  1. The Pokemon Stadium game where you have to catch all the eggs by leaning a chansey left and right is master. Also, the scyther/pinsir wood-chopping game.

*adjusts glasses* A-hem! I believe those were both Pokémon Stadium 2.

Pokémon Stadium 2 was the first game I ever bought with my own money. On more than one occasion I've had friends ask me to pull it out for a laugh and ended up having a ton of fun, with the highlight for me always being the moment that the other person realizes that at least one of the COM players in "Streaming Stampede" will always be programmed to flip the fuck out and mash its button like crazy at the end of the last round.

  2. Okay, so the Adventure Time comics are secretly an introduction to everyone making interesting comics right now. I can't believe some of the talent that they've gotten hold of to work on this thing. The sheer variety of tones and subjects on display is simply staggering.

  3. I started reading the Adventure Time comics just recently, and they're super good. They also have tons of contributions from internet comic peeps, sometimes to surreal effect. It's also really obvious that Ryan North does the writing, because occasionally Dinosaur Comics will just shine through.

Most pages even have alt text!

  4. What's making this one interesting, though, is that by all accounts these two act like this all the time, unprovoked. The 1 star "these folks are batshit insane" reviews started all the way back in 2010, with the owners' trademark responses to criticism being right there from the start.

  5. Please post pictures! I love seeing that kind of stuff.

I love collecting things, but lately I've been trying to keep my own collection as trim as possible. Plenty of consoles, but just a handful of essential games for each one. One thing I'm really terrible for is buying multiple versions of the same game, so I've been pushing myself to just get all of my old games on Virtual Console and then sell off the physical copies.

  6. I wish I hadn't sold off my Gamecube when I bought a Wii. It made sense to do it, but I had a lot of fond memories with the Gamecube, plus the Gameboy Player is one of the most useful accessories ever.

I really wish Nintendo would put out a patch for the Wii to make Gamecube controllers compatible with its menus, because it's basically a Gamecube to me at this point and I hate having to keep a Wiimote synced to it just to use a menu.

  7. That's why I'm not normally a fan of these kinds of things. I've seen that one Charlie Brooker episode, etc etc;* but even if you treat each shot as though it were in a vacuum literally everything they say is completely nuts. Check out this news interview from 2010.

Also, I feel awful for that one waitress. Are restaurant owners even allowed to pocket tips like that?

*and I generally dislike the kind of shows that exploit people's problems for entertainment

  8. So I don't normally care about these kinds of shows at all, but have y'all seen this? Kitchen Nightmares had an episode where Gordon Fucking Ramsey walked out on the restaurant because the owners were too crazy to reason with. The entire thing is on Youtube and it is a glorious trainwreck.

But it doesn't end there. The owners decided to flip out and attack "haters" through their Facebook page. They now claim that their page was hacked in a hilarious attempt at damage control.

Also, it turns out the lady is actually a convicted felon, and the current theory is that the restaurant might actually be a front for a money laundering scheme.

UnitNumberFive: also I guess Amy herself is a convicted felon.
[TT] Kylie Byron: That's the suggestion, yes
[TT] Kylie Byron: though I guess I could look up her public records for confirmation
UnitNumberFive: she opened up a line of credit under someone else's SSN.
[TT] Kylie Byron: because it should all be there
    [TT] Kylie Byron: yeah
[TT] Kylie Byron: I just have access to her records ;)
    [TT] Kylie Byron: Amanda Bouzaglo
[TT] Kylie Byron: Formerly amanda bossingham, of denver Co
[TT] Kylie Byron: Also Amanda Kirkham
    [TT] Kylie Byron: goodness
[TT] Kylie Byron: she has civil records miles long
    UnitNumberFive: :0
[TT] Kylie Byron: Apparently she even committed fraud w/ her lawyer regarding legal fees?
    UnitNumberFive: what the what
[TT] Kylie Byron: Pending: 18:1344 BANK FRAUD (1-2)
    18:1014 False Statements to a Bank (3-4)
    18:1028(a)(7) Theft Identity (5-6)
42:408(a)(7)(B) Misuse of Social Security Number (7-8)
    Offense Level (opening): 4
    UnitNumberFive: jeeeeesus
[TT] Kylie Byron: Plus at least three or four civil suits
[TT] Kylie Byron: And one apparently against a previous restaurant/baking operation.
[TT] Kylie Byron: with which she was involved.
    UnitNumberFive: waddafuq
[TT] Kylie Byron: "Pony Expresso & Dessert Bar"

  9. I'm not really following the game all that closely, but that goat looks awesome, and you even get to ride around on it.  Are these starters? Will there be other rideable ones?

