  1. When I say that they're more ambitious, I mean in terms of scope. Things like putting golf and tennis games inside the game, or building an extensive cinematography tool into the game. I personally don't care about that stuff, but I do think it's impressive how they keep adding more to the games while increasing the fidelity at the same time. The one way they've dialled things back is by giving you less freedom to use the sandbox systems in the actual missions. That wasn't something that broke the old games though, but it seems like Rocktar doesn't want random systemic crap messing with their c-tier hollywood story.

The thing about those systems is that they're fairly separate from everything else in the world. Even populating GTA, while an impressive feat, especially with how good everything looks, they have fairly basic AI and don't need to exist outside of a certain range of the player. They also don't need to have any interactions past collisions, frightened reactions, and dying. I think the problems Bethesda is running into should definitely be fixed, the big bugs anyways. Game-breaking stuff isn't acceptable. The common jank though, is too risky to deal with.

  2. Yea, it was said that Storm Troopers like Finn were kidnapped from their families and brainwashed into subservience.

So stormtroopers are basically spartans now. Are we going to see some Halo crossover?

Speaking of which, this is one of the more irritating aspects of Finn's character.  Finn could have been a substantive character with a lot of conflicting emotions.  But he was just an incompetent goofball.  What part of the way Finn acts screams "brainwashed storm trooper"?  In the film itself, one of the New Order guys even claims some absurdly low defection rate.  If their brainwash techniques are so damn good, why does Finn appear to be utterly unaffected?

Maybe he'll end up being force sensitive and that somehow makes him different? or it's a very low defection rate, and not a 0% defection rate, so he's a part of the 1% I guess.

  3. I actually rewatched FMA last year, the first time since it aired. It held up really well, although I wasn't as fond of the ending this time around. I remember most people didn't like the divergence from the manga at the end, but back in the day I was totally cool with it.

Still need to watch Brotherhood though.

As for the Ghibli stuff, Whisper of the Heart is my top, in my top three favourite movies ever, anime or non-anime.

I would rather stare at a wall than watch Howl's Moving Castle. The animation is good, but only okay by Ghibli standards. The writing, both plot and dialogue, are garbage. I've found it to be a pretty common favorite among girls though.

  4. Hello, I just want to say Lords Management and video games and see if they will really be replaced by LOMA and video games. Also, is Chris-replying-to-this-thread-semi-regularly-with-generic-welcoming-words a robot? (its still nice even if automated)

Yes, but that's just because Chris has always been a robot.

  5.

Nothing can be worse than Sucker Punch.

I actually liked SuckerPunch as a B... maybe C movie.

I don't know if you guys have seen the Mega 64's DBZ: Frieza Saga in 5 minutes video, but it's great. I love the intentionally bad low budget special effects.

  6. There are a lot of characters, but none of them seem like people. I found it really hard to follow. Like I'm not sure why anyone is doing anything they're doing, and what/if there are consequences for anything. It just seems like... things happen.

  7. Decided to drop Kekkai Sensen. I'm not sure that show actually has characters and a story >_>

On the positive side, I picked up Ore Monogatari and am really enjoying it. That show is so full of happy and goodness, my god!

  8. There's also the "good father" trend with black characters you see a lot in anime that totally fits with Picollo. He's an excellent father to Gohan, and seems more attentive to him than Goku, taking care of him while Daddy is away at work.

  9. Awesome! That's my friend Geoff's channel! He quit his games journalism job to go full time into doing his own thing and obviously it's growing. He does some really incredible break downs.

  10. I'm really surprised about all of this response to Alex. I mean, I'm not, because people have trouble liking Alex, but I didn't think he was that negative about the mice thing. He had his position and he admitted that it's "not you, it's me". He didn't willingly state his position more than once, but Vinny and Austin kept reacting to his facial expressions, thus forcing him to restate his opinion. I never felt that he was stomping on their fun talking about the mice. He just reacted to the conversation the way most people would to watching two people discuss Monster Hunter or EVE.

  11. I would listen to 100% more bombcasts if they were about 60% shorter.

I tend to treat them more like radio nowadays, dip in and out over the course of the podcast, especially when I'm working. The Bombcast replaced Weekend Confirmed for me, I like it but miss the production Garnett Lee did on Weekend Confirmed. That was still quite long at 2 hours though.

    I wish they were longer...

  12. Similar to others I tried some GB and just didn't enjoy it. It felt broy to me. But that doesn't mean it was full of jocks or rife with misogyny.

It's more that it was dudes sitting around, talking typical immature dude stuff and not really thinking critically about their thoughts or experiences. GB is just the personalities stating how they feel and joking around with each other. The Thumbs can be casual and off the cuff with dumb jokes and still have real considered opinions so that they don't have the same alienating normative views.

I feel like GB is actually quite similar to Thumbs in how they're jokey, go off topic, but have insightful talks. The main difference is that IT tries to make sure there's some in every episode, while GB is more "Let's see what happens!". Jeff has had some incredibly insightful thoughts on the industry, which I'm always in awe of how much he knows/retains.

When it comes down to it though, we're lucky to have and have had so many really good podcasts about our medium of choice.
