  1. Yeah, I actually got a headache from playing this game. I never get motion sick, so I think something about the visuals and audio plays hell with my brain. Other than that I was liking the game a lot, but I don't want to play it at all any more.

  2. I don't have a very high adaptability, but apparently upping it a lot makes the combat basically become Dark Souls 1-like again. At least that's what I've heard on other parts of the internet.

I'm feeling pretty powerful with my build. I have high Intelligence and Attunement, and just enough Strength and Dex to weild the fire longsword and Drangelic shield, for the 100% block. I either zap everyone with magic, or if they are resistance to it I fire longsword them to death. I also have the basic daggar equipped, because it can still 1 hit backstab a lot of enemies.

  3. @JBoyega has got a verified twitter account and yet only 3500 followers, I though you had to get around 50,000 followers before twitter recognised you. THEY MUST HAVE KNOWN. watch his twitter followers sky rocket

I've seen people with 10k and less have verified accounts. Who knows how that system works.

Also THIS CAST IS FUCKING STACKED. I don't want to get to hyped for this movie, but the idea of two of the Please Mr. Kennedy singers in the new Star Wars movie is so awesome. Why must expectations always be raised?

  4. You can get that ring by

Burning a bonfire aesthetic in that area, since it respawns the chest, but it has other effects as well

    Ah, thanks!

One thing that has bugged me about both Dark Souls games is when the path ahead is unclear. Like you pick up a key and have no idea what door it goes to. Or, a DK2 example:

The entrance to the Huntsmans Copse being the switch right off of Mejula. I had passed that point so long ago I had completely forgotten it, and I never go through that passageway any more because I just use bonfires if I'm traveling to a new major area. I suppose if I thought about it I would have realized I didn't have a boss soul from the Heide Tower area, but I think I just assumed it was just a pass through to the Lost Sinner. Now I'm realizing that guy at the monument was talking about it, but I just assumed he was talking about the gate levers. Oh well. I think I'm just made because I feel like I should have figured it out, but I doubt I would have. I'm dumb.

  5. It seems like the early game can vary in difficulty a lot depending on starting class, where you choose to go (not having the Ring of Binding in Lost Bastille makes it pretty rough) and your choice of gear. For me it started off being tougher than Dark Souls, for a while after that it got easier as I was clearing out areas I should've been in earlier, but now that I think I'm in the midgame it feels harder than Dark Souls again. It doesn't seem like you can overlevel as much (post Anor Londo you become overpowered IMO), because the dimishing returns on health and stamina come earlier. I guess I haven't hit roadblocks as big as the standout ones in Dark Souls, but the original game was actually the one where I beat most of the bosses in one or two tries. This game has a more consistent level of challenge I think. I don't know if the champion's covenant actually makes a noticeable difference, but so far I'm finding it just challenging enough.

I overlooked the vitality stat for a long time, so I went shirtless to keep my equip load down. Now I've discovered that armor actually gives a decent amount of damage mitigation (it scales too!) and I don't know why I ignored poise for so long.

I just looked up the Ring of Binding and realized I destroyed that chest and got rubble out of it. Before I knew that destroying chests did that. Silly me!

Personally, I felt like the beginning of this game was really difficult. Maybe I was just finding my Dark Souls feet again, or I was an underpowered sorcerer, but I definitely died a lot at first. Now I've gotten in a much better grove, and even killed a few bosses first try.

  6. Of the half dozen or so areas i've seen in the game so far, No Man's Wharf has been my favorite.

What do i need to have the guy on the docks be willing to talk to me? Also, the guy you can sell junk items to disappeared when i returned to the area after a visit back to Majula, does he show up in Majula like a lot of the other NPC's seem to?

He's a sorcery dealer, so I'm guessing a high intelligence? He talked to me right away, and I'm doing sorcery.

Not sure about the guy that disappeared. I haven't seen him in Majula, and I sold a bunch to him, but haven't checked back.

  7. I joined the Blue Sentinels, and wow is that fun. I've never been one to invade people's games in Dark Souls, but I love the feeling of getting called on to protect a newer player. The fact that I get humanity and souls each time it happens only makes it all the better.

Also, I'm pretty glad to be leaving No Man's Wharf. That place creeped me out. Then again, this is Dark Souls, so I'm sure whatever's next won't be any better.

I was thinking about joining that covenant, seems like a cool concept. I'm kind of liking not getting invaded very much at all my first playthrough, though.

  8. I think the early level design (the forest, and the tower area, all I've played) is really great. Dense, with tons to discover. I've spent hours just running around looking for things.

Dark Souls 1 had really good early level design, but I think the areas leading to the final four bosses are all pretty universally bad, and scrap most of what makes the beginning so much fun. Instead of twisty, secret filled vertical areas they become straightforward areas that have some sort of gimmick to make them more difficult. Dark Souls 1 is still one of my favorite games of all time, but the second half of the game is a pretty big drop in quality, in my opinion.

  9. You use Human Effigies from your inventory to become human, don't burn them in a bonfire (a bunch of people wasted Effigies not realizing this).

Holy shit, thank you. I knew the human effigies had to turn you human from the stuff at the beginning, but I didn't think to use them from my inventory. I burnt one at a bonfire, say it said "Invading is blocked" or whatever, and thought I had just figured wrong.

  10. I don't think that puzzle is as bad as some of the others in the game (like the TUMBLER ONE!!! or kitty hat day, which I think is just not clear), but I do think they could have clarified the draining visually (is there a wet spot where the drain is after you've used the water?) or even had Manny say "Looks like the water is all going to the center of the room."

  11. First a roundabount hint to where you're stuck, and the in game hint you're missing regarding the puzzle:

Check out the sprinkler some more. Does that clue you in on anything?

Glad you're liking Year Three. That's interesting, because it's actually my least favorite year (though I obviously love the whole game). I can't argue with the parts you like about it, though. Chepito, Domino, the Angelitos ("check out my bone saw!"). Specifically, the way Chepito says "it's a BUST ALL!" has stuck in my head for the last 15ish years. I don't know why.

  12. The religion thing is something that always fascinated me about D&D - in a world where praying to you God can give you material and immediate benefits, why would you ever not be religious? Like you said, it basically flips the current real-world view on religion. On planet Earth, religion is a matter of faith. But if your faith is confirmed by hard fact, the atheists out there are maybe representing their faith that there is nothing? or unwillingness to devote their life to one thing, even if you could literally talk to a diety? It's a weird kind of contradictory view.
