  1. It is a bit of a missed opportunity that she doesn't have many obstacles. It would be nice if they did something like have all the established characters constantly explaining to her that she can NOT have jedi capabilities because she ain't got the midis; to the point where she is trying to convince herself that they must be right because they know more about it (while levitating shit or whatever). And then Kylo is like "You have the most amazing abilities." But he is just trying to get her to do labor for his problematic agendas. That would be cool imo.

Those are plausible but still a stretch.  Even if you're worried about spies, just tell Poe since he's the one making a fuss.  Clearly no one else was willing to lead a mutiny so if you pacify him the rest will follow.  And if there were a spy I would think sabotage would be a much more effective play here.

As for Kylo being sneaky when killing Snoke, I just don't buy it.  I don't think he's that good.  He's shown virtually no emotional control whatsoever in the series thus far.  Despite the fact that he did it, he was extremely conflicted about killing Han and he didn't even take the shot on Leia.  He rages at Luke in what is clearly meant to be a trick.  I have a hard time believing that guy is able to kill the person who has been manipulating him in such a controlled manner.  And if that was the intent of the scene, it feels very inconsistent which is a problem I often have with Star Wars.

I can see why you would see him as an inconsistent character.

TLJ didn't really do a good job expressing why Kylo hates Luke that much. I do get why he

killed Han though; the only way to consistently advance in Star Wars is to kill your dad if you are lucky enough to not be the result of mom and her wild night with some midiclorians.

I'm reminded that I also saw the Last Jedi a couple weeks ago.

I wasn't really into it.  I'm ok with plans going awry and bad things happening for the good guys but I felt the story was leading me around a lot without really going anywhere.  The entire thing with Snoke being built up as a new Emperor type only to be killed with a literal flick of a switch was extremely unsatisfying.  Seeing him killed so easily and then watching Kylo and Rey struggle to fight off normal non-Force user guards was very jarring.

I think my biggest beef was with Poe's little mutiny.  I get his motivations and I did like that it backfired on him and taught him a lesson, but it was a lesson that shouldn't have been learned.  If Laura Dern (don't remember the character's name and I can't be bothered to look it up) would have just told Poe her plan in the first place, the whole thing could have been avoided.  Yes, the lesson he learned later proved useful on the base but that's knowledge you only gain in hindsight.  At the time of Poe's mutiny, there was no reason not to just tell him what was going on.

I have a lot of other little quibbles that I won't get into.  It's such a shame because I like most of the characters (apart from Kylo Ren who I find mostly insufferable).

If word got out that the plan was to cause a distraction while evacuating to a secret rebel base, then spies would inform the First Order. Loose lips sink ships.

Also regarding the death of Snoke, it's not just the flick of the wrist. That entire battle was mental where Kylo Ren was thinking his internal thoughts in a controlled and parallel manner so that Snoke would assume he was getting to a stance necessary to kill Rey. I thought that was super interesting. The idea of managing an escape from such a hyper-surveillance authoritarian was neat imo.

So much was set up in Last Jedi for some awesome Reylo payoffs that could reflect the philosophy of how the Lightside and Darkside relate. Reylo is going to make or break the next movie for me. What I really want is for both-sides-are-to-blame to be addressed and explained away in a convincing manner.

  4. I've been playing some of In Death during the free weekend on the Oculus store.

If you enjoyed the Budget Cuts demo, then this is worth checking out if for nothing more than the ability to compare and contrast the two.

There is more to In Death than is immediately available. I haven't played enough to see if there is a lot of depth to the enemy-types that arrive later or tge fiction of the world, but I did see something introduced after a few deaths that I found intriguing and I'm looking forward to seeing it again in order to try something on it.

A quick summury of the game:

Procedurally generated modular castle where you navigate through with teleportation projectiles while shooting enemies with arrows. It's roguelite with item stores and a meta-progression system based on achievements.

Ultimately it is a shooting-gallery with some stealth. The opportunities for stealth approaches are very lacking though. Still fun and kinda interesting.

I think the demo ends tonight at some point.

  5. I can see why the reviews are like this.

The game is very simple and really fun.

At its best moments I feel like a taiko drummer.

