Sorry for the false alarm yesterday, Nintendo had a listing on their website for Excitebike and the Wii U facebook page had a "two days" teaser that turned out to just be the reveal of the VC launch games: all of the games already released as part of the 30 cent offer; plus Donkey Kong Jr., Excitebike, Ice Climber, and Super Mario World.
Also, Pikmin 3 was given an official release date this week: August 4th. And one of the Japanese wallpapers has finally confirmed that Purple and White Pikmin are indeed returning. I'm glad, 'cause purples are my favourites.

The early batches of the original 3DS definitely had a problem with the bottom screen leaving marks on the top. I specifically upgraded mine to the XL because mine did it. I know Nintendo was offering to fix the issue for those affected at one point, but I'm not sure if that was the case.
And yeah, the Spice Gamecube was Japan-only, though it was one of the launch colours there so it's common enough that it won't cost a fortune. Here's a boxed on on eBay for just over a hundred bucks. Looks like someone's put up the legitimately rare matching Gameboy Player too. If I had the money, I would go for it.

Luckily, I just happened to have everything hooked up, because I`m moving a bunch of folders around!
They really need new names. The Monolith is a featureless glossy black Seagate external harddrive that always sits on top of my computer. Yoko is an old Seagate model I use for backup and usually keep in storage. I named it back in high school. My laptop at the time was named Kamina and my mp3 player at the time was Simon.
The Monolith is currently videos only, while Yoko is a backup for various music, installers, original scans and PSDs of my artwork, porn, and other odds and ends. I`m going to eventually get a LaCie LaCinema and copy the contents of The Monolith into it so I'll have an ideal media center to replace the Western Digital box I'm using now.

damn the xbox is huge.
It is so huge! When I bought it off my friend, he had both the original "hamburger" controller and a Mad Catz controller made around the time the console launched, so it's somehow even larger. I had to pay more than double what I paid for the console to get one of the small controllers. Curse my dainty fingers.
But yeah, I'm trying to reorganize everything right now. I want to get some new furniture when I have the money, too. Next order of business is to get that phone off the side of the TV stand. I've been thinking of getting one of these and setting it off to one side, but I dunno. I deally I'd like the phone in a different part of the room entirely, but the cord won't really allow that. ...Actually, I think I have a phone jack in my bedroom. I should try that. I'm also going to try to manage the cables for my desk. They're pretty bad.

The Spice Gamecube? They were Japan-only; so I've never seen one in person, just the controllers, which did come out here for some reason.

Idle Thumbs Cords Management Consortium:
My TV stand has these little clips on the back meant for cord management, but of course they're not nearly substantial enough to handle all my cords, so I used them to clip a paper towel roll onto the back of the stand and used it to approximately center everything behind the TV. There's some other shenanigans at work too. It doesn't look so good from the back, but whatever. Compare with the last time I posted in this thread.

The original XL line-up of black, red and blue was atrocious. Just a hell of primary boringness.
You mean black/red and black/blue? Because we never got the black/silver one or the pure black one. Or the white one, for that matter. Or anything else besides the pink one and (eventually) the Pikachu one. Nintendo doesn't want us to have colours for some reason.
Also, I always wanted the lime DS, but I've been wary about buying one ever since Jeremy Parish got that bootleg one on eBay. I still remember seeing the original colour lineup when the Wii was first announced and then being super disappointed when the promised lime green model never made it to production.

Gonna' contribute to the complete lack of serious responses in this thread.
What makes this fucker so great is that we're repeatedly told that he has a "perfect military mind" and that he's a perfect commanding officer, but only two people are confirmed to have ever survived serving under him. He's the most incompetent, weirdly misogynistic leader ever and yet he's played completely straight. It's the best.

lobotomy42: I remember reading an Iwata asks about the design of the original 3DS, and he said that they specifically wanted the top half to always be solid black because it was less distracting and easier to get absorbed in, like dimming the lights at a theater. It`s also why the clear top coating covers the entire upper half instead of just the screen itself like on other handhelds. I don't know why they went with a more conventional look for the XL.
There was also a limited-run 3DS XL in pink and white at one point, but it's pretty pale. I find the new neon pink one looks really fun, plus it's the same colour as my old DSi was.

Does Wizard People, Dear Reader count? Because that thing is spectacular.
For those not in the know, it's an alternate audio track for Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone that adds a narrator fond of bizarre nicknames, elaborate similes, and recasting every character as a jerk. From Wikipedia:
At one point, Harry calls himself a "beautiful animal" and a "destroyer of worlds". He also repeatedly affirms that he is "Harry fucking Potter". Numerous references are made to characters taking out unseen flasks or drinking alcohol, and Harry is mentioned as being "drunk every day before noon" and producing "many a Wine-Out-of-Nowhere Spell."
Hermione ("Harmony") is repeatedly described as incredibly ugly, Snape ("Snake") is referred to as a hideous woman, and at one point, Neely simply remarks that "Ron loves Twizzlers." (Ron is almost always referred to as "Ronnie the Bear.")
The work makes extensive use of simile: Professor McGonagall ("Hardcastle McCormick") is described as having a voice that is "chilling, like a piano made of frozen Windex," while her "eyes float like smears of fish-scales on her candle-wax stump of a head"; the face of Voldemort ("Val-Mart") "moves like a marmalade baby just out of the womb."

Isn't Gearbox's entire deal now? Snatching up games from the brink of death and then make them shitty (see: Duke Nukem Forever, Aliens: Colonial Marines)? With all of the big properties that have been dying or being put up for sale lately it was bound to happen.

for the second time since buying my 3DS XL, I find myself wishing I had waited just a little longer instead of settling on the black and red model.

