  1. It's a bit of a tricky one. Basically there are a bunch of people who are primarily known for butting heads with GG on Twitter: Whenever someone points out that this might not actually be a helpful thing to do, since prolonging this conflict just legitimizes it and gives GG more attention, they tend to get RT'd and swarmed by that person's followers. I don't follow a lot of the specifics, but it's definitely an indication of the phenomena that make GG a problem being way more widespread than many of us would like to think. I'm not sure what I could link to though, since I get a lot of this information from inference and from asides on the twitters.

Ah ok, thanks for the summary.

  2. I also hate the skulls.

    How I did that mission:

After one bad attempt I restarted but knew the route, so I went straight there and parked my jeep in the road to stop the convoy and put C4 on the road with a spacing that I hoped wouldn't destroy the truck. So the skulls appear and plans go out the window, I managed to get one of the tanks with the C4 and extract the other. This leaves one piece of C4 and a load of skulls, I knew that even if they don't see you they still walk towards you (which is bullshit but I turned it to my advantage) so I put my remaining C4 in-between me and them and waited. When they were in prime position I fired a rocket into them setting off the C4 and killing at least one plus almost killing the others, then one more rocket and there's one left with a tiny amount of health so I finished it with an assault rifle.

The honey bee mission sorta suggests that normal non-guided rockets won't be very effective against the skulls but that's not really true.

  3. I don't remember much of the books but like others here I struggled and it stopped me reading any more of the series. So I may have to revisit it now that I know it's not just me not getting on with it and that the sequels are much better.

  4. I watched a video for the R&D Target Practice and still failed miserably after failing a number of times before that so haven't tried again since. I wish those missions were actually about target practice and not hide and seek.

One thing that can help is NVGs, they rather unrealistically highlight anything useful as well as thermals so show ladders, cracks, explosive barrels, blueprints, processed materials, etc plus targets in those missions.

  5. @ratamero

    Ah right :)

    @seamus

Yeah it's unfortunate, maybe it'll change in time but I don't think it'll be any time soon. As for a referendum I am certain that most Britons would not care as much as they did about Scotland :(

Edit: The sad face emoticon (do people still call them that?) on this forum is strangely ill-fitting...

  6. Empty by term time? January intake I guess, I always forget that's a thing :)

Also thanks, I don't need anything fancy, I've lived in some... interesting situations and made do before so I'm pretty flexible.

At the moment I'm looking on http://www.spareroom.co.uk if anyone knows any other good sites then please let me know.

    @seamus

It's being covered but isn't getting a lot of air time, which seems to sadly be the norm for NI in the media over here. It's a odd relationship.

    Responding to Brett:

I counter-sniped the skull snipers, and there were no zombies or mist for me on the way out. I didn't leave any dead bodies around either, so I guess I might not have noticed? That would have made the tank a lot easier to deal with.

Ah ok, so you took out the skulls before getting to the old dude, that makes sense, then they can't reanimate and you have a nice relaxed exit.

I tried out the D-Walker for funsies last night. Upgraded it a bunch beforehand so I wouldn't have a poor view of it...it's garbage. Like, what does it offer you over any other buddy? I'm sure once it's 100% upgraded it's great, but right now, it's a bunch of guns that are inaccurate from range, you're a giant target that anyone can see and...that's it. Oh yeah, it's slightly faster than sprinting, but not by much!

D-Dog is still the best, since Quiet is just too over powered, she just makes missions too easy. D-Dog has that nice balance between incredibly useful, but doesn't trivialise the combat or stealth. The horse is meh.

Apparently D-dog can eventually start fultoning people too.

I like the D-Walker, not enough to use over other buddies but I could see situations where it's useful. For instance if you wanted to take a sniper rifle and a rocket launcher and not worry about supply drops then you could equip the walker with a missile launcher. I've taken out a gunship with a walker before. My main issue with it is speed, it's not very fast compared to D-Horse or a Jeep.

I also like D-Horse because it's useful in a pinch, it's fast and comes to you so if you sneak through a base it can meet you on the other side. Also who doesn't love shooting while riding a horse?

  8. More mission 29 spoilers

Any vehicles will insta-rust, like the helicopter does. I was told that Walker does as well, but apparently that's wrong? I beat it with a rocket launcher and assault rifle, though I would have been screwed if quiet wasn't there since I ran out of ammo and it's not a situation that's very conducive to supply drops. Once I learned that I didn't actually have to stay next to Code Talker and protect him, it got a lot easier.

    And mission 28 spoilers

I made it in only tranqing 4 people, and really only did that so I could drag them off and interrogate them. The perennial problem in the game then struck me, when I had to try and get back out with all the guards that were there, plus additional patrols, plus carrying someone. The added time sensitivity to the situation made it even worse. It would have been a lot easier if I'd just shot my way in. I was on tilt just running out and getting shot repeatedly and I finally went full Rambo, called down two airstrikes and two aerial assaults, and killed everyone. I did learn that Pequot doesn't handle tanks very well, even with seeking missiles. The second time I called him in, he got insta-killed the moment he came in, before he could even lock missiles, by a single tank shell.

    Mission 28/29

I think the walker will insta-rust but it's only in the clouds they create so it's not too hard to avoid them since it's reasonably manoeuvrable, unlike say a tank :)

I killed everyone on the way in and it seems they were all re-animated so it's just as hard either way. Quiet was invaluable for taking out the zombie dudes, I don't think them seeing you counts as an alert so I don't think I got any in that mission, I was just happy to avoid the skull snipers.

  9. I'm going to be starting a new job next month in Leamington Spa and need somewhere to live, there's a three month probation period though and while I very much doubt I'd be let go at the end of it, I can't really commit to longer. Which reduces my options a tad, any ideas?

  10. I think the enemies do change up in more than just gear although the difference is subtle. For instance I've noticed more are taking wide arcs to investigate corners and avoid being easily grabbed.

    Regarding Mission 29:

I failed that at least 3 times and found it rather frustrating because in classic Japanese design is very trial and error. You have massive chunks of something thrown at you (maybe reflex on those would have improved it) and dudes just jumping you left, right and centre, it's nasty. So I took to the net and saw that others had trouble, the advice given was take Quiet and hide, letting her deal with them or take the Walker. Given the bug I chose Walker and after another failure I managed it with relative ease and got S rank. Not a mission I'll be returning to any time soon.

Also for anyone further than Mission 29:

If you find the concept of the disease interesting, check out a film called Pontypool, I wonder if Kojima saw it.

  11. Windows 10 finally decided I was allowed to try again yesterday and it worked this time, I guess either my old HDD or Windows install were too old and messed up before.