It's neat to remember that simple can be enough.

    BEAT SABER IS AMAZING!

Picked it up yesterday, of course I'm nowhere near the skill displayed in the video, but I'm having a lot of fun anyways. Unlike Audioshield, it doesn't support auto-generated tracks from your own music library, instead it's more finely-tuned tracks made for a fixed soundtrack. Also unlike Audioshield, you can actually fail in this, a Guitar Hero-style energy-meter needs to stay filled or the track stops.

It's good shit. Get in on this!

Even the 12 "negative" reviews out of 1,373 seem to praise the game except some gripes about expert-mode and there not being enough songs. It's hard to not be curious why everyone seems to like it.

I'm wondering if the planned level-editor will share content between the Steam and Oculus stores.

You're quite right. I gathered my chances would drop spectacularly if there was one of the following in the running:

    a. A man who also made an effort, but looked more like the character (full beard, possibly tats)

    b. A woman, making an effort and netting the 'outlier' boon

    c. A cute kid going just the right amount of disturbing

I've been watching a spy-show lately so I'm imagining a, b, and c, all getting urgent messages about trouble at home or mandatory detours around the time these pictures of you were taken.

Henke and I played some co-op for the first time. It's pretty awkward when the story missions pop up. I'm not very responsive to melodramatic cut-scenes when I'm aware that both of us have to suffer through them. Henke is very gracious though.

I also die a lot more than Henke does. I like to use the sniper rifle but I miss 4 out of 5 times, and my incendiary shotgun keeps getting me killed because they run into me after I set them ablaze.

Not that I've played Last Express (yet), but this sounds like a comparable concept...

There isn't much puzzle solving at all except suspecting a particular person and following them. You are basically a ghost watching it all play out. Fortunately the characters are fairly interesting.

So, I dressed up as Joseph Seed a week ago for a contest for a Dutch gaming store chain, and I won a PS4. Finally, I can play some of the already-classics on it, and of course Farcry 5 first and foremost.

It felt great to be a doomsday cult prophet, by the way.

Sweet. I love contests like these, there usually isn't much competition so it is typically worthwhile. You are lucky that some 12 year-old in a suit and sunglasses didn't show up.

I myself won a PSP by dressing up like Kratos having never played a God-of-War game.

  10. I've been wanting to try out Arcade and multiplayer, but I'm afraid that I will stop playing the campaign if I do. I'm having a lot of fun fumbling my way through slowly. I don't enjoy the main-story missions much at all though. I'm working my way through the south-west bunker after killing Joseph Seed and I should just walk back into the woods for a while and come back, but it has a puzzleness to it that I'm fascinated by. My main problem is that I keep on wanting to do this stealthily and I don't know how to deal with the heavies.

  11. This game is a story-engine, but the characteristics of the stories seem to be the most interesting thing for me to analyze. Mostly the sequences of events that entertain me are not relatable enough that the person I communicate them to is entertained, but they will typically understand what was entertaining about it. There are two main references which seem to anchor meaning in these stories: my experiences with rural America, and the goofiness of computer games. I'm not cynical about this at all, I love the combo.

  12. This article was educational for me. It seems that there is debate among muslims about whether or not halal-certification is bending too much in order to allow for industrial meat-production.

    https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2014/may/18/halal-food-uk-ethical-organic-safe

But I guess this means that the living-conditions (tayyib) is not currently being enforced.

This site appears to be speaking of the schism.

BTC is the future, I know many think that it's a bubble but the price is almost $10 000

It's interesting that you value it in U.S. dollars rather than in BTC. A similar argument would be that U.S. dollars are the future because the price is currently 0.0001 BTC

  14. Lately I've been getting into nice cheeses all the while knowing full well that dairy in America is a hellscape for the animals. I'd love it if science delivered some way to make nice cheeses without animals suffering.

I also recently found out that part of halal is providing good lives for the animals and what islam considers compassionate slaughter. It's made me consider getting it when I do eat meat.

What a sick situation to be in, when it's cheaper to buy a piece of murdered animal than some fucking vegetable.

Corn-subsidies for animal-feed in the U.S. is something that bothers me because it makes meat cheaper. We are all losing our antibiotics and compassion.
