Novelist Iain Banks forgets to work, misses deadline, blames Civilization.
British newspaper The Independent is reporting that notoriously grim Fiction / Science Fiction novelist Iain Banks has missed a writing deadline for the first time because of video game addiction.
Banks regularly works gaming into his Sci/Fi novels, even titling one " The Player of Games". The award-winning Novelist also famously brags that he knocks out a book in a few months and spends the rest of the year charging about Scotland in a Ferrari, feeling slightly guilty about not doing anything worthwhile. This year was different however. Banks’ latest book which was due in time for Christmas, will be delayed until some time next year because Banks, like many before him, fell prey to the evil of Sid Meier.
"It's all because I became a serial addict of the computer game 'Civilisation' [sic]” Said Banks, “I played it for three months and then realised I hadn't done any work. In the end, I had to delete all the saved files and smash the CD. It is very unprofessional of me. I had to ask for an extension for the first time, which made me feel just like I was a student again."
So there we have it, it’s all Firaxis’ fault that we won’t be getting a new Banks book this Xmas, and when we finally do get it, it will be heavily focused on granaries, the cure for cancer and winning the space race. Fuck you Sid Meier.
Digg this story.

Hahahaha, brilliant. I keep installing and then deleting Counter-Strike in exactly the same manner. Luckily Steam means I'm not throwing away £20 each time I metaphorically smash the CD.

I don't think they even need Stephen Hawking for that one.

Damn straight.
I mean, they're all brilliant, and I know I'm kinda biased (although technically I did do PR for Civ 3), but the game is so much better without corruption or pollution.
