  1. If the GG thread is any indication, there seem to be a lot of us who are either currently involved or interested in being involved in writing about games on a more professional level, so I thought I'd make a thread. Here's my story: I just graduated college, and I want to write about games professionally. I'm a confident writer, I work well under a deadline, and I don't really have any problems motivating myself - but the logistics of freelancing escape me. Like, I know I'm supposed to be making pitches to... an editor? A managing editor? Am I pitching ideas for articles, or am I pitching fully-written pieces? How does that process change if it's an OP/ED? I'm just unclear on the little things, but I don't want to screw that up, because people in the industry have long memories and I don't want to get on anyone's bad side right off the bat. I'm gonna start reading Nathan Meunier's book Up Up Down Down Left Write tonight. Are there any books right off the bat that y'all can recommend? Anyway, let's talk about freelancing here! Share stories, motivate each other, brag about getting published!
  2. Destiny

I got the Stag, Y2 Hawkmoon, the Jade Rabbit, and some off-class chests and gloves. Definitely nothing game-breaking. It's nice to have Hawkmoon again, it was my second exotic ever. :')
  3. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Christ, what stupid names these people choose for their movements.
  4. Destiny

Maybe for PVP? If level advantage is disabled you could still presumably use it.
  5. None of us will ever know.
  6. Sonic Dreams Collection: What Could Have Been

I didn't think I'd enjoy this more than Bubsy 3D: Bubsy Visits the James Turrell Retrospective but I also was not expecting... all of that. I'm so glad these folks are making games.
  7. The International 5 (TI5) - Dota 2

One thing I found myself wanting over and over again was, like... an audio stream, with casters trained to do that kind of thing. Sitting and watching Dota for 8+ hours a day wasn't feasible, but I would have enjoyed something I could take on a walk, or in the car, or what have you. Like sports radio!
  8. The International 5 (TI5) - Dota 2

Yeah, that was... a weird choice. What a series, though. I was in Key Arena for last year's finals, and the atmosphere was so muted - probably because Newbee took three 20-minute games. This year was fucking bonkers, even from home.
  9. Destiny

    I'm....... free...............................................
  10. The International 5 (TI5) - Dota 2

The only thing they're really good at is breaking my heart
  11. The International 5 (TI5) - Dota 2

oh no oh nooo here come the tears oh no oh god
  12. The International 5 (TI5) - Dota 2

Secret just got sent down to the lower bracket by fucking EHOME of all teams. What an upset.
  13. The International 5 (TI5) - Dota 2

One of the commentators mentioned that they're getting DDOSed.
  14. Dota 2 Survey

I play support in shitty pub games because if shit hits the fan, I can just buy sentries, keep vision up, and escape criticism.
  15. Destiny

My girlfriend and I got Gjallarhorn and Icebreaker from the Nightfall, respectively. I think that's the luckiest I'm ever going to be.
  16. Our illicit computer lab game of choice was Soldat, which for me is still so far removed from anything else I consider "gaming" that it occupies a dreamlike quality for me. Did Soldat ever really exist outside of that computer lab? We may never know.
  17. Speaking of old video game controversies:
  18. DOTA 2

Y'all played incredibly, I'm not even mad, it was so much fun to watch!
  19. Destiny

I prefer to play FPS games on consoles for exactly that reason. Evens out the competition curve, lets me feel like I'm not going to get aimbotted for 15 minutes every time I try to PVP. (TF2, I'm looking at you.)
  20. Feminism

Oh eff yeah. Mushrooms and, weirdly, black olives. I had some weird food hangups as a kid that I'm glad to have grown out of.
  21. Star Wars VII - Open spoilers

At the end of the day I think the green screens were the least of the prequel trilogy's problems. All the practical effects in the world couldn't save those moviese from incomprehensible writing, poor directing, boring cinematography, etc, etc, etc.
  22. I would, but I've been on Cactuar since launch and I have a pretty serious group of raiding friends. You know how it is.
  23. TRACKMANIA

It's because they don't actually seem to know what makes Trackmania interesting (that is to say the weird, precious dwindling online community full of absolute maniacs).

Poutine King Bar just took Undead Labs 33 to 4, it was an absolute slaughter. And LoL has to play them next
