  1. 13 Reasons Why

I just watched this episode last night, and Overall, I am really enjoying this show. The creators seem like they actually care about portraying high school life at least somewhat accurately. The bullying that lead to Hannah's suicide wasn't perpetrated by vindictive assholes (with a few exceptions), but by mostly well meaning teenagers who haven't learned how to care about other people yet. It doesn't absolve them of any guilt for that, but at least it acknowledges that you don't have to be a monster to hurt people.
  2. Modest Tech: The NX Generation (Nintendo Switch)

Polygon just posted an article saying that in the future you will be able to add friends through social networks and by entering their Nintendo Network ID: http://www.polygon.com/2017/3/2/14792066/nintendo-switch-friend-code-response. I don't know if that lives up to the standards of others, but that sounds pretty modern to me. It doesn't say anything about the timing though. Like I said before, the MK8D part was speculation, and I don't think I'm confident enough to put money on the line
  3. Modest Tech: The NX Generation (Nintendo Switch)

The only reason I say so is because Reggie said in an interview in January that they wouldn't be doing friend codes: https://www.cnet.com/news/nintendo-switch-reggie-fils-aime-3ds-tablet-launch/ The Mario Kart 8 Deluxe part was speculation on my part though. He may also be referring to the other systems that are already in place, like being able to add friends on the same local network.
  4. Modest Tech: The NX Generation (Nintendo Switch)

My sentiments exactly. I understand why some people react to them the way they do, but they have never really bothered me. Also, iirc, there aren't any games with online functionality at launch. I would say that it is pretty likely that by the time that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is released they will have a more modern system in place.
  5. I think you guys nail responsible escapism on Idle Thumbs. It is clear that you guys give a shit about everything that is going on right now, but during the podcast you are able to focus on the funny and absurd in the world. My social life breaks down into two categories these days. In one I am surrounded by people who care about current events, and all we ever talk about is the worlds slow descent into authoritarianism. It's exhausting. In the other I am surrounded by people who don't care, which means every conversation is shadowed with a guilt that I'm wasting my time. it is equally exhausting. Idle Thumbs has been an escape for me over the past year. I'm able to relax by not having to think about the current state of affairs while also knowing that the content I'm consuming is created by people who really care. Basically, keep doing what you're doing! Thanks for all the pods!
  6. They usually start around 5 p.m. Pacific.
  7. I have subconsciously constructed some ambiguous beef between Sean and Chris to explain his disappearance from the podcast. I didn't realize that I had imagined it until I heard their tracks together on the Firewatch dev commentary. I would also love to hear him back on the podcast in any form. He brings a unique perspective to any conversation he's in.
  8. Other podcasts

Reply All is great! This weeks episode about Longmont Potion Castle was equal parts baffling, hilarious and insightful.
  9. The Great Co-op Thread

Ghost Recon: Wildlands takes place in Bolivia, which has special significance to me as I lived there for a few years. I'm really interested to see if the game captures what it's like to be there. If any of you end up playing the beta, I would love to see any video you capture, especially of any of the cities. Edit: I've watched all the promo material already, but it mostly takes place in the wilderness, or weird drug compounds.
  10. I started listening about 2 years ago, and your podcast has been something I look forward to each week ever since. Like others have expressed, the Thumbs are the real reason I listen, and I'm excited to listen to what you guys put out next. Thanks for all the casts!
  11. I'm having the exact same experience with the Last Guardian. I felt comfortable writing my list before I played it because of the lukewarm reviews I read, but goddamn... What a fantastic game. Trico feels autonomous in a way I have never seen in a game, and I have grown quite attached to him/her. The Last Guardian is a real achievement for video games.
  12. GOTY.cx 2016

    10. Dark Souls 3 9. Uncharted 4 8. Thumper 7. The Witness 6. Hitman 5. Dishonored 2 4. INSIDE 3. Kentucky Route Zero 2. Firewatch 1. Hyper Light Drifter. Honorable mentions: DOOM: I remember this game being a blast to play, but it has been completely expunged from my memory otherwise. Virginia: This game was really interesting, and very well done, but it's hard to recommend because of how little there is to interact with in the game.
  13. That's too bad. I agree with Nick's sentiments from last night. The Lord of Cinder is unforgiving in a way that no other boss in the series is. On my first play-through of DS1 I spent a solid week trying to beat him, and by the time I finally did I was so utterly bored with the fight that I didn't even feel accomplished. I had that feeling that Nick talked about on the podcast, where I had already beaten him in my mind so I was no longer invested in the fight. I still liked it better than the final boss from DS2.
  14. Did Nick end up beating the Lord of Cinder last night?
