  1. I thought the game was flawed in a lot of important ways, but I do agree that it's something else. I didn't like it as much as you did, but I'd much rather take a flawed labour of love over polished but sterile work any day.

Just out of curiosity, what were your qualms with it?

I pretty much agree with all of your points of approval. I'm probably tainted by all of the good I experienced in the game, but I just don't have much to say bad about it at all.

I'm really just glad someone else appreciated the weird ass RTS stuff in Brutal Legend. I wrote some long ass post in the game's thread that I won't go over again, but basically I imagine it's hard for everyone to appreciate it without getting over the steep learning curve and even that, there's no one to play online with.

I really didn't notice much of a curve. The first battle is basically hand-fed to you. I suppose if someone didn't pay attention and isn't familiar with RTS/Tower Defense mechanics, then It could prove a bit hard to pick up. Online play is freaking awesome too! I hadn't messed with it till after I'd finished. It is indeed hard to find a games though. Maybe some thumbs would be interested in some matches?

  2. Just finished watching Ink

Strangely decent Fantasy/Sci Fi-ish flick I watched on netflix. It's a pretty hard movie to describe without giving away some of story. That said, It comes complete with cute badass fighting chicks, a dream realm, a creature with an obscenely huge nose, and dudes quest to not completely lose himself in his materialistic and pride-driven world.

If you're bored and want a pretty decent weird movie to watch i'd  it.

  3. Brutal Legend

    The Good:

(skip this if you hate lame fanboy praise ridden reviews)

This game is just stupid fun. Hilariously awesome fun. I barely even remember it coming out for some reason, but it took the " Peeling out on some dudes face " Thumbs story for me to take an interest. The game starts with you taking the role of Eddie Riggs, a Roadie for some lame emo band. Some accident happens and then poof, bang, boom, you're back in medieval brutal metal times. Complete with multiple badass dudes trying to kick your ass, amazingly beautiful open world scenery, hilariously voiced story dialog, an awesomely metal soundtrack, and an extremely fun and brutal battle system. This game was everything I could hope for in a game.

    The Surprises:

The battle system in this game was a huge surprise. Having really just picked the game up on a whim, I pretty much expected an experience similar to that of Dante's Inferno. I had no idea this game mixed RTS styled tower defense and close up hack and slash action. Battles consist of you basically taking command of an army of brutal rockers that you can build, upgrade, buff, direct, and fight alongside. The goal is to annihilate the opposing forces stage before they destroy yours. Extremely fun and different.

Another unexpected was the stunningly beautiful open world landscapes. As stated before, I'd started this game expecting something pretty subpar (with no basis for this I might add, I'd known very little about the game). So being thrown into a world chock full of things like giant stonehenge-ish swords stuck into a beautifully lush meadow was pretty refreshing. There were points in this game where I just drove my badass hot rod around and looked at things. Awesomely beautiful things.

    The Meh:

I have little to complain about. Hodrod controls were a little difficult at times, and the escort missions tended to be a little annoying because the enemies were a little hard to spot. That pretty much it.

  4. They are indeed different, but I honestly wouldn't warrant them worthy of any extra playtime. While I did spend the time to at least find 4 of the endings, I found them rather boring, confusing, and unfinished. The stories left little in the way of anything but a feeling of regret for spending the time to find them. If you want a fully fleshed out 3rd person narrative story, go watch Stranger Than Fiction. If you need to tickle the interactive aspect of it, open up the source SDK and walk around an empty map while watching.

  5. I've got an interest! I only suffer from an extreme lack of know-how. I tried going back through the thread, but it was a bit confusing where/what game you guys have started.

Can you share some links and maybe basic info for newb?

  6. Bastion

Thoroughly enjoyed this game from beginning to " end ". I quote end because I feel like after completing it the first time, I will be going back with the extra mode unlocked and play through again.

The art in this game is stunning. It's exactly my favorite style of pastel coloring, cartoon-ish characters design, and absolutely beautiful landscapes. The music is just as amazing. Gameplay is an action packed blast. Tons of weapons, various customization, and action packed button mashing. Although I'm sure I'm probably the only one, the art and combat style strangely reminded me of one of my favorite action RPG's, Star Ocean: The 2nd Story.

A couple of things did bother me a bit, although not to detract from the awesomeness of the game. The story was great, but seemed a bit hard, for me at least, to follow at points. I feel like there are parts I completely missed for various reasons. The story came mostly in the form of narrative blurbs (Best Narrator) that were sometimes packed into the middle of intense action sequences. It's probably just my extreme baby form of game playing, but when I'm mashing buttons to stay alive I tend to block out narrative storytelling in favor of staying alive. Like I said, probably just me. I also found a few of the proving grounds (weapon training areas) to range from extremely easy to utterly impossible. I'm all for a challenge, but I'm pretty sure I spent upwards of 3 hours on mastering the Fang Repeater, and that seemed like a bit much. I suppose I could have just skipped this, as I did the other trainings that I found aggravating. I also wish the

hop scotch ability would have come a bit earlier in the game. Jumping == fun!

Despite a couple annoyances, this game is a must play if you like Action Rpg's,

awesome art, amazing music, button mashing, and one of the most attentive narrations of a game I've ever experienced.

  7. Finished Cathrine against my will. :tmeh:

While the puzzles do get pretty tedious, the story and the end of the game did make up for it at least a little bit. Plus I like puzzles. It was definitely a different kind of game than I'm used to. I found that screwing around with the moral choices and going for the " absolute worst person in the world " approach made for a bit of added fun. Also, I'm pretty sure they cast the guy who did the voice for Legends of the Hidden Temple to narrate some of the game.

I did find it pretty absurd that in order to unlock 1v1 coliseum mode you needed to play through the entire game first (on normal at that). I can see myself going back and playing the 1v1 more than I can see myself picking up the story again though, so maybe it makes sense? Also, Sheep?

  8. Got to the final puzzle of the game and the story seems to have lost my interest. I think I've enjoyed the majority of the game up until the end. I know there are different ending and it could be the fact that

I decided to answer all dialog choices in a negative fashion

, but I doubt the ending can really pull it back for me.

That said, I enjoy puzzles. I enjoy all sorts of puzzles. I knew going into the game that I was playing a puzzle game with a story attached. It seems like there is a group of gamers/reviewers out there who were unaware of this. While a bit repetitive, I found the puzzles quite challenging and fun. If you like puzzles and want to experience puzzles then this game will probably get you puzzle'd. Do yourself a favor though and play on normal. Easy is for babies.
