Oh dear God, no - Uwe Boll strikes again?
Uwe Boll, destroyer of all he surveys, has made a career producing what he calls ‘movies’ each one based on a different video game, which some people claim is just a way of exploiting some weird German tax loophole and make bajillions of dollars.
His previous projects included House of the Dead and whilst Far Cry and Postal (Boll's favorite game of all time) have already been confirmed as coming soon, in a recent interview he claims to have also set his sights on none other than Hideo Kojima's widely acclaimed Metal Gear Solid series, a game one would hope could remain safe from his evil clutches.
Dr. Boll: Now people are coming to me with Metal Gear Solid. They wrote a script, and Konami basically paid these people to write it. And I hope that Metal Gear Solid will be working.
Hunter Daniels: Do you want to do make Metal Gear Solid?
Dr. Boll: Yeah, absolutely. And especially with the Doom situation. I think we could do it a lot better ... it's one of the top five of all time.
For Boll, surpassing the soaring cinematic heights of the Doom film would be a monumental achievement. That said, please keep your filthy paws off of MGS, Uwe. Postal is one thing, but please, for the love of common decency, leave our poor Snake alone.

It seems insane that Kojima would want Uwe to direct a movie based on his games, the playing of which will show you that Kojima’s own talents clearly lie in directing cut-scenes rather than designing gameplay.

I love this bit.
Paying people to write scripts? Apparently not something Boll has ever heard of, which might explain the reception his work gets.
In fact, I'm sure that I've just now pinpointed the root of his problems. Well, that and fetal alchohol syndrome. And some form of extreme mental retardation.

Yes, I'm sure Kojima wouldn't approve, especially of someone like the dear doctor.

I don't really see the problem, since all movies based on games suck no matter who makes them...

That's because people like Uwe Boll make them.

Why not just put Kojima himself in the director's chair? Too busy with MGS4? I could stand to wait another few months while he does the shooting at any rate.

Because Kojima is not a film director? Giving it to someone even less experienced than Uwe Boll would be like getting Sakaguchi to direct a movie... oh wait.
Speaking of which, has anyone seen Bloodrayne? It's supposed to coming out now (or already is, fuck if I know, I have the lucky distinction of never seeing a Boll film) http://www.metacritic.com/film/titles/bloodrayne

You'd never know. It could be much better, than again, much worse is hardly possible.

I don't know if I could sit through a 10-hour movie! Kojima has some great ideas but damn does the man need a decent editor.

It's official, somewhat at least.
BloodRayne entered the IMDb ranking at place #37, just above\below AitD (#36).
PS, it's the bottom 100

I have to rent at least one of these sooner or later. Are they laughable bad or just beyond ANY redeeming qualities?

If only. They are just very disappointing, specially if you know the game.

I had heard of Boll before he made his adaptation of House of the dead. Funny, because even before then he made that flick he was not held in high regard by many. I thought for sure after his latest two latest massacres Alone in the Dark and Blood Rayne would be his undoing and he would then surely be ousted from the industry.
The thing is that the game industry wants him, He has sizable amount of influence in this market and that’s due mainly to his investors. He has investors in Europe, primarily in Germany that see a lot of potential money in the realm of games made to film. And, where there are investors there is $$$. I was surprised to see how supportive the folks at Running with Scissors were when they were approached with the fact that Boll was going to direct their game Postal into a movie. Okay, actually I was quite shocked knowing how outspoken they are.
The other big argument that comes from many of his supporters, is that he is a really cool guy, who understands and appreciates the complexities of the gaming and film industry, and does not act like have the restrictive abrasive qualities of other movie directors/producers/writers. Maybe these folks don’t care about the unsavory trail that this fellow is leaving behind, but I do. The man is director, although he is not a good one. The man is a producer, but be it known that money can let you do many things. The man is a writer, however, a monkey can be taught to write. I cannot comment for the production crew he uses, some do good work and have potential, Boll however never ceases to amaze me. I don’t care how nice or cool the guys is, the fact remains, his movies splatter the gamming industry’s faces with embarrassment. The negative responses outweigh the positive and amazingly enough, he trucks on, off to collect the soul of another franchise.
I have heard of the Metal Gear rumor before as well, and I have also heard that Hideo Kijima is more likely to submit himself to Seppuku before that happens. Oh the pain…and Metal Gear is the intellectual property of Konami. I hope someone is fighting this with tooth and nail. The forecast is getting dark and that really bothers me, especially knowing that Hideo would make a better movie even if he made the film completely using one of the MG engines. Or better yet, using a cheapo video camera and Playdough.

I love bad movies. And I still hate Uwe Boll's movies.
