, so things happen when I get ideas. I found some random free web host and uploaded the output of overviewer to it. The files are still uploading but currently it works.
I have no idea how much bandwidth this uses, so I have no idea how long this will stay up for free. Maybe it'll work forever, or maybe you all will get it shut down immediately.
In the mean time here, go play with it!

IdleMC Google Maps Type Web Page Thingie!

Ok here are a bunch of fun pictures from the google maps rendering thingie. I did a bit more research on how to use it and managed to get a render that shows everything everyone has built and was only 300mb. I'm not a web server guy, but maybe I'll see if I can figure out a way to stand this up somewhere so people can play with it, because it's darn cool. Anyways, pictures.

  7. @Paul Smith

Ok I removed your wood pillar as requested.

As for the Overviewer thing. I made a copy of our map then ran Overviewer against it and it generated a folder with a bunch of stuff in it that is 1.4GB. So I'm wondering what do you do next? Well you need a web page to host that stuff from. I don't really do any web page hosting. If anyone here is interested in hosting this content I could either zip the output files and put send them to someone, or I could just send someone a copy of the world and they could use Overviewer to render themselves a map of it. I took some pictures of the output and attached them here.

  8. Hello everyone, Evilskillit your friendly server proprietor here.
Having this thing open to the internet at large without any password or gating mechanism of any kind is making me uneasy. So far things have been great, but I'm afraid one day someone is going to log in to find all their hard work burned to the ground or something.

Minecraft doesn't seem to be able to do password authentication, plus passwords aren't great anyways. It works on something called whitelisting. Basically once I turn whitelisting on, only people whose Minecraft accounts have been added to the server will be able to access the server.

So far I've already whitelisted 15 people who have already accessed the server. In order to be added to the whitelist you'll need to post here with your minecraft account name, or private message me here, or contact me on the IdleThumbs Slack, or e-mail me at evilskillit at yahoo.com.

From the time of this post going forward the server whitelist is going to be turned on. If it causes too much trouble or I figure out some other method of securing things I'll update here. In the mean time, happy mining!

edit: @SgtWhistlebotom I think I mistyped your name in the whitelist, sorry about that. It should be fixed. If not please let me or someone know and I'll get it fixed as soon as I can.

@jimtwo I saw you hit the server in the logs, I've since added you to the whitelist. You should be able to play now.

  9. **edit** Tabacco has pointed idlemc.com to this minecraft server. You can now connect to it using that address.

Information about the server and other stuff can be found at http://idlemc.com

Someone on slack asked if there's a live IdleMC server right now. Apparently there is not.

I myself don't really play Minecraft, but I do have a server and some bandwidth so I figured I'd see what I can do.
I have a server up and running right now at idlemc.ddns.net. Currently it's a vanilla world in survival mode with no password or other access restrictions set up.

So, first off hop on and check it out, make sure it works if you want.
Second of all, as I said, I'm not a Minecraft person. If someone who knows anything about running a Minecraft server wants to help me with any setup, configuration, and/or access control on this thing let me know.
Lastly, do you guys actually want a Minecraft server? If so is there anything in particular we want? Should it be survival or creative? Should cheats be on or off, etc. Let me know

    Thanks,

    -Skillit

  10. I'm excited for the Valdis Story and Hyper Light Drifter runs myself!

My daughter meanwhile is super excited about the Spongebob: Battle for Bikini Bottom speedrun.

  11. For a bit more info, I don't have any particular schedule either. I don't stream terribly often actually. I work regular day shift hours so it'd be evenings on weekdays and whenever on weekends. But it doesn't really matter to me either. I'm not looking to make this a thing. I just stream for fun and company, and figured this would be a good way to make sure if I do get someone to come hang out it'll be someone decent to talk to. :)

Edit: Streamed some Helldivers last night. Probably a bad game to stream in some respects because it's really hard to look over at chat while you're playing it. But that's what I'm into at the moment. Will probably stream some more at some point this week.

  12. Hey everybody! Long time thumbs listener, recent forum subscriber. Mostly to get in on this TwitchyThumbs action.

I stream very sporadically, and as much to archive my play as anything else. I don't normally talk unless someone joins the channel and talks to me. Then I have a great time chatting back and forth. But if I'm by myself or I don't know anyone is there I won't be talking.

I play Souls games, RPGs, and whatever other random junk strikes my fancy. If anyone ever wants to pop in I can be found at:
