I don't like how I've managed to turn this into "other podcasts you don't like" thread.
Any good recommendations? I really like history podcasts, mainly based off The History of Rome and The Ancient World, both of which were great.
In Our Time is my favorite history podcast. It has the same host with a different panel of experts depending on topic. One of my favorite parts is that the podcast always ends with an intern coming in to ask if they want tea. Its the most British thing ever and I love it. Reposting the list of all the podcasts I and a few friends listen to.

That didn't seem to last long. It looks like he's already considering Trump if he just apologizes about what he said about veterans earlier. Paul Ryan and the rest of the Republican party look like they're getting ready to endorse him too.
Is anyone else getting anxiety about this election? I know Hillary polls better than him in most polls but it's scary to me that she's only like 5-6 points above him. I don't even know how it's that close.
I am extremely worried, she has really high unfavorables and a past of scandals both real and imagined. The wrong piece of news at the wrong time could flip this election.

I had the issue with Mystery Show that 1) the presenter's lisp was crazy distracting and 2) she would talk to random people who'd tell her their life story that had nothing to do with the episode. I found that so jarring that it just seemed fake.
It probably isn't fake, and some people are compelled to tell anyone with a microphone their story, but it still had nothing to do with the main show.
Podcaster voice being annoying has turned me off several casts I would probably like. I am not going to listen to an annoying voice for an hour.

Good article on singularity. https://aeon.co/essays/true-ai-is-both-logically-possible-and-utterly-implausible
"We have no idea how we might begin to engineer it, not least because we have very little understanding of how our own brains and intelligence work."
So much this.

That was unexpected.... specially coming this year...
Anyway, the "formation" feature looks curious, much of the congestion in Civ V was caused by the map begin smaller that the scale needed to feature a large number of units. I am not sure how moving several of them at the same time and plus terrain will work out.
It sounds like they will stack actually, but only the same units and a limited number. I wonder if the new city stuff will be more or less tedious than late game city building in 5

Civ 6 announced: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2016/05/11/civilization-vi-details/
Doesn't sound like they are fixing any of the micromanagement tedium from 5

Yes, as far as I can tell you can form alliances or federations without vassalizing other empires.
I was surprisingly super conflicted internally at taking out what amount to Space Barbarians that were keeping my science ships from sciencing because my race were xenophiles. I eventually human'd up and did it.
It's unclear (and kind of fun) to know how or when I'll run into other people's problems. I was able to research a fancy power generator that needed a strategic resource that I happily discovered on a planet where I already had a mine. I only have 3 colonized worlds right now. I don't know if that's fast or slow for where I am. I don't know when I'll get the option to terraform or research colonizing other worlds. I'm researching a rare technology that is taking 4x as long as any other technologies I had the ability to research, and I don't even know how beneficial it'll end up being.
Can you colonize planets that are outside your borders? If not, is the only way to expand (peacefully) either building frontier outposts or the slow creeping drip of influence ala Civ culture?
You can colonize and build frontier outposts outside your borders.

The patch broke my save, couldn't zoom out past the sun. Damn that game was going well.

Haha, yes, never piss off a fallen empire. I love that they exist though, as something that you can't immediately steamroll through in early or mid game.
Turns out playing as a slave owning, repulsive, xenophobe who just conquered another empire makes your neighbors nervous. Who knew?
-
I have gotten steamrolled twice trying to be a conqueror. The first time I think I might have declared war on a fallen empire accidentally, the second time one declared war on me. Time to start a third game as a friendlier race I think.

I wish there was more discussion about how this game stacks up against Master of Orion, Galactic Civilizations etc. instead of focusing on how it compares to other Paradox games.
Good episode though. -
Per RPS: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2016/05/09/stellaris-review-pc/
I told Austin that I found CK2 too much but I "got" EU 4, and asked if it's a space game I could get into. He said "It's way more EU 2 than CK2 and also not as complex".
That could be an unfortunate or damning statement for some, but for you and me I think it's a positive message.
In a lot of 4X games complexity translates to lots of micro, I hate micro, so YAY!

Up to 32 person multiplayer, one computer per player. How stable it is, I guess we'll see.
Edit: For those folks in applicable time zones, you can initiate downloads from your web browser as long as you have Steam running at home. I'm looking forward to having the game already installed when I walk in the door after work.
Edit2: Download should be available at 18:00 CEST, which I think is 1pm Eastern, 10am Pacific.
How big of a download is it?

Good interview with the creators of Oglaf -
So far all previous attempts to play a Paradox strategy title (namely CK2) had me bounce off the interface so hard I'm currently accelerating past Jupiter. Possibly.
However I've pre-ordered Stellaris after watching the increasingly seminal "All Hail Blorg" series of you tube videos paradox have done leading up to release. That has taught me a great deal about playing the game - I hope. The interface certainly looks a lot more user friendly, and the systems felt fairly intuitive. I'll let you know what it's really like once I've got it downloaded and installed.

