  1. Badfinger

Thrudds trading website is really good for planning trading routes - I have used it a lot and, especially for the more highly populated core systems it's kept very much up to date.

As for tips - if you want to get rich quick then trading in rares is pretty much the only way to do that at the start (unless you buy a Viper or Eagle and go bounty hunting in Resource Extraction Sites).

My advice is to head to Diso, fill up on the corn and find another cluster of rare selling systems about 130Ly away. It's a bit boring but it'll get you money. I'd suggest upgrading to a cobra as quick as you can too. It holds its own in a fight and can carry more that it's fair share of cargo.

  2. I remember the absolute euphoria in this country when Tony Blair and the Labour Party annilated the corrupt bloated corpse of a Conservative party back in 1997

I think it speak volumes that the reaction to today's result is general disbelief and 'how the fuck did that happen?!?'

On the bright side we can look forward to feel that euphoria again in 5 years time. Just a shame by that point we'll have left the EU and We'll need passports to get into Scotland.

  3. I finished the game late last week. Although it feels a little like they were ready for the game to be done by the time I was that far in I thought the main plot was well thought through and it had a satisfying ending (although I did think it could have been slightly more challenging?)

Loved it overall. Hopefully the expansions won't be too long in arriving for another play through.

  4. How on earth are you managing to do no damage?! I'm not criticising I'm genuinely interested! What level are you playing on and what level are your characters?

That fight is a tough one mind, it's sort of a boss battle. Might be better to leave and go back once you are a bit stronger?

I'm playing on normal and although I don't survive every encounter, i don't think I've ever been in a situation where I couldn't at least stand my ground for a couple of minutes.

Kana's arquebus at least should be punching holes in people. What weapon are you using?

  5. Hmmmm. Do you have Edur's modal defence skill active? That seems to help enormously I think. The game to me is a bit unbalanced at the start - combat is definitely tailored towards having a group of at least 4. The extra a ranger companion gives you at the start is really useful. Still I remember the dungeon in Gilded Vale being really really hard. Mind you it doesn't help that some of the creature down there can bypass your defences....

I find the combat fascinating to be honest, although sometimes very confusing. First time I shook up my party and added a Druid and a cipher I spent my first battle 20 minutes on hold while I went through each of this spells and abilities before I could even begin to work out what was useful and what wasn't for a given situation.

Exploring the Endless Paths is a good way to learn how to scout, position and fight properly if you haven't already been down there. You'll learn quickly when you are outgunned, and also that you need to set up custom formations.

  6. Erm. Er. Well, you need to understand how each class works I think. Edur can easily engage and survive multiple enemies at one time. He's your tank, or meat shield as I call him. He goes at the front on his own to tie everyone up. Kana can help, he's fairly durable with a two hand weapon and can deal a bit of damage. Durance, if you have him has enough spells to keep everyone on their feet and enable them to hit more frequently, harder.

Aloth goes to the back alongside your ranger if you have one. Or cipher. Druids can stand just behind Edur. He's a glass cannon so treat him as such. Pound the field of combat with your spells and use your ranger to take any spellcasters. Having the ranger animal companion attack spell casters your ranger is attacking is a very good way of putting them out of commission very quickly.

  7. I agree about the path finding. Last night Kana ran around the entire combat field just to go about 1 and a half steps to his right to line up a shot.

Over all though I quite like the combat. Had a stinker of an encounter last night though against teleporting enemies. Keeping Aloth upright was a major chore. It almost breaks the game that.

  8. I wouldn't go that far. Elemental was just broken and completely unfinished. BE isn't broken it's just incredibly dull and lifeless compared to all the other civ games. It's good to see that that are trying to sort it out (you tend to expect that from Firaxis) and as patches rather than DLC. If you look at the Arstechnica steam reviews though BE is one of the most purchased and most played games of last year. I don't think it did that badly.

  9. It's a fun read that article. There's something a little less confrontational in The Guardian (UK National Newspaper) but Molyneux basically says the same thing 'I meant what I said at the time' without giving any explanation as to why he didn't deliver on the kickstarted promises or why he thinks it's acceptable to let kickstarted backers down so badly.

To me he comes across as someone who's over exuberance about his own games and his own abilities to deliver on them leaving him Coming up short time and time again. He really should just stick to designing games and leaving the running of companies (and handling of PR) to people much much at it than he is. It's just a highly visible tale of incompetence at the end of the day but he can't say it hasn't been coming.

  10. Finished the game last night, I have to say I found the ending a little underwhelming to put it mildly. A good game but not a great one I think, there were (as has been mentioned before) far far to many middling side quests and fetch quests, which is a shame and detracted from area, some of which were excellent (the hissing wastes and Empris de Lion were both really good).

Combat would have been a great deal more enjoyable if it had a tactical camera that actually worked.

I'll go back and replay it to be sure, but the crippling performance issues after the second patch meant those final few stages were a complete slog at times. I think I'll wait until

They fix that (if ever) and move on to Divinity Original sin before Pillars of Eternity sees the light of day.

  11. I agree about the comments on the tactical view, if that worked properly I'd bother to learn the synergies between abilities for each class and think a lot more about combat. But because I've explored a fair bit (while leaving a few areas for another play through at some point) I'm massively

Over powered for anything other than a Dragon or the occasional spider swarm. A proper camera that zooms out and access to all abilities would go a long long way to making this a much much better game.

Not sure how much longer there is to go in the main quest - I think I'm fairly near the end, i should Probably get on and finish it before Pillars of Eternity come out and The Witcher 3 is released. I did go to the forbidden oasis last night and learnt what all those annoying shard fetch quests are for. Plus possibly learnt just who one of the companions is.

  12. Look up 'Elemental game' on google and have fun. It's a bit harsh on Stardock, they did a hell

Of a lot to fix the problems with that game and, eventually got to something pretty good with Fallen Enchantress. Plus all the Elemental pre-orders got that game free. More than I think a lot of other companies would of done.

And the Galactic Civilisations series is one of the best 4x games ever released.

  13. Endless Space is much better with the expansions than without. As a game it's very good without quite reaching the sum of its parts. If you want MOO2 without the complexity of Distant worlds though - well that's the holy grail and I think you'll struggle to find it. I really like Gal Civ II. It's still got One of the best AIs I've ever come across and with th expansions it's one of the best space game there is.

I would suggest that you try Sins of a Solar Empire. That is a truly excellent game, even though it plays as a 4x RTS rather than a 4x TBS. I've not played the Rebellion stand alone expansion, but the original game with its DLC/Expansions should definitely be on your must buy list.

  14. I know but in keeping with the game it feels like I should be in an Asp :) and when I say exploring I really mean exploring - out to the galactic rim if I can (although possibly not via the core)

And although I know it's incredibly churlish of me, I'm really disappointed with the lack of accretion disks around the black holes :(
