  1. Pharah rockets dont do a whole lot of damage, but with direct hits & (lucky) headshot will certainly start getting kills.  It is more of a sustainable damage & coupled with a teammate on the ground can start doing work to the squishiers.  dont expect to take down a Reinhardt shield anytime soon though

I had a really good time with some Thumbs last night on PC, it was the first time I was on a team with coordinated team talk - calling out flanking people, prioritizing targets, asking for heals or rez, we mostly had great success.  Also talking about counters or hero swaps out-loud made for a more dynamic game and much more enjoyable than pubs where someone will play reaper or widowmaker the whole time - no matter the match-up.

I'm sure its artificial - and actually finally coordinate, counter pick, and have ults, but feels like a rubber-band mechanic at the end of a match that somehow other team who was getting rolled shows up to cap a point and extend the match.

  2. ty Sam & Clyde for feedback.  I play at night while my child and wife are usually 1 room away and sleeping so sound leak is bad news.  Also comfort is important since when i do find time to sit down...its usually 2-4hrs at a clip (then need days to recover from lack of sleep...holy hell do i feel old)

Logitech G35 & G930 are notoriously cheap feeling - especially the G930 - but i haven't had any issue with things breaking...but i put them back in a cubby hole each time and generally keep them from accidental drops or sitting.

All reviews say the G633/G933 are much better builds - but the G633 has a solid cord so is prone to kinks and tangle.  (reading that wirecutter review they indicate it feels flimsier...so who knows)

this generally sucks, maybe i'll get another g35 and be boring for another 5yrs

*last question - on those Senheiser Game One's - i get a lot of background noise from my sugar glider's cage directly behind me.  is it a lot of noticeable sound? or more like the loud ringing of a phone / angry spouse

  3. sorry for double post  but totally unrelated to video cards -

I recently got forced into a new PC gaming headset - my Logitech G35 is getting USB errors on any port i try it on..i think the cat bit the wire and finally shorted it out

I am looking at G633 or G933 just because logitech has always been reliable.  Does anyone have any experience in the Siberia line from SteelSeries (staying <$200) or Razer headsets.  I am seeing a lot of buzz about the HyperX brand...but never seen any commentary

I know there are a lot of amazing audiophile headphones out there but i think I'm sticking to the "gaming style" - wireless is not a must...but if its wired needs to have a cloth/braided cord, I like the 7.1 surround effect too, and a good built in (yet hide-able) mic is necessary.

  4. AMD is doing their release/announce at Computex June 1

some other info has dropped -

    http://techfrag.com/2016/05/19/amd-polaris-10-11-specs-hit-web-8-gb-gddr5x-memory-clocked-7-gbps/

im going to hold my purchase till some real comparisons are made between the 1080/1070 VS the new Polaris 11/10 cards - and then make a selection.  It is extremely tempting to get a 1080 on order and dump these AMD 6850 power suckers - but hoping patience will pay off

  5. Yeah some random guy was talking in one of my games. I was like NOPE, couldn't find a why to silence him, had to go into settings and turn voice chat off.

Someone else noted this, but default keyboard command is P and pulls up a menu to mute individual people, leave channel, or handle your group. Click the headphone icon and mutes all the jerks

The text is sort of silly, I had one person complain no one was on the print...but the advantage of a game like this is only 5sec to type in respawn, otherwise typing keeps you standing still and open to a snipe - so I think most people skip the typing to actively play

  6. bcmn, that sucks - I know the feeling of drifting from friends for sure. Not easy to deal with! Are you in the Bay Area?

I'm a long time thumbs listener living in Oakland. Does anyone else in the forum live in the Bay Area? I'd love to do an area meetup. I love Idle Thumbs, its brand of smart humor and earnest discussion. Would like to make some other gamer friends in the area - seems like its hard to meet anyone who is into games here since it's such a hiking/camping/outdoors crowd! Plus I don't work in tech...

Perhaps check out the Idle Map - https://www.idlethumbs.net/forums/topic/9871-where-in-the-world-idle-thumbs-map/

There are more SF residents than showing, and actually some really rad folks in Davis CA that had done some meet-ups in the past.  Necro that thread and meet fun folks

  7. snapchat is weird, youths are using it for a texting/messenger tool, the story streams replace vines & frequent fb/twitter updates, and frequent photo taking of non-important whatevers.

Someone mentioned it above, it acts more like a light-weight photo app because it doesnt stick around,  you can take a picture of a dumb thing - send it to your friends and goes away - dont need to upload to a service w/title, comment, or hash tags.  You can also download your own photo/drawing - so even if you manage to make/snap something neat doesnt mean it'll be lost to the void

With that i use it to mostly pictures of my kid with the daily face filters, me face swapped with the kid, or cat related.  Or something stupid i find in the world - either captioned or drawn on.

I dont use the story stream, but follow several news/media outlets - including the White House (one of my favorites) - which are pretty neat and nice ways to get 10sec blips on topics, events, etc.

  8. im very interested in hearing opinions about SF0 - there are many mixed reviews - including an editorial about the controls killing the fun in the game and sending the wiiU back to its original release gimmick as if no one has iterated & improved on it over the last few years.

i want this game to be great, but if its as bad with the controls as others are reporting it'll be a "Skip"

  9. Nexus5 still a great phone if you can get your hands on one for cheap.  it's probably a little slow by todays standard - especially compared to the 5x but should be able to get an unlocked in decent shape on for <$150 on ebay or looks like new on amazon for $200

No bloatware, sleek design, rad matte rubber back, and it runs hearthstone just fine.

