Why the crap are these things being said by cartoon characters? It's like they stuck a random forum or blog post in speech bubbles.
Whatever.

Isn't it supposed to be a graphical representation idealizing the unique essence of the atmosphere of blogs and fanboy forums?
Or something?!

Christ, will one of you lazy SOBs resize the "Wii" logo already? We all know that that's going to be up on the main page for at least a year with the current news update rate, so please just clip the damn edges so the text stops sneaking off the edge of the column. It's not like everyone here doesn't have OCD (like me ).
Back on topic: the more I think about it, the more I realize just how awkward the name "Wii" is going to be to use in a normal English sentence. I kind of like the originality of that. Not only does it look and sound different from the competition, it functions differently as well. That might be a bad thing, but I have to give Nintendo lots of point for trying to be unique.

Hey, in some cases, like they say, 'no news is good news.' ...And, that doesn't even make sense, yet it still comes across as an insult.
I see you've since posted some news, but you're missing the point--obsessive compulsives like me don't care how infrequently the news is updated, just that the news update fits into the allotted column space. So...you plainly have access to the PHP news server thingy, you clearly have access to whatever image upload plug-in that the news server uses, and I bet you've got a pirated copy of Photoshop on your drive, so....
I'm just kidding around. Please don't hit me with a hammer emoticon.

Don't listen to the fans.
This Time article starts revealing the dominant ideologies that have been shaping nintendos marketing decisions::
http://www.time.com/time/magazine/ar...191861,00.html
They are trying to get at the largely untapped market of non-gamers, specifically female gamers.
Iwata is cynical about the game market today: ie if Tetris were pitched today, it would only be released if it were supercharged with 3D graphics, extra game modes - which would probably ruin it.
They believe that the ipod lesson of design > specs also applies to the game console market.
And they believe the notion that if you listen only to your customers, you miss out on the possibilities that your customers don't ever consider.
Interestingly, on the latter point, Marek indenpendently came to the same conclusion last year:
Don't listen to the fans
..and copped abuse as a result. Some other parallels too, interesting to re-read.

It must because I'm so unpassionnate about consoles but I think that the name won't have any impact on the sales or the way the console will be seen. What will matter is the price and the hardware... and maybe - only maybe - the games.
For christ sake you have consoles named playstation, XBox and GameBoy which sold and are still selling like crazy. Sure, Wii is't a glorious name and Revolution was better but hey, it does get some attention.. and that's the whole point, isn't it?

Now that I finally had the chance to really read this thread through, this must be one of the craziest threads ever. I know that I loved the Revo name, and first really wondered about the decision to use Wii as the final name, but after a while of thinking about it, the name has grown on me, just like Marek said a lot earlier.
I felt that this is something so crazy that only Nintendo can come up with a name like that, I like it.
