Ok, So this is really regarding last week's episode, but it's podcast-related.
I found Chris' Farting Skeleton dream evocative, but I'm not an animator, so I instead imagined it as a children's book, in which Chris learns a valuable lesson. Here is a page from said "book..."
This is fantastic.

I have this romantic/naïve idea of making a small rural village in it's entirety by myself and have a game set in it. Last I checked I think the building-count were over 100, which seems like a lot for one person.
Edit: I'm investigating tools and techniques, let me know if you have any ideas!
Edit2: Art-style is still undecided, but it needs to be feasible.
Edit3: Considering UE4 over Unity, but still undecided.
I can personally recommend Unreal Engine 4. I've been using it for roughly 2 months and I'm having a lot of fun with it. I came from Unity Free, and was allured by the visual scripting tool and the node based material editor, and so far it's been great. The only thing I miss from Unity is the Asset Store, and the huge online community.
I'm not saying that it's "better" than Unity by the way, I guess it's a personal preference thing. But it's worth checking it out to see if it's right for you. Some of the beginner tutorials on their youtube channel are a useful thing to watch to get an idea of the workflow.
Edit: Hmm.. I kind of want to start an Unreal Engine thread on this subforum now. It would be cool to have a place to share tips/tricks/cheat codes/etc.

I'm not sure how much of the assets you want to design yourself, but I've seen multiple city-kits in the Unity asset store that give you building pieces that you can mix and match. You might even be able to use the models in UE4.
Here is one of them:
Just a warning: UE4 happens to only accept meshes in the .fbx format, so while the set you linked would work; not everything you find on the asset store will.
Edit: They may have added support for .obj by now but I'm not certain about whether that actually exists/works in the current version.

That Dashcon discussion was entirely fascinating, I had no idea that was going on last weekend.
Was Danielle's second name Rose? Clearly the best character then! I was surprised how much I got into watching a game/genre I never actually play, and when Luffy's French Rose started to kick ass I was happy I could cheer for the home continent at least... Then I also found and watched this Street Fighter documentary which was well made and featured a lot of Seth Killian who always seems like a cool/interesting guy.
Ooh, that documentary looks quite interesting. Thanks.

Aw yiss, two hour long episode.

I'm not sure if this is quite the right place to ask this, but I recorded a podcast with some friends of mine and we are looking for a place to host it. We've been using google drive, but that seems pretty sub-optimal. Does anyone know a good place to host a podcast that maybe 15 people will download?
I hear all the kids are using Soundcloud these days. I've also heard Podbean is okay but have no personal experience with it so your mileage may vary.

I'm also having a good time with Unreal Engine 4. The blueprint scripting language has made things sooo much easier for me get things done (what with having no real programming skills). I came from Unity3D with Playmaker, and UE4 just feels like the natural extension of that. The $20 price tag has been well worth it.

I think you nailed it, dude. You are in.

Cadbury's is fantastic. I actually went a few weeks ago. There's also the Sea Life Centre which is always good fun.
This thread is delicious.

With all the recent talk of Shovel Knight, I thought it might be worthwhile to point out that it has an incredible soundtrack by chiptune genius Jake Kaufman:

I haven't played a fighting game in years, but I always make sure to catch what I can of EVO whenever it rolls around. Looking forward to this.

Just got to the Jaws Game section; Majesco's showing at E3 2005 was a huge part of old Thumbs coverage. Why not read the preview?
Nice!

It got a thumbs down on Youtube. Mission accomplished.
It's you! I watched your newest video a few days ago and thought it was great.

You should email the people who make Trapcode Particular and thank them for making a tool that allowed you to make condoms fly out of the Olympic Village, and tell us what they say. Just that line. No context.
Based on the little I know about the guys at Red Giant, I think they'd probably be cool about it.
-
Only 3rd party plugin I used is Trapcode Particular (for the condoms flying out of the Olympic village)
This is probably the first and last time Particular will ever be used for such a purpose.

Also, congrats on the video. I always enjoy seeing these.

I believe he also seems to be wearing an what looks like an Assassin's Creed hood in that picture.

I first started listening to the podcast right after the kickstarter revival, and found myself listening to the older episodes in reverse chronological order, whilst also listening to the new episodes as they were being released. It was a pretty strange experience that reached peak weirdness when I discovered the origin of the wizard joke (in episode 5 I think) and a whole bunch of things made sense.
That was a long time ago now. I should listen to those old episodes again...

So I was the loudly laughing dancing guy in the rural New Hampshire grocery store
Whatever gets you through the day. I mean it sounds like you had a great shopping experience.

On the topic of convenient console power/video connectors which are the same on each console iteration, I think Sony has been silently doing this since the PS1. I don't have a PS4, so this may not hold true any more, but excluding any of the
LiteDietSlim models, the power and the video connector has been the same all the way up to the PS3 (Unless you're using HDMI). I always thought that was pretty neat. -
Apparently the Thumbs were accidentally correct about Watch Dogs being connected to the Assassin's Creed universe: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-06-02-assassins-creed-4-character-crosses-over-to-watch-dogs (article has some spoilers)
Also, it turns out that the Ubiverse is an actual thing too:
"[Watch Dogs is its] own game in the Ubiverse," McDevitt wrote on Ubisoft's official AC Initiates forum.
I find it amusing how so much of the stuff that's joked about on the cast is later revealed to be true.

I would love to have Danielle as part of the mane hosts.
Your pun made me choke on my drink and now I've made a mess. Thanks.
No need to apologise, I don't need your simba-thy.

What iOS app is that? Did the official Podcast app suddenly become simple and pretty?
No, the official app is still insufferable.
I use PocketCasts and it's great.
Unreal Engine 4 Thread
in Game Development
Posted
It seems that there are a handful of people here using Unreal Engine so I thought it would be a good idea to start up a thread for it.
So if you're a beginner and have questions, ask them here! Or if you're a bit more experienced and have cool tips/tricks/
cheat codesthat might be helpful, share them here too!
