  1. Feminism

Yeah I'm pretty ashamed to admit that I used to be one of those guys back in high school. Confronting that I was/still kind of am actually kind of an asshole is definitely one of the ways I've gone about trying to better myself on a person. As I believe JP LeBreton once said on twitter, "I'm on a never-ending quest to be less of a piece of shit."
  2. Feminism

This isn't really contributing to the conversation in any significant way, but just found this terrific comic, and figured it might be appreciated here. http://imgur.com/a/RmAjE
  3. Amateur Game Making Night

Just writing to say that I'd also be very interested in this as well!
  4. The Idle Thumbs 10th Anniversary Committee

Oh man if that arrived before the other stuff and they thought that was the rest....that'd be amazing!
  5. A thing I enjoy on this cast: Jake suggesting a ridiculous event happening and following it up with, "What if that happened?" I did that sort of thing all the time as a kid and drove my parents insane I'm pretty sure. Silly connection to make but anyway I always think it's hilarious. Also holy crap The Banner Saga is incredibly gorgeous, hadn't seen any artwork for it until listening to this.
  6. The Idle Thumbs 10th Anniversary Committee

Which of the rest of the drawings are you doing? Have we decided?
  7. The Idle Thumbs 10th Anniversary Committee

I wish I had half the talent you guys do to contribute to this in some way. You guys are amazing.
  8. Books, books, books...

I just finished A Confederacy of Dunces. What an absolutely hysterical book. One of the few things I've read that I was embarrassed to read in public, as I would just burst out laughing after some scenes. A joy to read.
  9. Your Favourite Book This Year (2013)

If I were to pair down the books I read last year to the two ones that stuck with me the most, they'd have to be. Infinite Jest: I don't have much to say about this book that hasn't already been talked about in these forums. I read it for a class I was in last year, and feel like I didn't do the book justice by having to finish it in about a month. I'd like to go back and read it again at my own pace eventually, and give myself more time to digest it. The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet: I adored this book. Unbelievably gorgeous read, about a time period and setting I didn't have a ton of familiarity of before reading it. Still 6 months after reading it so many of the scenes in the novel feel burned into me...the incredible opening scene of the miraculous birth, ...I can't gush about it enough.
  10. The Idle Thumbs 10th Anniversary Committee

I am so incredibly jealous of your handwriting ability, Subbes. Also..that Nick Breckon painting would be too good.
  11. Martin Luther King Jr Day

I don't really know if this is an appropriate place to do something like this, but I guess the mods can tell me off if it's not. Seeing as it's MLK day, I thought many of you guys would like a speech one of my professors gave a few years back at our school's symposium. http://connect4wu.blogspot.co.uk/2010/01/decision-to-care-bob-hansmans-mlk_19.html It's one of the best speeches I've heard on MLK, and certainly brings up a lot worth talking about.
  12. Martin Luther King Jr Day

Im bummed there's not a working link to the video because he is an incredible speaker. I think the text is pretty powerful on its own, but his voice brings an incredible emotion and passion that's impossible to convey in text.
  13. Feminism

Ugh. Usually nowadays my only source from video games comes from Idle Thumbs and I forget all this gross stuff exists.
  14. Life

I've just decided to, instead of stressing myself out over getting a internship after my junior year of college, to participate in a bike ride across the east coast in order to raise money for affordable housing, and help out in affordable housing builds across the East Coast! Check it out! I was hoping to do one of their cross country routes this summer, but my exams end after those rides start. This may not be the smartest career move for myself, but I'm feeling a lot of uncertainty for where I'm heading in my life career-wise, and wanted to try something that is more off the beaten path.
  15. Idle Thumbs 10th Anniversary

I haven't had as long a history of visiting Idle Thumbs as many of you have (only started listening to the casts 2 summers ago), and I'm not nearly as engaged in the forums as many of you, but I've loved listening to the thumbs over the past few year, and its cool to be a part of an online community that isn't super gross and sad to read through
  16. A single tear rolled down my cheek as I realized this.
  17. 3DS Friend Codes

Late to the party here but my friend code is 1736 1170 0735. I think I added all of you!
  18. I miss Steve on this cast. God you guys are hilarious
  19. Team Fortress 2 on the Xbox 360 had a similar small community where everyone knew each other. I remember all the guys I played with all lamented how we didn't have the updates the PC did when those started rolling out. It's weird that some of my fondest multiplayer gaming memories are from TF2 on the 360, but yeah
  20. God, the NBA 2K14 talk was hysterical. I looked like an idiot walking and trying to stifle my chortles.
  21. Gone Home from The Fullbright Company

Wow I really liked this game a lot. I don't have much to add to this discussion, just expressing my adoration for a wonderfully made thing. Also Chris's soundtrack was just marvelous.

  23. Upcoming books you want to read

I'm in Union Square in Somerville. I use my bike to get around, and have spent a lot of time in Davis square. Harvard, Central, Kendall, Porter, and Davis Square all take about the same amount of time to get to where I'm at.
  24. Upcoming books you want to read

Oh man! I am in Boston for the summer and I live right by that place! I hadn't heard of it until this post, but it sounds incredible...Thanks for writing about that!
