  1. Hipsters

I made it through like half of the first page before I lost my mind.
  2. Life

I grew up in Cincinnati as well, (in Terrace Park/Milford area if that means anything to you), and I completely agree with this. It wasn't until I got to college that I realized how close-minded my peers were, and the environment was that I was brought up in. It makes going home incredibly frustrating, as I can't stand hanging out with my former high school friends, complaining about "how damn sensitive everyone is". It makes me pretty upset that I used to agree with them.
  3. Morrowind

God this thread is really making me want to reinstall and play Morrowind. I played it originally when Oblivion came out because I didn't have a console at the time, and the PC my family had was in no way capable of playing it at that time. (Oblivion came out when I was in 7th grade, which probably makes me a baby around these parts). I hadn't played anything like it before and it blew my mind. May have to reinstall it with mods
  4. Amateur Game Making Night

Woah Blambo! That game does look super cool!
  5. Feminism

  6. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

My friend showed me this the other day and I haven't stopped playing it/watching this amazing music video.
  7. Books, books, books...

I just finished Stoner. Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone on here who talked so highly of that book. First time in a very long while that I've been moved to tears while reading a novel. It won't be leaving me anytime soon.
  8. Post your face!

Ehhh....sure I'll bite. This picture looks ridiculous, but I love it..I'm on the right.
  9. How hard was it not to name this episode "A Jacuzzi of My Own Excrements"?
  10. Books, books, books...

I just finished reading The Path to the Spider's Nest, by Italo Calvino, for a class I'm in about representations of history. The book showed World War II in Italy, set from the perspective of a young boy. I didn't think the book itself was particularly that interesting, and it didn't really speak to me in any meaningful way, and wouldn't be writing about it, if it wasn't for the Introduction Calvino wrote around 20ish years after the book was originally published. Calvino tries again and again, pretty unsuccessfully to explain why he wrote certain aspects of the book the way he did, which ends up making a really good case for the death of the author idea...as he doesn't really communicate any of it clearly.
  11. Tone Control 9: JONATHAN BLOW :o

Man! That part about how he came up with some of the puzzles and mechanics by programming the game itself blew my mind! I've had that experience before programming a thing/learning how some basic thing works/makes me think about what I can do with it mainly with regards to education but for whatever reason I had never thought about how that would work when making a game! It's the coolest/best feeling. Thanks Steve! (and Mr. Blow!)
  12. If you all haven't seen it already, this video puts a lot of the points being discussed quite well.
  13. Yeah I saw Cara Ellison say it was the closest we'll ever get to a Naked Gun game or something along those lines. I can imagine this makes some people really excited to play it and others really skeptical/turned off.
  14. Edit: I don't think my comment was appropriate for this episode thread, probably came off as directed at Nick, which I wasn't trying to do, and is a topic that has been discussed pretty extensively elsewhere on the forums.
  15. The Idle Thumbs 10th Anniversary Committee

Watching everyone in this community come together for this project, anticipating it's arrival, and seeing their reactions was such an amazing, awesome experience! Blambo, your post was really rad to see, and your artwork is just incredible!! (as was everyone's else's) I've never really participated in "internet communities" before this one, but it's so rad to be part of such a cool community!!! Anyway it's probably dumb for me to get all gushy over such a weird things, but that was seriously so awesome.
  16. Life

I'm studying abroad in the UK this semester, and next week I'm going to Scotland to do this for a week... https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10152549652785828.1073741830.381399730827&type=1 I'm not the best with heights....and I've never done much mountaineering before so I may be a little in over my head, but hey there's a first time for everything right? Nevertheless I'm incredibly excited
  17. Gone Home from The Fullbright Company

Woah that's awesome! Congrats to Steve and company on the well deserved success! Definitely one of my GOTYs.
  18. Amateur Game Making Night

The University I'm studying at is having a game development competition centered around safety in interactive medical devices.... A quick blurb on what they're expecting. I joined a team, some who have some small Unity experience. Hooray!
  19. Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

Late post: but my steam ID is gormanator....I don't have many spelunking friends and I'd like to populate my leaderboard!
  20. Books, books, books...

I just finished Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov and it has to be one of the most unnerving books I've ever read. His prose is unbelievably gorgeous, which contrasts sharply with the horrific actions of Humbert. It's unbelievable Nabokov is able to write a character like Humbert's as convincingly as he does. I know some critics refer to the book as "a story of a hyper civilized European colliding with the cheerful barbarism of postwar America"...as it says on the back of the copy I have, but reading it through this lens seems like a bit of a leap to me (I have trouble making connections like these, which may make me a literary baby). Parts of the novel were incredibly difficult to read, because of the events within, but I tore through the novel pretty quickly, mainly due to the incredible prose. I'm very glad I read it, and would recommend it highly.
  21. I was hoping for some Yoshi's Island talk! That game is fantastic! Something I thought of this episode sparked by the brief old Nintendo games conversation is that although I wasn't old enough at the time to appreciate the SNES era, I still played a lot of the games that were highly regarded in that era when they were rereleased on the GBA, when I was 9-12 years old. My first exposure to the mario series was through the Super Mario Advanced games, so for the longest time I thought that was the order the mario games were released in. Weird to think that someone's only exposure to Ocarina of Time is through the 3ds version and not realize the pedestal people put this game on. Anyway That was a bit rambley and didn't really have much to do with anything, but kind of weird realization I had this cast. Great to hear Breckon again! Edit: Wow that is a persuasive case to play Majora's Mask. The only Zelda game I've played to completion is A Link Between Worlds and that sounds amazing!!!!
  22. The threat of Big Dog

This is honestly terrifying. Militarization of police forces is such a horrifying idea. I can't believe this is actually being considered. http://stlouis.cbslocal.com/2013/10/14/st-louis-police-pushing-for-drone-surveillance-program/
  23. Feminism

Jesus Christ. Conversations like that one are why it's so difficult for me not to get incredibly angry when I'm talking to someone about it. I have friends that have reacted similarly saying "It's not so straightforward! It's complicated!" and I'm seriously asking myself why I still continue to be friends with them.
