  1. Hey, do the ones on the shelf now have the day 1 patch preinstalled? I remember that being a huge bummer; I spent three hours setting the damned thing up when I bought it on launch day. Doing the big patch next week will hopefully be pretty painless, at least. I think this is the same patch that's adding user-made communities for Miiverse, so are we gonna' make an Idle Thumbs Miiverse group? I hope Nintendo allows an LGBT group and doesn't pull a Microsoft.

By the way: Playing Kirby and not having to pause when I need to use the toilet is the best thing you guys.

  2. If by "GBA games" you mean Dynasty Warriors, Drill Dozer, and that one fucking Yu-Gi-Oh game, then yes.

I still sort of regret repeatedly passing up the new copy of Yggdra Union that they had (and likely still have) at the EB in my old town. GBA is probably my favourite system, specifically I'm a huge fan of the Gameboy Micro.

  3. If Drill Dozer goes up on Wii U VC as part of the GBA lineup, I hope they include the rumble since that controller is capable of it. It's actually really integral to the experience. ...Unfortunately the added bulk of the motor makes it uncomfortable to play on the Gameboy Micro, but whatever.

The saddest thing is that you can still find stacks of brand new copies of that game at every EB Games I've ever gone to.

  4. I told him! I'm out of the closet! I had to do it through email, but it didn't feel as hard as the other times I've done it. Now I just have to wait to hear back from him.

I did it I did it eeeee

  5. Oh my jebus you read my letter again! I can't believe you actually got an (amazing) anecdote out of that.

Did you guys recognize me? It sounded like you might have remembered me from the Metroid Prime email however many episodes ago, but I'm not sure.

Also, I was secretly hoping you guys would refer to me with female pronouns this time to make up for thinking I was a boy last time, but you managed to avoid using any pronouns at all. booo

  6. Urgh, I'm so sorry that I just keep turning this into the "tegan's moral quandaries" thread, but this happened:

So I guess my mom had set up a Canada Savings Bond in my name when I was a kid and just got the return on it. She wants to give it to me; but again, she doesn't know where I live or any way to reach me besides email.

I wish you would contact me because I care about you and love you and would like you and I to try to resolve our differences.  I don’t know if you get my email’s or not but I wish you would just talk to me.
    Love you,
    Mom

It sounds like she wants to make up, but I've fallen for that before. Last time she attempted to "resolve our differences" it included trying to get me into ex-gay therapy and letting my dad walk away with my belongings. I think I could potentially be putting myself in danger if I accept, but... I really need that money. It would be a fairly substantial amount by my standards... Enough to pay off my debts, maybe even buy a real bed instead of sleeping on a mattress covered with rags. I just don't know.

Also, I'm going to come out to my friend tonight. If he accepts me, I trust that he'll have good advice and keep me safe.

  7. I've been reading Spinnerette recently. I read it a few years ago back when it was still young and I felt like it was just kind of a middling superhero parody with too many cheesecake jokes, but it turns out it's gotten much better since then, even if it still has the occasional boob joke. I'm starting to make predictions about the plot and everything.

...Of course, I'd be lying if I said I'm not a little soft on it because it has a Canadian superhero team and

the main character is in a very cute blossoming lesbian relationship with the most interesting character.

  8. The monumental thing about Earthbound is that it was just assumed it would never happen due to the crazy amount of shit in that game that infringes copyright laws.

My secret fantasy is that EA will join the bandwagon and pay Volkswagen royalties or something so I can finally get another release of Beetle Adventure Racing, the secret best game on the N64.

Also, just as a heads-up, Kirby's Adventure is now on the eShop for thirty cents as of a few hours ago.

Oh, also, Iwata confirmed in the Nintendo Direct that N64 games are indeed returning to the Wii U virtual console, they just don't have a date yet. They also restated that yes, GBA games will be coming as well. I hope they put Gamecube on VC eventually. It would be nice to only have to own two consoles to play Nintendo's entire catalog.

  9. That AC:NL 3DS XL is ugly.

Dude, If I had a purse, I would want it to look like the Animal Crossing 3DS.

Oh, also, there's another Professor Layton game coming out meant to "finish the second trilogy," whatever that means.

  10. So there was a Nintendo Direct.

If you don't want to sit through it:

    • new Yoshi's Island game
    • more info on a few games we already knew were coming
    • Zelda Oracle Games coming to VC soon (old news), sounds like they intend to keep the save-swapping intact (new news)
    • new Mario Party
    • Animal Crossing 3DS XL coming to NA
    • mysterious swapnote stuff
    • new Mario vs. Donkey Kong
    • Bravely Default coming to NA
    • LINK TO THE PAST SEQUEL WHAT

  11. So Nintendo did a Nintendo Direct today where they discussed a few things:

    • New Flying Pikmin that we already knew about officially revealed, still no release date for Pikmin 3 but the boxart looks great.
    • The Spring update for the Wii U will be released next week
    • The Wii U Virtual console service will be released the following week, and include quite a number of middling NES games at launch.
    • but fuck that because, due to overwhelming demand voiced through Miiverse, Earthbound is coming to Virtual Console later this year.

I have never been so excited.

  12. I'm with Twig; given your father's previous history of refusing to work on military tech and having to raise a family himself, it sounds like he would understand. Obviously I'm not in a position to really have an opinion on family matters, but it seems like this is a decision where he would be proud whether you go one way or the other. I would ordinarily advise on personal principle that it sounds like the best thing for you would be to respectfully bow out of the military project, but money is tight for everyone. There's no shame in providing for yourself and your loved ones.

He, I didn't even know it was a real name for people who are not fancy musicians. (And I knew about them being gay and Canadian and then your location is Canada as well and you are outspokenly gay and I thought, woah, it's Tegan from Tegan and Sara. I mean, not really, I'm not that crazy. Just a tiny bit.)

I am happy to have been mistaken for Ms. Quin. She's super cool and she and her girlfriend are so cute together!

  13. Although the most crushing disappointment isn't losing. Rather, it's the music STOPPING when you lose. Damn those are some sick beats.

I played Super Hexagon back when it was a gamejam game and fell in love with the music (it was just "Courtesy" at that point, "Otis" and "Focus" didn't show up until the full version), so I was super pumped when I saw that with the full release of the game, Chipzel released the soundtrack for it as well.

  14. The Pokemon video is kind of funny, but it's not really impressive since he's not doing anything special, just killing the other team with entry hazards.

He's doing a lot of other little things, like playing around with priority brackets. At first I thought he was just using Copycat to make up for Roar's fairly average PP, but he's taking advantage of it having +1 priority as well.

The strategy he mentions early on comes from a Japanese player who made a level 1 team to fight Cynthia a week after the games came out. They did some really fascinating stuff, like taking a Pineco with Sturdy and setting up Leech Seed with it to make it basically invincible while it laid down entry hazards.

Nice to see someone that good still have problems with that corner on Chenghou!

I think they're deliberately colliding with it to orient themselves to make sure that they hit the boost. That video is the former world record.