Finished Kirby's Adventure on Wii U Virtual Console today and realized it was the first time I've ever beaten an NES game. I used to own the GBA remake of this game, and I'm pretty sure it was the first game I ever 100%ed. Memories.

So according to a thing put up on Nintendo's Facebook page yesterday, it looks like the big April firmware update is due out sometime today, with Virtual console services launching sometime tomorrow. Also, here's a handy list of games confirmed to be coming to VC at some time or another, since the video from last week's Nintendo Direct flashes them by so quickly.
Balloon Fight (already released as part of 30 cent deal, will likely be available tomorrow for full price)
Donkey Kong (to be released on July 15th as part of 30 cent deal)
Donkey Kong Jr.
EarthBound
Excitebike (confirmed to be launching alongside Virtual Console tomorrow)
F-Zero (already released as part of 30 cent deal, will likely be available tomorrow for full price)
Ice Climber (stongly hinted to be launching alongside Virtual Console tomorrow)
Kirby Super Star
Kirby's Adventure (currently available as part of 30 cent deal)
Kirby's Dream Course
Kirby's Dream Land 3
Mario Bros.
Mega Man
Punch-Out!! Featuring Mr. Dream (already released as part of 30 cent deal, will likely be available tomorrow for full price)
Super Mario Bros. 2
Super Mario World
Super Metroid (to be released on May 15th as part of 30 cent deal)
Wrecking Crew
Yoshi (to be released on June 12th as part of 30 cent deal)
Yoshi's Cookie
And this seems like the perfect time to remind anyone who bought a Deluxe Wii U (any black model) that you should be tracking your digital purchases on this website. Deluxe owners are all included as part of a promotion where, until the end of 2014, 10% of the money you spend in the Wii U eshop goes back to you in the form of an eShop credit in increments of five dollars. It's going to be pretty useful with Virtual Console active, but you have to actively participate to take advantage of it.

This is pretty huge, so you might want to open it in a new tab. Normally I'm not a huge fan of these things, but I'm amazed at how many characters I recognized and how many jokes I got.
Things that Idle Thumbs folks will want to watch out for: Guybrush Threepwood standing next to the video game kiosk on the far right; Sam and Max, Meat Boy and Bandage Girl, the Double Fine Double Baby, and a redcloak from Journey all hanging out in the upper right; and the Purple Tentacle in the Petting Zoo on the bottom discussing world domination with Pinky and the Brain.

EDIT: Whoops, wrong thread. Sorry.

Oh man, Spinenerette has been on my "To read" list for a while.... I almost forgot about it!
Seriously, it's surprisingly good.
The one thing that's bugging me: Spinny and Mecha Maid are currently hanging out with a Canadian superhero team. They're pretty awesome, but the obligatory Francophone member speaks France French instead of Canadian French. As someone from the heart of Chiac country, it's really throwing me off.

Life

You know, having a partner doesn't necessarily mean that you won't get to do any of those things, or that you'll live a less rewarding life by not doing them. Love does weird things to people, but actively choosing to Scrooge McDuck your way through life pretty much always ends disaster.
I'm having a hard time getting the appointment with my mom set up. She wants to meet at a restaurant instead of my friend's house, but I don't want to discuss my private matters out in the open. And she wants to meet on the same day that I have a doctor's appointment and will have to walk for a few hours in a part of town I've never been to before. And I can't take a cab because I've only got fifteen dollars left in cash and negative ten dollars in my bank account.
It's not like I even want her back in my life. I don't even know how to describe to her how awful she's made me feel, or even talk to her without just freaking out and screaming at her. All I want is to get the money, have dinner, and go see Jurassic Park with my friend.

Haha really? I just found the lyrics on the internet. What did I get wrong?
Just little things, like singing "touchdown brings me back around to find" instead of "touchdown brings me 'round again to find," but it was just off enough to tug at a nerve every time.
What was incredible is he didn't know most of those songs and then went and learned them, on the fly, while Nick was building and was playing them 5 minutes later. Bonkers.
Jesus.
I've always wanted to learn how to play an instrument, but I don't think I'll ever be this good.

Your tactic for 12 was the way that I originally fought it. I've never thought about
swimming around to its back while it's propped up, though. I always climb on top of the little platform in the middle of the island, then carefully time a jump directly onto its face and just clamour up to the top of its head.

Super envious of Chris's easy familiarity with mr guitar.
I found it kind of hilarious that Chris knows so many songs about space.
Also, legitimately moved by his performance of Space Oddity.

Imagine if someone made an Oculus Rift + Leap mod for Surgeon Simulator 2013 that just made the game completely easy.
It would be like a Kinect version of QWOP.
-
Tegan (or anyone else), have you ever read the Re-Take doujin? I was told that it's what Evangelion's ending should have been, but I found it kinda whatever, though I haven't had anyone to bounce those feelings off of.
I've never heard of this until now, but reading the summaries on Evageeks makes it sound hilariously dumb.

Okay, so I watch this guy unbox his lego – do I need special equipment or lighting or oils or what? Am I going to have to watch the whole 8 minutes or does it kick in right away? I have so many questions, I mean my friend does.
I always feel it right away, but I don't know how it is for others.

Argh. My mom doesn't want to budge on the meeting in public thing, and now my friend's saying I should go along with it so that she doesn't make a scene. The thing is, I think I'm more likely to make a scene. Maybe it's for the best, even if I end up outing myself to a few strangers.
I got some things done today!
Man, I am living some uneventful days.
