You're all terrible, terrible people.
I am sad you would make such a blanket statement about everybody like that.
-
I appreciate this thread.
Anybody who is anybody should.
-
You probably shouldn't have started this thread without mentioning anybody in the first post
I was hoping nobody would notice. Figures somebody would.
-
nobody in particular, really
Nobody, but especially somebody.
-
Somebody really wanted this thread started, but nobody took action so I did it for everybody.

This thread is now about ethics in video-games journalism, so it should probably be closed.

Hitman talk has convinced me to buy it sooner rather than later. Just curious if anyone knows: if you buy the intro pack, does price of it with the upgrade pack work out to being the same as just buying the full game to begin with?
"A new Intro Pack now contains Prologue and Paris levels and will release at the new price of $15 or the regional equivalent. Each subsequent location will be priced at $10 as an add-on item to the Intro Pack.
Alternatively, those who purchase the Intro Pack can upgrade to the full game with the $50 Upgrade Pack.
Players can also buy the full game and upcoming content for $60 up front. This includes all of the 2016 content as it’s released along with all live and bonus content. A disc version of Hitman will ship at the end of 2016."
Looks like its $5 more to buy the intro pack and then upgrade.

Has anyone thought about how the episodic nature of the new Hitman (game? series?) fits into the "lean startup" model? What I mean is, IO has acknowledged that the next levels are still under production, so surely they're waiting on feedback about the first, and will iterate on their ideas / concepts moving forward in the campaign. I would be surprised (and a little disappointed) if there weren't some major risks taken in the next couple of releases, to see what really jived with players, everything from combat systems to menu design. All that being said, the iterative process really does put the onus on the final product, in this case, the campaign finale, and a flop there could mean bad news (although they would assumedly have raked in the profits from the previous four or however-many levels.)
Not that any of this is a bad thing, just an observation. Do you think that any of this makes sense? Game companies are notoriously bad at player feedback, and I personally don't know IO's reputation in that regard very well.
Next level is being released on the 26th. I hope they pay attention to players about this stuff, but who knows. It also might take a few levels before changes start showing up. I imagine the Italy level was mostly done by the time Paris was released. We have seen a lot less of Morocco and whatever the airport looking level is.

is it too late to say i meant it figuratively?? D: D:
All pledges made on internet forums are binding contracts.

When Nick failed the mission, it was because he was playing an escalation mission instead of the main one. Escalation missions have specific requirements for what you are wearing or how you kill a target which is why you fail immediately for doing it wrong.
Most hitman levels run without you. The Paris level will run till 'completion' if you let it. There have been a few missions in previous games that will actually fail if you let them run long enough. There was a mission in Blood Money where you are tasked with taking out three agents of a competing assassination agency and saving a government official from them. If you don't stop the payment briefcase from getting to them you have to move quickly to stop the assassination from happening. I am pretty sure there were levels where targets would leave eventually if you let it run long enough.

I love this guy, he makes some great weird stuff. -
So, I was trying to find something somewhere that did a deep dive into Clinton's media coverage over lunch today. I hear a lot of Sanders supporters talk about how the media loves Hillary so much, and I've never really gotten that impression but didn't have data to back it up.
The best I could come up with was a 538 piece from September that shows overwhelmingly negative coverage of Clinton's campaign. Does the claim that Clinton has disproportionately positive coverage have any real support, or is it just your typical self-reinforcing anti-establishmentarian mindset?
I think it's standard confirmation bias, people remember the things that make them angry so they have a skewed view of the reporting.
Early on the issue was Sanders wasn't getting much coverage, but now I think its probably fine. The bigger issue is how trapped the media is by the two party narrative, there are so few stories that talk about issues outside of each parties talking points.

This recipe turned out well, aside from two mentions of mushrooms that are not listed in the ingredient list.

So, I had a random thought. I did ask Austin Walker for his opinion but he ignored me (which is fine) and I joked at Chris Remo about it on twitter.
Do people have thoughts about how Germans and Russians are represented in video games?
For context: I'm originally from Ukraine and live in Germany at the moment.
Nationalities representation in games aligns with pretty much with the representation of any other group, lazy writers use stereotypes.

I guess this is 99% of my problem. I have literally no idea what an index fund is, or how to invest in it. Nor do I know what a 401K is. I don't even know if they're solely american things. The worst part is reading about it all. It's so tedious, there are so many rules and exceptions. Bleh.
Index funds are essentially betting that the stock market in general will do well. Usually its buying shares in the top companies on the market. If you ever hear people talking about the S&P 500, that is an index fund.
here is the episode if you are interested. http://www.npr.org/sections/money/2016/03/04/469247400/episode-688-brilliant-vs-boring

I liked that Oculus sent out a bunch of near min spec pcs to test it with, and GB are using them here. I am encouraged that the experience seems smooth even there, for the most part.
I think that the "tabletop" experience of e.g. Lucky's Tale and Fly to Kuma seems is cool, and am definitely interested in games like that. Also, I really liked Darknet, a 3D puzzle game hacking game that seems very 90's cyberpunk.
The guys didn't like Radial-G too much, especially since it was the game that made them most nauseous: this might be alleviated by higher spec rigs. Radial-G looks like a spiritual successor to F-Zero, and I am very interested, especially since other people have reported a very smooth experience.
Being an Elite Dangerous nut, I will definitely get one of the two pc HMDs. However, I am worried about the restricted field of view on display. I hope this is due to some bug that can be fixed.
One of the many VR articles I read over the last couple of days involved one of the Adr1ft devs saying that it was too late to add Touch support for that game, but they were looking at it for their next game; this could be why it isn't being ported to Vive any more.
You can use the vive sitting down with a controller, so not sure why touch would be an issue. I think it has more to do with Rift trying to lock down exclusives than anything.

I want to take control of my money, but I have no idea what to do. I spent about an hour today reading about ISAs cash/stocks and shares, but it's so complicated and so boring.
Leaving my money in an account with basically no interest is pretty much just losing money for me. I wish there was something or someone who could just say "This account is what you want and this is why. Do it."
There was recently an episode of planet money about how Index funds are a better investment than picking stocks. Might be worth looking into.
