  1. So, what did wake Cooper up?

I always assumed that it was Hawks job to find something missing, which would lead to the return of Agent Cooper.

So he found the lost pages of Lauras Diary, which caused Truman to call Gordon Cole. This made Cole search for Douglas Jones in Las Vegas. This resulted in two idiot agents not being able to find Douglas Jones. Instead they witnessed a man murdering the remaining henchmen of Bad Coop.

In the moment of the arrest Cooper wakes up.

So was arresting the Zawaski Accounting guy (aka a man under a lot of stress) the key to Coopers return?

When Lucy transfers Margaret Lanterman's final call to Hawk, she tells him it is on Line One. She does not say, for perhaps the first and only time in the show's history, that Line One is the one that is flashing.  An omen? Margaret's first words to Hawk, "I'm dying."

Wow, good catch. It is odd and out of character that Lucy doesn't mention the blinking light.

Margaret says to Hawk before the conversation ends and she says her final good night,

"Watch. Watch for that one - the one I told you about, the one under the moon on Blue Pine Mountain."

I feel like the lines before your quote are important too:

    "Remember what I told you.

I can’t say more over the phone. But you know what I mean.

From our talks. When we were able to speak face to face.

Watch for that one. The one I told you about. The one under the moon. On blue pine mountain."

To me the "speaking face to face" part seems very significant. And since Frost and Lynch seem to like referencing material from the earlier seasons and the film, I wonder if there is actually a scene where Margeret and Hawk have a conversation. Maybe a moment in season 2 that felt random and unimportant, but now makes sense. But it's hard remembering Season 2, everything is a blur.

I wouldn't even say that. To me, Bad Coop is Cooper. The dark side of Cooper that has fully taken control uncontested. I think that might be what Jeffries was implying.

Yikes. Seeing it like this make him so much more scary. And I am very glad that there still exists a "Good Coop" in the show.

By the way. The log lady scene. It was so heartbreaking, but did it also contain a new clue?

I wonder, is there a scene in season 1 or 2 where Hawk and Margaret have a conversation together? Did they talk about something "under the moon" at one point?

  4. About the talk Jeffreys and Bad Coop had.

    Quote

    Jeffries: "We used to talk."

    Cooper: "Yes, we did."

    Flashback FWWM.
Cooper: "1989. You showed up at FBI headquarters in Philadelphia, and said you met Judy."

    Jeffries: "So you are Cooper."

At first I thought: Is Bad Coop actually our Coop? The way Jeffries said "So you are Cooper." sounded like he was wondering the whole time what kind of Cooper he met in Philadelphia: Original or Doppelgänger. That was a scary moment.

But now when I think about it... I always saw Bad Coop as a being who started existing when he left the Black Lodge by the end of season 2. But maybe, from his perspective, Bad Coop (thinks he) had a whole life as Cooper. He didn't just inherit memories but he believes he experienced them as well.

As I took it to be Albert being a smartarse about the fact that what Gordon wanted to get back to only peripherally involved the wine (to the degree where he probably couldn't name what he was drinking), and Gordon in turn pretending to mishear him.

I found this and the whole scene amazing. To me it felt like Gordon was a teenager with butterflies in his stomach. I expected him to switch to stern FBI mode after the woman left the room, but he still had this stupid grin on his face. He really did manage to loosen up and take a break from work.
His reaction to Alberts and Constances date two episodes earlier is even more wonderful now.

Albert: *lore dumps into camera for solid four minutes*

Cole: Tammy, you're the best in the biz and that's why we need you on this Blue Rose task force to investigate these paranormal happenings.

Tammy: Oh cool I thought that's what I've been doing for the last week and a half but no that's totally fine I'm in *sips wine*

Haha, I had the same thought.

What also confused me (secret history spoilers):

    Spoiler

Wasn't Tammy up to speed with all the Blue Book/Rose stuff when she read Major Briggs dossier? I just finished the book, and this scene felt like the book wasn't canon at all.

Then I thought, what if she will read the dossier after The Return? But then her character in the book sounds out of place as well, especially after Alberts lore dump.

  7. I am reading the Secret History of Twin Peaks right now, and just read the report about

    Spoiler

the three kids that were maybe abducted in the woods by a white beam above them. It was witnessed by Major Milford, and the scene he discribes reminds me of Cole almost getting sucked up by the video effect. (It's on page 138)

I don't know if it that adds to anything, but it made me happy to read a book/TV show connection just two days after I saw the recent episode.

Also I enjoyed this episode a lot! Looking forward listening to the podcass episode now.

To be clear: The topic of rape does not induce eye-rolling. I'm with ya there.

But, the scene is not rape, so what I'm rolling my eyes at are those who are overprescribing the term where it doesn't belong.

We have two people depicted in a pleasant act, and meanwhile there are a bunch of overintellectuals almost literally next to the bed with charts and diagrams screaming "Problematic!  It doesn't matter if you're both enjoying it!  It doesn't matter that you have a long-standing marriage! There are forms to fill out!  Notarizations!  Did you wait 10 minutes after eating?  Cramps!"

    Fricking life is problematic.

    Lynch is problematic, too.

    That's what makes him interesting.

    But this scene?

    Nah.

I find it completely resonable to interpret the act in that scene as rape, you don't have to be mean about that.

  9. I also felt uncomfortable seeing the sex scene. I can see how it it a light hearted, funny scene for people, and I don't judge them for how they view it.

But I must say that I find it unsettling that the topic of rape causes eye-rolling, because we live in a time where rape culture is a thing and where victims constantly have to face people that don't take them seriously or blame them. It is a real thing, and I think it's important to talk about concerns of popular media that has a huge audience.

Again, I completely understand how people can enjoy that scene, and I truly believe that they are level headed and understand the awfulness of sexism, rape culture and all, but I find it wrong to eyeroll at people who have honest problems with this scene.

Just to speculate on the speculation for a moment, I didn't necessarily read the golden orb scene as Laura Palmer being bestowed onto the world. I saw it more as the orb being a symbol of protection, and the woman chose Laura as its destination. Perhaps this is a manifestation of the angel we see in FWWM?

The thing that bothers me the most is that they used her prom photo in that orb. That feels so much out of place to me.

But then again, maybe the person who took the photo was also a supernatural being who jumped into the future to get a proper profile pic for the orb.
