I liked all of that stuff, and love the gameplay.

I agree that a clearer indication of whether a bullet will hit you would be good.

Yeah, I enjoyed all of the terminal non-sense in this game.

I tried out Darktable, Photo.net and Gimp before finding PhotoScape. I haven't dug into the more advanced editing tools but it is a solid app for browsing/deleting photos and doing basic cropping and straightening.

I know this is a bit of a stretch if you are new, but Adobe has a pretty great deal on a monthly subscription to lightroom + photoshop if you are in the US. Lightroom has been invaluable to me as an editing tool and a a cataloging tool for my raw files.

I finished SteamWorld Dig 2, albeit with plenty of secrets still to find and optional caves still to complete. I was very much looking forward to this game - it's the first thing besides Mario that I've played on my Switch. I liked it a lot and can recommend it, but the pacing felt off, especially in retrospect. The credits came as a surprise - I didn't know I was tackling the final boss (was anticipating a big plot twist and then a whole new area to dig) and there were lots of upgrades I was still saving up cogs for.

SteamWorld Heist, whilst very different mechanically (no pun intended), did a great job of balancing and gating itself to make sure I reached the endgame feeling pretty powerful and armed to the hilt with almost everything available - whilst somehow making the grind minimal. In fact, it was very satisfying to return to a level you'd once barely scraped through, and ace it with your improved crew to rustle up some extra cash. Somehow I was able to complete the story of Dig 2 with lots of the upgrade tree still to go. Perhaps I was playing it wrong, but I wasn't rushing at all.

At some point I'll see if I can reload to just before the final battle and keep levelling up, then tackle some of the more fiendish caves. I'm not someone who tries to 100% everything but I do feel I've short-circuited this game somehow and want to spend more time with it.

I finished this last night on the train and I had the same thoughts about the pacing - even the ending scene felt a little, short? Obviously this was more about the journey than the destination, but I couldn't help but to feel a little disappointed by how abrupt it ended.

I thought there were flashes of excellence—visuals, performances, certainly music—but they were strung together by a LOT of very boring or in some cases utterly nonsensical plot and character motivation. It's bonkers to me that the filmmakers thought this movie needed to be almost three hours long.

I think your take is pretty similar to mine - there is a lot to love, but also a lot to face-palm over. There was something about the tone of all the humor they crammed into that really took me out of it. In the few gags that worked for me they really seemed to love to linger on the punch line a little too long.

There has always been a bit of humor/brevity in the original trilogy but the slapstick nature and modern tone and just the pure frequency of it in TLJ seemed over the top.

I want to make corn dogs for this prompt. I haven't forgotten about it!

Also I made puppy chow for christmas time to share with my d&d group and had leftovers that I brought into work, and literally not a single californian knew what puppy chow is. The one guy I know from Illinois knew what it was and was pumped. I did not realize this was a regional food.

Oh man, I totally made corn dogs  a few weeks back - I should have photographed them. I was trying to replicate a batter that result in a crispier tempura like exterior that is common In new Zealand. It didn't hit the mark fully but was still pretty OK.

Also Puppy Chow is great - i did not realize it was regional myself as its a DIY version of 'Mudbuddies' by Chex-Mix.

  6. Man, I really love everything about Splatoon 2 outside of the matchmaking and multiplayer design.  Having to play the same maps over and over is a real bummer, also the whole time sensitive Salmon run mode stinks!

I'm really trying to be better about beating games on Switch so i need to get through the story of Stardew Valley before I pick up the new Mario game.  So much good stuff coming out though!

    Nov 14th - Rocket League!

    Nov 14th - Rime

Nov 21st - Tiny Metal (Advanced wars, basically)

    Dec 1st - Xenoblade Chronicles

Dec 13th - Night in the Woods

  7. Alright so

    Spoiler

Did anyone else think Bob was an evil scientist at first? When he weirdly decides to tell Will to confront the evil and that info turns Will into a host. I definitely thought that this was on purpose and the DoE was trying to expand testing of the Upside Down stuff on the public.

Obviously it turns out to be totally bunk, but that was a weird 2-3 episode 'Evil Bob' arc for my wife and I

  8. Yeah, the story bits seem very easy, but I definitely was over leveled so I may have ruined it for myself. I have 2 or 3 more story missions, but I hit 20 ages ago because I had a good time with public events and side stuff.

I don't know why but the game feels inherently less social than PUBG, and I can't tell why I feel that maybe. Maybe because I got so used to the 20 minutes rounds and being able to switch between different crews with no problem. I feel very limited by the 3 man teams for strikes!

I'm going to make a pork shoulder for Friday, I generally like to have it as bbq as a sandwich initially and then heat it up the next day with some cilantro and onion and a pork taco the next day. I'm not sure if that counts, but its tasty.

We eated all of the pork before I could make tacos.

  10. So we tried the 4 player co-op in game and man, it makes for a hectic time. I think we need to agree to have everyone go places as a group as we kept running into people going off and getting into fights solo and dying hah. Hopefully we can get all 4 of us online this weekend at some point and put a little more time into it.

Overcooked is the game you want. I convinced my wife, who doesn't generally play games beyond Rockband, to try it one evening and she was hooked. We played it most evenings for the next two weeks! Simple controls, fun visuals and music, totally co-op. The later levels might be tough for her, especially if you're going for three stars, but it is the game you're after.

After we beat Overcooked I downloaded Death Squared to try and fill the void. It's the only other co-op game I could find. Haven't tried it yet but I'll let you know how it compares.

Thanks, I might have to pick that up for next time. I'm a little worried about the dexterity required but I think that if we don't worry about star count we'll be alright.

I think I agree with Roderick, I have had about enough of the game. I really enjoyed my 25 or so hours of it but I am ready to move on.

  12. Does anyone have any recommendations on local co-op for my niece and I? She's 5 and a half, but pretty smart for her age. We were playing Snipperclips but some of the more dexterous puzzle solutions were a bit hard for her. I have Minecraft, but I need to get a second set of Joycons or a pro-controller to play local co-op. Ideally we would just be able to use a single Joycon as that fits in her hand perfectly, the two of them together are a little large. She loved Mario Kart but she really wanted to play together vs against each other.

I'm thinking maybe Stardew Valley would be awesome for her as she seemed very keen on Minecraft but I don't think it has a co-op component yet.