As others have mentioned above - most of android bloatware comes from the manufacturer or carrier...getting a google phone (Nexus line) is a pretty good way to avoid a lot of that...or just jailbreak it - but that affects service/warranty sometimes.  Being said - getting a new phone the nexus 5x or 6p are the new models that got fairly strong reviews...just the price is absurd compared to previous nexus devices - but not as absurd as an equivalent samsung

I'm not trolling or trying to start a firestorm but - if you are using for mostly emails and typing dont count out a Blackberry.  the Z30 is an upgrade of my favorite phone in the last few years the "z10".  The interface is great for quick back and forth to mailbox - and now they integrated the amazon appstore.  I also argue the in-line suggestive type is the best keyboard ive used to date (on a touch screen).

  10. I'd think yes, but all budget dependent.

DDR 4 means a z170 board, skylake chip, etc.

I regret pulling the trigger a little impulsively last summer and got the 4970k i7 and z97 board. Still going to be fine for a while, but may keep me from that vr life down the road.

There are some z170 boards that take the new chipsets but ddr3 - but I don't think any that are dual compliant

  11. I think this game is rad, I've only put in 90 minutes on a laptop, low volume, and and my wife's crappy mouse(rubber pads don't slide)

Being said can't wait to put on big screen with a proper controller with the sound humming the walls

Sclpls pretty much nails the Zelda/DS comparisons.

Ive had mild problems with the dash, I think I am expecting more of a Bastion roll and it's much slower animation though and the cursor for direction is less obvious and blends more. Another gold bitcoin quadrant and I'll get the sword dash, thatll fix it all up

I've yet to encounter any bugs but did see in kick-starter newsletter they were already pushing out a patch or two for new bugs that their small test team didn't drum up.

Re map reading - it seems the overworld map is semi location exact. Your character moves some every few screens - then flipping to the wire map has thin lines indicating entry points/elevators and connected rooms. The visual is a little jarring at first but think works great for so much info in such cramped space

I also creeped ahead, I like the indistinguishable achievos, obviously progress related, few collect them all's, and a no-death one! There are some physical puzzles that seem like major hurdles against that...sliding blocks, falling tiles, etc

Anyways, I like it - not a lot yet; but pending my proper tools after vacation it may be better

  12. very unfortunate.  i presume you got a police report reporting fault, etc.  Unfortunately the inconvenience of getting hit is incredible - you have to file the claim, you need to get the estimate, not have your vehicle for X days, and all that scheduling involved.

Granted on the other side - the person at fault gets a ticket, potential rate hike or drop of coverage, and all the above BS

i was rear-ended last fall and only had bumper damage...still a quick 1k fix for the poor gal who i think looked down to light her cigarette.  It was on a known slow & frequent stop on-ramp - so should have probably waited till a complete stop before looking down.

I actually had a very good experience working with the other insurance company (state farm) and made my (allstate) feel like a bunch of fools.  I've known my agent for going on 15yrs...so there is that..

But the people around her in the giant machine that is a nation wide insurance company seem like fools.  I am sure they have dozens of integrated systems and have people in call centers all over the states...which just creates more havoc and no one seems to have your best interest in mind

Whereas the Statefarm claim i made was with a local office; took care of my quote, rental, and pick up.

Grass is always greener i guess?

  13. Pulled some beginner luck last night and grabbed a pretty decent score.  I presume it'll get crushed as the event goes by...and i dont improve much.  But it was great fun, yay pinball!!

clyde - when you get CINDY the small bumpers in the middle of the field get red dots and need to get hit for a mutliplier...pretty tough location - need to almost get a lazy hit from the upper right flipper

I also got kaboom a few times and Cindy just ate it on the dynamite.  I also struggle with the WANTED mode, but probably also relates directly to my skill level

  14. anyone with thoughts to the next generation of nvidia/amd cards? The latest articles i can find talk about 2nd half of 2016, but no hard release dates yet

I am ready to dump my 6850's (xfired like a fool) - and am ready to also switch to the Nvidia train, it is The Way Its Meant To Be Played™

The price range in the mid 300's, which in current gen is the 970 model.  Presumably the next generation will have a similar tier of pricing, that 980 and TI tier is going to be very hard to fit in budgets

  15. I am on the fence about twilight princess, it's only 10yrs out and not much added to the changed in the game besides hard mode and an endless dungeon as the boring wolf for combat

Polygons review and overview show fairly well sold me that need to probably not drop the money just now

Save for that star fox turret game!

  16. im not sure another thread to drop this into -

i need to ask some help of anyone with adobe illustrator cc, a little bit of time, and a generally strong computer want to assist me combine some files that arent cooperating in my print & graphic software at work

drop me a pm and i'll explain a little more detail, share files, and can walk through the process over dischord, skype, gchat, or whatever preferred telecommunication method

    ty talk to anyone soon

  17. Sunless sea free weekend had the opposite effect, i loved it and the whole bundle @ $8 to get SS is 11% cheaper than even the steam sale that weekend - trine, else.heart.break, and never alone are just bonuses to me

i got this bundle yesterday and the weekly bundle for Speedrunners and  and another Grim key @$3 (Bundle Expires 2/25/16)

  18. so, maybe someone can direct me to an overview of this game.  you are a guy who goes out into NYC and tries to reclaim objectives to bring order to the situation, fine...but the dark zone is the really bad areas that you need to gear up to get into?  And this can be completed solo or in a team i presume...maybe dark zone needs a team (raid esque?)

Apparently my recently upgrade PC is still not strong enough...i was able to run on all Low settings; but i think its time to start shopping a new video card (x2 6750's arent cutting it)
