  1. I kinda agree with you, and I'm not going to force you to go back to it, but Blood Dragon is more varied than you think.

The variety in the gameplay is left up to you - do you sneak into the base, silently killing the guards, or do you lure a huge neon t-rex that shoots friggin' laser beams into the base to do the hard work for you? Unlike Far Cry, in Blood Dragon you're seriously overpowered, so it's viable to try different strategies, even go in all guns blazing if you want. Try something different every time!

It is perhaps too easy to get stuck in a single style of play, but it's totally possible to switch things up without making the game too hard. Maybe the designers needed to find ways to encourage you to try new approaches (outside of the missions - often you'd have a restriction like enforced stealth for hostage rescue, or have to go in shooting inside an underground facility).

(I really enjoyed Blood Dragon, as you can guess)

Blood Dragon forced me to change up my tactics. In FC3 I cleared almost every outpost by sniping, but the Blood Dragon outposts had high walls an were rarely near a hill or mountain that would let me see inside. I had to figure out the melee and stealth systems I had previously neglected.

  2. I guess the interesting thing with regard to the Supreme Court is the Constitution doesn't specify the number of Justices that are supposed to make it up. So if the Senate doesn't want to appoint more Justices they are well within their right to do that since there's nothing special about having nine Justices. Kinda weird how permissive the Constitution is of allowing behavior that would generate a constitutional crisis though.

Many parts were deliberately vague, I think there is a lot of overestimation of how smart the founders were or how much foresight they put into the constitution.

  3. Dont be surprised if its vacant even after hillary wins. They will fight on this long and hard. Also very likely ginsberg resigns in the next 4 years, she is quite old so the longer the GOP can delay that the better for them

  4. I tried so hard to love The Witcher 3 on the Xbox One, but I couldn't.  It's an immaculately crafted game with meaningful dialogue, quests, and environments, but I just wasn't having a lick of fun with it by the end.  Crafting and alchemy were too complex for my tastes, inventory management was a pain, and replenishing potions by drinking alcohol is hilariously and stupidly arcane.

It's a terrific game that I have absolutely zero desire to play.  I just wish that I'd realized that sooner than 48 hours in.

This happened to me, plus I wasn't enjoying the story or combat. Sometimes I just have to accept that a game isn't for me.

  5. I hit level 9 on my first time through. I thought it must be some kind of mistake.

I think its related to there being four targets who can be hard to take out without using an opportunity. The only one I didn't take out via an opportunity in my first play through was because I had killed so guards and hidden their bodies so the target was just looking away from me all alone. Not going to let that chance pass :)

  6. 1) I haven't played in VR, but Wookie has? I've heard generally good things.

    2) It's as grindy as you want it to be. I log in from time to time, do a little exploring, trading, combat, missions, mining. The only progressions are 1) Getting bigger ships and 2) Getting custom modified components for said ships. But you can do everything in the starter ship if you want (you just won't be as efficient). I haven't played for a couple of months (work, life, and other games got priority) and I have no worries that I'll be able to jump right back in when I load it up again. I am not "rich" by Elite standards...I only have a couple of medium sized ships (Asp Explorer, Python) and none of the larger ships.

    3) There is a space asshole problem on the open server, but you can play on the Solo server or on a private server (The Mobius group is a large PvE-focused group that plays on a shared server instance) https://elitepve.com/ .

I always play Solo so there's no space assholes bothering me other than NPCs. I can understand wanting that 'suspense' but I just don't have time to deal with space assholes bothering me when I'm mining my own ore.

I like Elite, I was playing the original on my AtariST back in the late 80s, and it's a good space trading/exploration/combat game. With the patch coming next month it'll pretty much be a feature-complete updated version of Elite 2 and 3 that got released in the 90s, which is what I wanted. And there's more coming.

FYI, the game greatly benefits from using a joystick (with or without throttle) or console controllers.

For some reason I thought online was on one big server like Eve, nice to hear there are PvE ones.

I have a joystick with throttle and Xbox One controller :)

    Thanks!

  7. I am considering getting this game and have a few questions:

    1) have any of you played it in VR and is it good?

    2) How gridy is the game, can you just log in from time to time, blow up some NPCs and do a little exploring or do you have to grind your way to level whatever before you get to the real game?

    3) Is there a space asshole problem and if so how bad is it? Are there tons of PC pirates and murderers who just enjoy ruining other people's days?

    Thanks!

  8. How many hectar does your coffee table take up? How many teamsters do you have in your employ to haul that thing off your 2.4 kilometer living room?

derp, dont write posts while distracted in a measurement system you dont usually use

  9. Hmm, i wonder if I can make space in my place for a Vive.

I have a studio apartment. My play space is like 2.0kmX1.6km. I can play almost every game with 0 issues, I've had to trick a few games that want a 2.4kmX2.4km space by changing my orientation so I can reach into the space over my bed :)

  10. So this is a double question. On my way back from Morocco I have to change airports in the UK between Gatwick and Heathrow. I will be in London from 10/25 4:45 PM to 10/26 2:30 AM.

So question 1) Is there a best way to make this switch and ow long will switching airports take?

    2) would it be worth going into London and getting a pint or something? I feel like ~9 hours is too long to just chill in airports.

    Thanks!

  11. Since I'm just running these in the background as I work, I decided not to skip anything for now.  I got up to 11 episodes as of this weekend.  There have definitely already been skippable ones.  If I have a complaint, it would be similar to one of my biggest general Star Trek complaints, which is that individual episodes can feel rushed with climax and resolution not necessarily having felt earned (like the all too common "have a science epiphany moments before certain disaster strikes that saves the day").

That aside, I'm thoroughly enjoying it.  I like that this is a Star Trek where you start in a position of few of the characters having pre-established relationships, and even the ones that do open the show with having experienced a significant change recently affecting that relationship (Sisko and Dax's friendship with Dax in a new host; Odo and Kira in a post-occupation world).  It gives room for conflict and growth as a cast that isn't always present in Star Trek (I've only seriously watched TOS and TNG, so I can't speak to the other ones in that regard).   It's a strength that unlike a starship captain, Sisko doesn't have iron authority over everything that happens on station.  He's in a position where having to deal with the devils he knows (Quark and Garak) is better than dealing with an unknown replacement should characters like them be summarily gotten rid of.

Yeah I feel like there is way more character growth in DS9 than in any of the other shows. Season 1 Sisko and Season 7 Sisko are not the same man. I am so excited for you to see "In the Pale Moonlight" for the first time. It's my favorite Trek episode by far.

  12. Yeah for sure. I need to do more explosive kills. I've had a lot of fun with the explosive rubber duck when I've used that.

I loved using the explosive golf ball in Sapienza. If you threw it at someone it would explode. I had wayyyyy to much fun with that. I am also a fan of dropping a proximity explosive while walking past someone.

  13. Yeah, I went with a more inelegant solution because I was nervous about the potential time pressure element to this challenge.

I kind of love the messy hits getting away with a terrible messy hit can feel more satisfying than pulling off a perfect accidental, sniper our poison kill.
