  2. Funny enough, Jessica is a former colleague of mine. We were assistant editors at the movie trailer house I got my start in. Small world! No really, it’s a very small industry (though bigger than most people would think)

  4. Haven't watched it yet, but here's a vid of a trailer editor talking about styles of trailer:

  7. Free Music Resource - Over 1800 Tracks

Well, I’m up to 1,960 tracks…it’s hard to believe…I might actually reach 2,000 by the end of the year! Anyhow, I just wanted to send out a big THANK YOU to those of you who have showed your support for my work and my website…your contributions have allowed me to make my monthly payments on my synths. They are all top-of-the-line instruments and I think it’s reflected in the quality of the sound they put out. The whole point of my soundimage project was to make good-sounding music available to anyone regardless of their budget…and it’s definitely working thanks to you! I’ve been spending time learning my newest synth which will enable me to create tracks in genres that I haven’t done before. I’ll let you know as I open new pages on my site to release them. In the meantime, here’s what’s new this week: A brand new music track on my Action 3 page: FUNKY RUNNIN’ – (Looping) – Maybe for a funky endless runner game? https://soundimage.org/action-3/ Some cool electronic sound fx on my new SFX – Electronic page: ELECTRONIC STATIC and TELEPHONE STATIC – Perhaps for situations where communications have been knocked out. (They actually sound pretty cool.) https://soundimage.org/sfx-electronic/ On my SFX – Creepy page: EERIE INDUSTRIAL DRONE – (to add to my other creepy drones.) https://soundimage.org/sfx-creepy/ And on my SFX – Environments page: UNDERWATER RUMBLE – Maybe for deep sea environments? https://soundimage.org/sfx-environments/ Have a great week!

  12. Broken Lines - New 2019 Trailer

Cool, I look forward to it, probably on Project Scarlett now, given how little time there is now.

Thanks for the recommendations. I'm feeling a bit better after a few days. I thought about going to a therapist. A few years ago I actually did find one I liked, but they thought I had no reason to keep going and I only went once. But now it seems they have moved and I don't remember the name and didn't feel like searching for a new one again. So maybe I'll wait it out a bit and if it gets worse again I'll try going to another therapist.

Thanks! I rather like the interviews Ric does because then I get to just be a listener. The bumper bit is definitely stolen from Idle Thumbs and also the podcast Design Life, but yeah it's totally the same philosophy as the thumbstopper bits

It’s been getting very high early ratings, so I was excited. But when you say it’s like The Witch, it reduces my enthusiasm. I thought The Witch was below average, even though some parts of it were quite memorable.
  20. Void Eclipse

We (my brother and I) are a small indie studio (< 4 people) working on a new strategy game. We put our project, Void Eclipse, up on Kickstarter last week and I wanted to share it with this community. Void Eclipse is a blend of genres for fans of turn-based 4X empire building, story-driven single-player campaign, and card battling strategy. Players explore a universe of unique planets and star systems to discover the origin of the android protagonist, interacting with NPCs and saving an alien empire faced with a mysterious threat. Characters in Void Eclipse are represented in battle as 3D animated cards in tactical, turn-based combat. We take full advantage of the Unreal Engine to provide our impressive visuals and special effects. I'd be happy to answer questions folks might have about the game, so speak up! We recently did a short Q&A with eXplorminate too. Check out our Kickstarter and give us your feedback, we're planning to do a beta run next year and would love to have some strategy fans on board helping us.

I watched The Lighthouse a few nights back and I don't know why I did as I didn't really like the director's last movie The Witch. Like everything about his last movie there is nothing bad exactly about it, it just lacks any kind of verve or purpose. It is about two men in a lighthouse and the tension between them. Given the performances and cinematography that should have been enough, but just felt like an empty experience. It is unlikely I'll bother to watch another one of these, and depending on who you are you can take it as praise or criticism, it felt very Lynchian.

Also don't burn yourself out looking after/worrying about everyone else - you've got to look after yourself first. I know it can be hard to prioritise yourself over family and close friends when they're having a hard time, but it doesn't help anyone if you end up having a breakdown. If possible, might be helpful to see a mental health professional (a therapist or whatever) to help you work up some techniques to deal with the new stress factors in your life. You don't have to keep going forever, and if you don't like the first one you try you can keep trying different ones until you find a good fit.

A familliar thing to hear Erkki, unfortunately. It feels like the elasticity/capacity to deal with life's blows has been going out of things lately. Try to take some time off, you *really* don't want to get into burnout territory.
  24. Life

A thing happened recently that has me a little worried. I took a comedy writing class on a Sunday and it was kind of intensive and after the class I felt like my brain was really really tired while everything else seemed ok. And now this feeling has been coming back. I can function at work, at least most of the day, and I am working on a video project at my spare time, at the writing stage. So maybe it's too much? But it doesn't feel like too much - I'm only spending a couple of nights in the week on the video project, the rest of the time I'm just watching movies or something. There are also other things in my personal life, like a friend being depressed whom I've been hanging out with more, now. My sister is depressed and she's having some marriage problems while being a new mom. My mom is depressed because of the sister situation, and they don't get a long but she has to babysit a lot after my sister went back to part-time work. And now my grandma fell and is in the hospital for at least a month, and I really don't like his son, my uncle, who has somehow become a supporter of the local far right party. I felt fine just a month ago, but now it feels like all of this is a bit much to deal with, and I'm worried that I'm not going to be able to perform as well at work as I need to, or that I'm going to have to slow things down with my filmmaking hobby, which I have actually wanted to spend more and more time on.

Great ep! Was fun to get an interview as well. Also, I finally realised that the reason you have a bumper at the start of the show is to mimic YouTube trailers - very clever!