"As for Stellaris, the complexity falls somewhere in between Civilization and Crusader Kings. Luckily, it has a brilliant tutorial approach that is sure to help newbies and veterans alike get acclimated to the various systems at play. Rather than have a dedicated tutorial option, where players go through a stilted and guided version of the game, Paradox has integrated the tutorial into the main game."

I think that's a pretty low bar when phrased that way.

Exactly, it could be anywhere from one less menu that CK2 to an actually accessible game.
-
They have talked about this being their most accessible game ever, but until I actually play it I don't really know what that means.

He made another one

I was at Festival of Nations teaching children about Krampus. First time I have ever worn Tracht. It was a lot of fun.

I appreciate your occasionally non-stealthy approach. I want to start intentionally using some of the "loud" items rather than just pulling them out in a desperate attempt to salvage a run gone bad.
I am a huge fan of setting something up to kill them when I am not around/in the same room, explosives are often an easy way to do that.

I've definitely been enjoying it too, and I really like reading the methods you used which were pretty different from mine.
For Paris (which went pretty well):
I grabbed a stylist outfit and used that to get into the basement where I found the recipe for the first target's favorite drink. I got a waiter's outfit, mixed the drink and added a little rat poison to get him to run to the nearest bathroom where I conveniently was waiting for him. One target down. Then I took Helmut Krueger's outfit (never did find where to get the makeup) and wandered upstairs. I used the second target's laptop to disrupt the auction. While the system was down she wandered off by herself and I was able to take her out. Then I took a guard's outfit and wandered out through the front door.
For Sapienza (which was a bungling shitty hitman misadventure, but super fun in its own way):
I found the flower delivery van crashed to the left of the mansion. I grabbed some flower and a costume which got me inside. I set the flowers on the target's mother's grave and hid behind it while I waited for him to show up. He did, and sent his bodyguard away, making it pretty easy to take him out. Then I grabbed a guard outfit, found a keycard and a scientist outfit and from there it was pretty easy to get into the lab. I destroyed the virus using the rats and the computer as distractions and prepared to make my escape. Only then did I realize that I had forgotten about the second target. I started heading upstairs to find her, only to realize that she had just walked right by me. There wasn't anyone around so I grabbed her, didn't bother to hide the body, and ran like hell for the sea plane.
Paris
Lured a guard into a bathroom with an overflowing sink. Stumbled upon the Sheik's room and got that disguise. Went to the basement got the waiter disguise and drink recipe. Poisoned and fiber wired the guy. Then got the Sheik costume again and went to the top floor. Couldn't figure out how to get the woman alone so I stood against a wall behind where she takes a drink and shot her out in the open. Then sprinted like a fool to the front entrance.
Sapienza
After wandering around a lot. I got a guard outfit. Found a lab entrance and sabotaged a circuit box to get a scientist outfit. Moved quickly into the isolation unit. Incapacitated two scientists in there, overheated the sample. Then subdued a third scientist on my way out. Changed into the guard costume but was seen leaving the lab area. Ran around for a bit, found the explosive golf ball and my remote explosive. Then found a gardener outfit somewhere. entered the grounds and got the golf ball into the guys bucket. Got a housekeeping outfit, lured a guard with an overflowing sink. (see a pattern?) to get to the top floor. Saw that the woman went to a specific filing cabinet, so after she left placed my remote bomb there and blew her up when she returned. Ran to the VW beetle and sped off.

Finally saw The Force Awakens I wasn't expecting anything great, but was surprised how much little things like characters acting dumb and saying dumb things would bug me. Maybe don't tell every person you have a map to Luke Skywalker? Also fast cuts need to DIAF. Just do a long shot, you don't need to jump around that much in a two person fight scene.
There were also way too many scenes that were, this will look cool vs. this makes any kind of sense. I think I should stick to movies with smaller stakes, large stake ones just seem ridiculous to me now. -
I wouldn't say it was a shameless plug, more of a weird joke that Hitman games would exist within the fictional Hitman world. Also, Hitman Sniper Challenge was okay!
In the first movie some kids were playing the most recent game at the time. I assume this happened in the new one as well

Personally, if you're trying to do everything perfectly sneaky, I think you should use everything you have at your disposal. Absolution had no mid-section save function, and that led to me spending upwards of 2 hours on gameplay segments that lasted about 3-5 minutes when finally completed correctly.
It's hard enough puzzling things out and executing them, I don't think anyone would think less of you.
I'm sure a lot of people like to play things out, but I always play these games on the highest difficulty so I can basically guarantee that I couldn't get out of a fight alive if I wanted to. But that's just the way I personally want to feel in most stealth games.
I save scum a lot, I don't want a silly mistake to send me back to the start. Once I have a good feeling for a level I will usually forget to save, but I dont want to keep failing while I am still learning the ropes.
New people: Read this, say hi.

It's ok I actively dislike the game and they haven't run me out of town yet.