The new starters are these three:

    K9JPADL.jpg

Gogoat is the only confirmed rideable, but I don't see why they wouldn't do others. I'd love it if I could ride around on my Arcanine ported over from Black 2.

  10. Three Pokédexes!

    Dgj4Yji.jpg

So maybe now there'll be three Geodude equivalents instead of just the one!

Also, I guess the Pokébeach guy had an anonymous source who accurately predicted all of the new monsters' types and English names, and also provided some interesting other tidbits. Again, grain of salt, especially since Mr. XY was a total fraud. But still!

    • Fairy will be a new type. It is weak to Poison and Steel, immune to Dragon, super effective against Dragon, Dark, and Fighting, and Fire and Psychic-type Pokemon take half damage from it.
    • Sylveon is Fairy-type. Some older Pokemon will be reclassified to Fairy, such as Mawile (Steel/Fairy).
    • Mewtwo has two new formes, not just one. Both are activated via items.
    • The professor's English name is Patrice.
    • The Starter final evolutions are Fire/Psychic, Grass/Fighting, and Water/Dark.
    • The first Gym is Bug, the second is Fairy, and the fourth is Fighting.
    • A few attacks will be dual-typed.
    • There will be a new type of battling style that Flying-type Pokemon and Pokemon with Levitate can participate in.
    • You will be able to see a Pokemon's EVs at a certain in-game facility. You will be able to boost the EVs through mini-games. It will take about two hours to get one stat to max EVs.

  11. That's fine. Sorry to misinterpret. I've just been having this discussion a lot more than I'd like lately.

Sometimes these sorts of things can be weird too. I still have no idea how I feel about using the word "queer" to describe myself.

  12. It's not really your place to decide if someone gets to be offended by a historically discriminatory term though, is it? Especially if the word doesn't apply to you, in which case your opinion really shouldn't matter.

If someone asks me to not use a word on the basis of its discriminatory nature, I immediately drop it, because it's literally the least I can do to make themselves and others that fall under the same category feel more comfortable.

  13. Nier was okay but Kaine's attire was very awkward and I had to ignore it the entire time I played (note I was doing a review for it so that is why I was playing it).

Incidentally, that review will be out tomorrow.

Just out of curiousity, how much of the game did you play? I'm normally fine with reviewers not playing an entire game, but Nier is a special case for me where the game gets so much better when you get into New Game Plus, particularly in how much more you learn about Kaine.

...I have kind of a soft spot for Nier and still feel that it was done a tremendous disservice when that Joystiq reviewer called it terrible due to his failure to understand the game.

  14. I feel its worth pointing out that those "The Third Place" ads weren't just "Lynchian," but were actually made by David Lynch himself.

Do you know who did the Wolfman commercial? I get a strong and unsettling Monkey Dust vibe from it.

It was made by a dude named Tim Hope, and is actually condensed down from a short film he did called Wolfman.

  15. When the video store I worked at closed and we sold off all of our stock, one really rude guy bought up a ton of our stock so that he could rent it at his own store (which is illegal, by the way). He would let his kids run rampant in the place and was constantly interrupting us in the middle of dealing with customers to ask us what our best-renting games were so that he could buy them up.

I convinced him to buy like thirty copies of this game.

  16. But nooo, can't even let that happen in people's imaginations, have to explicitly stop that implication as the show goes on. Can't let that adorable story where a little (girl? boy? can't remember) is playing with Rainbow Dash and Applejack dolls, and he announces that they're getting married, and his (maybe a boy?) old aunt disapproves. "They're girls, they can't get married!" "Why not?" "Jesus says they can't." "Well then I'm worshiping Satan!" (apparently a true story). Can't let that happen, so let's get rid of that.

    Wait, what?

  17.  Is Ouran High School Host Club really that good? I always put it in the same mental box as InuYasha: anime for preteen girls because preteen girls cosplay it at cons.

It's an absolutely brilliant parody of overly-dramatic shoujo romances that requires only the most basic familiarty of those types of anime, plus it has some interesting things to say about gender roles and expression.

    It also has this:
