  1. I just finished Middle Earth: Shador of Mordow yesterday. Good game. I think I didn't get as much out of it as some other people did, I never really had any great back and forth with any of the captains/warchiefs. Still fun. But really what matters is Bayonetta 2, next week.

  2. haha. Despite a few puzzles that were pretty bad, I adored the game for its tone and story, so I'm really looking forward to the next part. I have a history of falling in love with adventure games that have bad mecahnics/puzzles I guess. Or at least, I love The Longest Journey and Dreamfall, and TLJ had one terrible puzzle in particular that was impossible, while Dreamfall had a really bad combat mechanic.

  3. I've started this, I'm about halfway through now and really enjoying it. It has nice writing touches and I like that the exploration of AIs as individuals doesn't seem to be boiling down to just "AIs can be people TOO!" At least not so far. I look forward to finishing this out soon, especially because it's one of those games that gives me the impression that I can't be sure how it will end (ie. compared to obvious happy ending plots where you know the hero will win and everything will be fine).

I really liked the moment where I flipped the switch that drained all the power from the dormant robots. I'm not entirely sure if I was meant to take this away from it, but I saw that as like pulling the plug on a bunch of comatose people. Except the comatose people don't even have personalities, they are blank slates that could be easily reproduced again. It's not even comparable to an abortion, because even a ball of cells with no organs is a unique iteration, while the robots are a blueprint that presumably still exists to print out a new one. The reason that Arid is different is because she is breaking her programming and deviating from a set of processes. She's developing a unique personality and behaviours.

I think I'm gonna go try finish this now, as long as I don't get caught on any more weird puzzles that throw me off (the baby test one was a nightmare).

Agreed, that one was annoying. There's one puzzle after where you are that I recall finding annoying as well but it wasn't as bad.

  4. Oh man this episode made me realize that I still try the Half-Life crouch jump in most FPS games, if I can't make a jump, without thinking about it. I'm sure it doesn't work anymore in just about anything,  barring CS, but I guess since HL1 was basically my first shooter that mechanic just got etched into my brain.

  5. It's both ridiculous and understandable, which says a lot about the state of games.  This is the first video game KS I've backed that is (theoretically) 100 percent released and done.  So given that, it seems like I really ought to dip right into it, warts and all.

yeah I think im going to wait for reviews too, and I did kickstart it. And even weirder, I guess, is that I'm treating wasteland 2 as a litmus test for the new Torment game they are making. Can they make a good crpg? Is it will written? The writing will be the most important I think. in

  6. Oh I actually did want to go to the game night that Altaco mentioned but I forgot about it. I think they do it regularly though, ill have to go sometimes.

Anyway, GaymerX (the event that Danielle went to and talked about on the podcast and it sounded rad) is coming up again, and they are doing a kickstarter. I didn't know about it last year, but it sounded awesome to hear described, so I am going to go this year. I backed the kickstarter enough to get a ticket.

  7. Pretty much that. There was a fairly awkward AMA where the three people associated with the campaign weren't able to answer any basic questions about why they needed money, what the money would be used for or what their plan was.

Also, the new "ethical" gaming news site that was born from gamerghazi is supposed to start posting today. That should be interesting.

They really missed an opportunity to have goodgamers.cool. Or maybe coolgamers.cool.

Oh thanks. That was an entertaining read. I would also have a lot more respect for them if it were goodgamers.cool. or coolgames.cool. coolcoolcool.cool. That last one is available. I'm tempted.

  8. That indiegogo campaign to launch a lawsuit against outlets for...something...ethics...something...is stuck in a quagmire because apparently you can't cancel an Indiegogo campaign under any circumstances.  Which is really fucked policy, it's somewhat shocking that there is absolutely no way to ever bring down a campaign on your own regardless of circumstances.  That said, I find some delicious irony in the fact that someone opened up a campaign to "investigate" journalists without bothering to read the terms and service agreement of their funding source, and is now upset and blaming Indiegogo for their own failure to educate themselves and do due diligence.

oh I must have missed something about this. I saw when it got started and that a guy was raising money to hire his fiancee/wife, which seemed rather suspect. Why are they trying to close it now?

  9. I enjoyed the response to his repeated attempts to try and invoke logical fallacies.

One of the most infuriating parts of this whole thing to me (besides, you know, all of it) is the constant attempts by people to make their claims seem more legitimate by trying to invoke some kind of fallacy.  I have nothing but respect for actual logic, but simply stating "strawman" is not an argument.

Yeah, I really enjoyed that bit. Now I am imaging the paranoid homeless man from Jazzpunk just spewing the names of fallacies. "Uhhgh appeal to authority. ad hominem. hnng strawman." *vomits everywhere* "unngh no true scotsman"

  10. I honestly don't consider it a proper d-pad if you can mush the diagonals as a separate button. I feel like the purpose of a direction pad is to have an outlined up, down, left, and right, and you push two together if you need a diagonal. The way the 360's d-pad is set up makes it almost function like an analog stick. But you already have an analog stick, two of them, so why put another? To me the way the 360's d-pad is made is very much like a shitty catch all like this 90s piece of crap:

So I play PC and Xbawks with this instead. (Apparently it's official with Microsoft?)

    whoah what is that?
