  1. In two weeks I'll do a course in the Red Cross and then I'll see if I can do some voluntary work for them? I just want to stay active in some way or other...

They say they need people to teach the elderly how to use a computer, something I think I can do?:erm:

Do it. Do both things. Other things also. Do everything.

  2. Since the Wire was brought up again recently, has anyone watched David Simon's new show, Treme?

I'm curious about it primarily because of that connection but I don't know if I want to jump right in based solely on his involvement, so I'd love to hear opinions.

It's certainly very different. Less hectic, easier to get into. Less nerve-wracking on the whole. Super incredible music. Also John Goodman is in it!

  3. Just finished this. What a fantastic game, so ahead of its time. For anyone who haven't played this yet, you really should do so now, if only to experience the first hour or so.

Ok, gonna do this. I've been meaning to. Kingz got me as far as the title screen one time, I don't remember why I never got past that. I hope it wasn't computer limitations, 'cause I still have the same computer.

  4. He's not getting money because he was self-employed as an independent contractor, who was at the time contracted out to his parents. Now he is no longer working for his parents but he's technically still an independent contractor. This is why he's not getting unemployment benefits.

Tanu, I know it's not easy or even economically possible at the moment and I know that Spain's unemployment for young people is currently at like 120% but just keep looking as hard as you can for any way to get out of there. Your parents come off as a toxic influence.

Your sister is probably just telling you what she told herself in order to deal with her own problems. Not everyone works the same way and she is not making an effort to see things your way so don't even worry about it. Just keep working on getting out of there, since your parents seem to be the source of all your stress.

To all the people thinking he's insane or that his parents are just trying to help him out into the world by forcing him to fly like a baby bird, this may be true if Tanu had the same background as you but Spanish society, especially working-class, is quite different. His parents most probably really do just want to keep him there as cheap/free labor because that's what your children are for. To continue the family business.

  5. Heh, yeah. I'm sure it can't have just been that though.

I donno, the more you reveal about it the more it seems like she just has this irrational phobia of younger guys. It's like she was saying HAHA OH GOD I'M SO GLAD YOU'RE NOT SOMETHING HORRIBLE, LIKE YOUNG and you were smiling awkwardly and one day finally saying "well, aaactually..."

What I'm saying is, none of this is your fault. She has a preference, and she is acting accordingly. It's a weird dumb preference, like not being attracted to people shorter than you or hairier than you or whatever, that she may or may not grow out of one day. I have a feeling that you telling her sooner would only have the different effect of her refusing to talk to you sooner. So don't beat yourself up about it, and go find a girl that doesn't have funny hangups about slight age differences.

  6. I feel like I'm the lead character in one of those movies:

"I keep thinking about what I could've done differently."

"If only I could go back and..."

    ...be born three years earlier?

  7. Turns out that my problem was hiding the fact that I'm younger than her. She now won't talk to me at all. This makes me horrendously sad.

I have to agree with Thunderpeel here, that is a silly reason not to consider someone to be in your dating pool. But hey, everybody has their dealbreakers, and if that's hers, then oh well.

Telling her your real age later or right away or never would not have made any difference, if that makes you feel better.

  8. Is it the prospect of reviving the thread, or the stuff that's already here what is terrifying to you, Sal?

After getting in a screaming argument in Serbia (not with Kingzjester, he is my fave) I decided to take a long vacation from arguments, especially internet ones. This thread makes me tense. There's a lot of good things in it and it is a good thing to talk about but goodness gracious.

Anyway hey I have another link to share! It's about manly men.

    edit: What is RPS?

  9. On a scale of 1 to Libya, how fucked up is your country of birth right now?

    If Libya's a 10 mine is at about 8!

Not that this has anything to do with anything. I just love being sad about things
